This loss is on Fran...

Iowa never had an answer all game for Eady. That's the story.

No Eddey was only 9/14 from field. The story was 18 rebounds for Eddey and 2 for Iowa's starting PF Krikke.

I don't thnk Iowa wins, but wtf was the lineup Bowen and Harding playing same time....would be interesting to see the point delta for that rotation.

And playing that duo for almost 5 minutes

I think Iowa was up 2 when they came in. Down 13 before they returned. Minus 15.

That's pretty bad coaching----lineup doesn't work and he stuck with it.

Looking at the boxscore, pretty even shooting percentages. Big difference was 50-23 rebounding margin and Purdue had more FTs...that is mostly Eddey superiority but Fran also didn't maximize the post defense. Putting Freeman on eddey to start the game was mistake...Eddey goingto draw 10+ fouls, you can't let Freeman suck up a bunch of fouls guarding Eddey without help and end up spending much of the game on the bench. Free

Coach, who do you put on Edey then?

Rebounds = No answer for Eddey

Bingo.

I didn't watch the game, but from the previous matchups and watching PU games - that is why Edey is "so good" and "unstoppable".

Its ****ing hard to defend a guy - without fouling - who just about knocks the top of his head on the underneath portion of the rim without even going up on his tip-toes, let alone jumping.

Edey will still have his height in the NBA, but that'll be his only "weapon" once he gets there.

I thought the defense in the 2nd part of the first half was atrocious. And too many stupid turnovers. Other than that we played them even. Eddy is frustrating because they are giving him every call, even with no contact. Purdue won’t get those calls in the NCAAs.

Good news, we likely never play Edey again. I’m sure Freeman is ok with that.

Perkins was outstanding and Dix came on the 2nd half. We need for Dix to look for his shot more.

Iowa doubled Edey and tried Brauns on him. Very little was working to stop Edey.

There’s no easy answer here and I’m sure complaints would be made regardless whatever happened.

I’m not sure any team is beating Purdue if they only make 5 or less 3 pointers. Unless eddy gets in foul trouble.

Dix needed more plays drawn up for him beyond just looks from motion. No way you win against Purdue with 2nd most efficient 3 point shooter only take one. He’s been key in the last 3 wins.

Gotta play with the guys you brought to the game. I thought we played them pretty tough, just couldn't rebound enough. If we play like that, minus the big rebounding problem, we win a lot of those games. Perkin's energy was terrific and we got almost nothing from Krikke or Owen. Dembele needs to be down low and work on his hands, other than that I liked what I saw from him. Hope LD's ankle is ok, glad it wasn't a knee.

I can assure having watched the game, that Iowa doubled Edey and tried Brauns on him. Very little was working to stop Edey.
I don't doubt it.

Again, when you have an at least a 6+" height advantage over even the tallest player on the opposing team, you are going to be very hard to defend and out rebound - without fouling.

Hell, being that tall, most of the time he doesn't have to leave his feet to lean forward slightly to reach over any opposing player who isn't a taller forward or center to grab a rebound before the opponent can jump for it.

Every time edey has to switch take it right at him on offense. He also was super aggressive on the seals. Tell your players not to bang back and to fall backwards. Easy offensive foul.

Edey has the height, but he is just that much physically stronger than anyone Iowa could throw at him. Edey is good about establishing position and when he didn’t get it right away, he used his strength to get position.

They said he was something like the 400th ranked recruit in his class. Anyone 7’4” should be a top 100 in my book. Automatic scholarship offer. But credit to him, he’s really improved his skills.

So Iowa basically is playing without two scholarship players right now… Why the hell didn’t he close on a few transfer bigs to give this team some help down low! Fran will continue to keep this program at mediocrity.

With all that NIL money coming the basketball way, you’d think Iowa could just name their transfers. Dip shit post

Why take away playing time from PMac?? Why not bring in PMac’s high school teammate big man who averaged 7 points and 5 rebounds a game at Belmont??
Are we expecting to Fran all of a sudden put the best interests of the program above everything else?

This loss was not on Fran. I agree, he should've called a timeout during the big run, but that didn't cost them the game. Iowa actually battled back and made it a game at the end. Iowa had 2 wide open looks that didn't fall late in the game that would've made it a one possession game. Sometimes, the other team makes plays and wins. If anything, some credit goes to Fran for helping keep Iowa in the game after they were ROCKED the last time they played Purdue.

Iowa State has big time NIL for there basketball team! Take off the blinders dude! You get the right coach the players will come. He couldn’t land dudes before NIL.

Agreed. I thought we played much better than the last time we played them. Teams that beat Purdue have had great shooting nights, and we didn't have that today. The good news is that we won't play a better team for while.

Not following your logic. We lost by 19 on the road and lost by 14 at home... that's an improvement? Fran let the game get out of hand today. Very small chance of coming back against a player like Edey.

I find it humorous fran plays a big lineup and we get doubled up on rebounds. Rebounding has ALWAYS been an issue with frans teams. Right up there with defense

Gotta call a timeout during that 14-0 run. What's the point of having assistant coaches when the HC never listens to them.
Not sure if loss cause purdue better team and played better but we could’ve made it much closer late in game.

However Fran and lack of calling timeouts something that deserves criticism as a coach. So many times end of half or game he lets his guys play it out without a to. Today he didn’t after made basket under 5sec. Against isu getting boat raced on the road and didn’t use one against in state rival during 1st half. 4 min mark 2x could’ve cut into 8 pt deficit and we missed our chances. 2nd time with under 4 after lot of up and down the court could’ve been a great chance to use one. Get freeman in. Instead dix missed a fadeaway short after sandfort came up short on a 3 previous possession. Obvious guys had tired legs hence going scoreless last 4 min of the game.

Coach, who do you put on Edey then?

Fran didn't lose the game but it probably is more winnable if he keeps our best player Freeman out of foul trouble. The lineup with Harding-Bowen also didn't work out and provided all the point differential as we went from a lead to deficity while they were on court.

Krikke had two rebounds and he was awful defending his own guy at PF.

Dimbele in post did pretty well on Eddey as well a Braun did good job. YOu play Dimbele with Freeman so Freeman isn't always Eddey primary post dfender. The guy you sit is Krikke.

When Edey is sitting out, play Freeman at center on defense and you rest Freeman some with Braun when Eddey is in.

Purdue was 30-67 and Iowa was 27-59. It wasn't shooting that beat Iowa, it was Iowa losiing 50-23 on the rebounding. Freeman is our best rebounder/best interior defender and he played 21 minutes. He only played 21 minutes because he spent too much time guarding Edey and got into foul trouble---that was predictable.
