This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

Russia has claimed its forces have broken through parts of Ukrainian defenses in the eastern Luhansk region, while Ukraine's military says its troops are repelling some attacks, but the situation is difficult.

The intensifying fighting on February 15 came as Ukraine pleaded with Western allies to speed up the supply of weapons and NATO defense ministers met for second day to discuss the issue.

AP story about Russia using older missiles stripped down of their warheads as decoys as their stock of new missiles are depleted. Plus, and of course, balloons.

So artillery is still queen of the battlefield.

This implies a 3:1 ratio from Ukrainian reports to actual deaths.

I know we all want to believe the reported Ukrainian numbers, but even at this more conservative rate the losses are astronomical. In one year Russia has experienced the USA’s total casualty count from 20 years in Vietnam. The toll on their society will be paid for generations.

I think this might be the most CQB video I have seen from Ukraine. Dude is shooting Russians a few yards away. Straight out of call of duty.

Warning: NSFW Russian soldier most likely getting the dead.

It blows my mind they are fighting trench warfare ala 1917 with todays technology. How anyone can keep their $hit together in that situation is mind bottling (wob on purpose so ease up)

I think it's because the battlefield environment makes maneuver warfare damned near impossible.

Unsupported MBT's are dead meat....limits the rate of advance to the speed infantry can advance....which makes everything WW1 like...with better weapons.

It has been a long time since I have asked this, but how do you see this war coming to an end now?

"The AKERON MP version will be used to run from a ground installation. The flight range will be 5 km. The second option is called AKERON LP (layout in the first photo above). This missile can fly up to 15 km. It is primarily focused on launching from helicopters, but MBDA says that this missile can be mounted on a drone.

The French army has already begun receiving the first copies of the AKERON MP. As for AKERON LP, it still exists only in the form of a layout."

Still hoping it can end this summer. Appears Ukraine will not have a winter offensive and is taking the alleged advice of the West to wait til all those IFVs and AFVs plus some tanks and more artillery are in country and manned. Originally Ukraine thought they could take back the Crimea by the end of the summer so that may still be their thought. Appears now they are content to bleed Russia of men and equipment.
