This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

"Welcome to Lithuania! A new rotational force from the United States is deploying in Pabradė – artillerymen from the 2-82 FA Battalion & The Ghosts 2-7 CAV Battalion. We are grateful to US for uninterrupted troop rotations & ironclad commitment to our security."

"The head of the joint press center of the "South" Defense Forces, Natalya Gumenyuk, said that the invaders in the #Kherson region are withdrawing troops 15-20 km from the Dniper in order to protect themselves from shelling by the Armed Forces of #Ukraine."

That would be great. Just looking at that, that must be another 1,000 sq km they would be giving back.

Saw a later tweet that said total may be over 80 now with more coming from the Black Sea. Sounds like they are trying to overwhelm the defenses.

"Breaking: There is a mass launch of X-101 missiles in Ukraine with Tu-95 bombers from the Volgograd-Astrakhan region. More than 40 missiles so far."

Posting this in case the problem gets fixed. And to me, yes, Putin looks very nervous.

Milley should have known better. If Biden needs to replace him I hope he will.

"U.S. scrambles to reassure Ukraine after Milley comments on negotiations - POLITICO"

"The Biden administration is in damage control mode after a top U.S. general said a window for peace talks between Kyiv and Moscow could open this winter, with senior officials scrambling to assure Ukraine it wasn’t undercutting its goal of expelling the Russians.
Specifically, senior U.S. officials are telling their counterparts in Ukraine that the expected winter fighting pause doesn’t mean talks should happen imminently. Instead, they’re relaying that Washington will continue to support Kyiv’s militarily as it launches the next phase of advances on the battlefield, according to Ukrainian and U.S. officials familiar with the outreach.

The scramble follows comments last week by Gen. Mark Milley, the Joint Chiefs chair. The four-star general said during an appearance at the Economic Club of New York that a victory by Ukraine may not be achieved militarily, and that winter may provide an opportunity to begin negotiations with Russia.

The general has spoken regularly with his Ukrainian counterpart, Gen. Valeriy Zaluzhnyy, including on Monday, according to a U.S. official. During the discussion, Zaluzhnyy did not express any concern or mention Milley’s comments even once, the person said. The person, along with others interviewed for this story, spoke on condition of anonymity in order to discuss internal deliberations.
Still, the flurry of calls and meetings with Ukrainians underscores the degree to which the administration is concerned about presenting a unified front on Ukraine and potential peace talks. Any prolonged public split among top U.S. officials could threaten the already delicate relationship between Washington and Kyiv at a key moment in the war."

I would be looking to “lay waste” to a new section of the Crimean Bridge ASAP, and clearly convey the message that more to come until the Russian missile strikes on civilian infrastructure comes to a complete stop.

Putin seems to covet that bridge far more than the 800 Russian soldiers killed daily.

The bonkers thing is that Kiev has almost 3 million people - or at least it did pre-war. If Russia did this 100 times more, they would not even put a dent in the population actually fighting the war. It is just pure terrorism.

Or a counterstrike on the infrastructure on the dozens of the Russian cities within range, every time Russia attacks theirs.

That isn’t a bad idea…pre announce that is what is going to take place, and right before you launch each one, communicate that it is retaliation for the missile that just landed on “the playground in Kyiv” this morning. Tell them which civilian apartment you are going to hit and give warning to allow people out.

If we say we are going to hit a Russian apartment building, we can give them the courtesy of letting them know what floor, the unit#, and which kitchen cabinet our missile will strike. None of this “random” strike” crap from U.S. weapons.

Uh oh-Russians are on to our plan for counter strikes on their infrastructure.

"Russia’s Security Council Secretary calls to step up air defense, protect critical infrastructure. Nikolai Patrushev said Russia must bolster its air defense systems to protect critical infrastructure, Russian state-controlled media RIA Novosti said on Nov. 15."

Looks like enough missiles got through to cause major problems.

Ukraine says Russia used 100 missiles today This is terrorism meant to break the spirit of civilians by destroying access to electricity, water and heat This isn’t war At this point, any objection to supplying Ukraine with air defenses is not only immoral, it’s disgusting

Yes it is.
Just part of why war is terrible and not simply ‘diplomacy by other means’.

This is from Sherman’s letter, before burning most of Atlanta to the ground:

The use of Atlanta for warlike purposes is inconsistent with its character as a home for families. There will be no manufactures, commerce, or agriculture here, for the maintenance of families, and sooner or later want will compel the inhabitants to go. Why not go now, when all the arrangements are completed for the transfer, instead of waiting till the plunging shot of contending armies will renew the scenes of the past month? Of course, I do not apprehend any such thing at this moment, but you do not suppose this army will be here until the war is over. I cannot discuss this subject with you fairly, because I cannot impart to you what we propose to do, but I assert that our military plans make it necessary for the Inhabitants to go away, and I can only renew my offer of services to make their exodus in any direction as easy and comfortable as possible. You cannot qualify war in harsher terms than I will. War is cruelty, and you cannot refine it;

What's your criteria for believing Twitter posts? If you agree they're true, if you dont, you're skeptical? Who's to say the replies saying the videos are old are credible? Very well could just be people like you who are upset with the results this far. Certainly a lot more videos showing grateful and celebratory citizens, yea?
My default is skepticism.. anyone can post anything on twitter. I don't think anyone contests the NBC verified video or other videos. Those have a narrow picture for a reason, other differences were noted.. Zelensky himself came to Kherson yesterday and there were probably a few hundred people there. Most of the city has been evacuated. The Russians were unable to supply the civilian population due to logistics, bridges getting blown up etc, so they left.
