This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

What will be the consequences?

It is tricky. On the one hand Putin could leverage an asymmetric US response to get further support from China while also dividing the country on political lines which we do NOT want. On the other hand if we do nothing he may get further emboldened.

I would immediately make it clear to all nations that Russia has just had their one and only warning. If another US asset gets harmed we will take out ALL of those Russian asset types we want going forward - not one, all of them. Take out a drone it is open season on Russian drones. I would make clear there will be no warning there will be no hotline it will just happen.

It was all our fault:)

Keep a couple F-22's around. They do it again and their jets get removed from the sky.

Call out the individual R's...great.

Kewl

We're "calling out" your two top candidates for President. Will it be "ok" to point out those two are in favor of fascist regimes, and genocide when they are on the ticket? Or, will that be "verboten" because it's R vs D then?

We really need N-G or Raytheon to make us some drone tech, with a super-high-powered laser onboard.

When the MIGs come in close, zap that fuselage with some high-energy laser bursts to pop it out of the sky.

"No idea how your plane blew up, Ivan. We did not shoot any missiles at it!"

"Belhorod. After the explosions, a flash was visible in the area of the airport. Before that, something dived."

Seems like a miscalculation by DeSantis and Trump. The Republican base has traditionally been very supportive of the Armed Forces and supporting Ukraine is exactly the strategy the Armed Forces want at the moment.

They are worried that, should Ukraine win, Biden is going to get credit. They won't get any for just getting onboard. So they are really hoping Russia wins, or at worst the war drags on indefinitely. Giving Ukraine western weapons makes their victory more likely. They won't say that outloud, so they just hide behind Biden getting us in to WW3 or saying Ukraine isn't important so we shouldn't be helping as much so they'll lose.

All folks have to do is look at the votes...there's enough R support.

But it's got to be team blue/team red on this and that doesn't help Ukraine in the least moving forward. In fact, trying to make this a Red/Blue is detrimental. Call out the individual R's...great.
I'm not worried about the Senate. It's the House that is concerning. Your home boy Matt Gaetz is going to ride Kevin McCarthy like a pony. It is only by the grace of a few nuts that McCarthy is the Speaker and he will cater to them in order to stay in that role.

I agree with that’s where the concern should be. Still think there’s enough support in the house…there will be debate and demands for oversight though but there’s enough support to get through. Might be some tense moments…

Gaetz is the worst…

AP story about the impact of sanctions on Russia. It isn't what's been hoped for, but long term damage to Russia is being done. And, any economic data coming from Russia has to be viewed with skepticism. There is little ability to verify numbers from Russia, and they are using piles of cash reserves in order to blunt the effects of the sanctions.
Edit: There are more sanctions that can be applied. Hopefully we keep tightening things down as analysis is done on the effectiveness of what we are already doing.

Love me some Zelensky, but making Bakhmut essential in the media is a major mistake - unless they are doing that to rope Russia into feeding more bodies to the fire.

Better to go the route of brave heros/martyrs buying time before the spring offensive.

I hope they aren’t grinding themselves down holding it…

There’s conflicting reporting on the subject.

The AP story fails to mention that Russia ran a $24 billion deficit in January. They’ve paid for the war and accompanying economic subsidies with foreign currency reserves. They can’t do that forever.

D’s should call it out…fine. Directed towards the individual R's. Using it against the R party writ large when there has been bipartisan support is a mistake.

Going to need to have continued R support and with falling polling numbers that ain’t the way to maintain it.

I see what you are saying and it is a fair point. Congress and Ukraine do need R support for funding. It is concerning when so many party leaders, Trump, and Desantis are all using opposition to Ukraine financial support as a major platform and talking point to attack the administration. These people are setting the party agenda.

They are a problem for sure but there have been a number of R’s that denounced Ron’s comments and support Ukraine and the votes speak for themselves.

Anyway, making this a R v D political football is the last thing Ukraine needs
