He was the neighborhood watch coordinator, not a security guard - had to look that up as well.

He did his job by calling in the suspicious activity. He should not have followed the guy.

It has always been my belief that hate crime charges are nothing but political BS. If someone kills someone else, the victim is dead regardless of the perpetrator's motivation. I'm not sure why some crimes are more severe than others simply based on motivation.

I mean, I think we have plenty of evidence historically that crimes based on race do exist - see the KKK, or the attack on the Jewish synagogue a few years back…

idk that I would disagree that the threshold to prove something is a hate crime and should rise above the standard of a normal crime could/should be higher tho.
