This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

It looks like a comedy skit!

"The Su-27 pilot who "shot down" the American MQ-9 over the Black Sea was decorated by Sergei Choigou."

That’s a lot of medals. Besides one for the great drone shoot down, did he get one for stealing mattresses or a washer and dryer to honor the other great accomplishments of the Russian military over the last year?

Those looks like mobile crematoriums ready to do their work when hit by almost any modern anti tank weapon or mine.
It’s a joke at this point, right? How could those things run? How do they have parts? What is the main gun, and do they have ammo? For WW2 about the biggest gun on a tank was 90 mm. Got any shells for that? And, at the rate they are going through tanks, who is left to crew these relics? At most these things could have minimal training value, or maybe used as part of an entrenched fortification.

They use 100mm rifled barrels. I think there’s plenty of ammo in storage and the things probably run, but they moved on from the T54/55 because that gun couldn’t take down a main battle tank, and that was in the 60’s.

I’m all for using the weapons that you have, but this seems like a great way to lose four guys at a time.

Got it. 80 year old tanks and 80 year old ammo.

Ukraine’s most senior ground forces commander said the country’s forces will launch a much-anticipated counteroffensive “very soon” just as Russian forces are seen to be losing momentum in Donetsk in eastern Ukraine.

Colonel-General Oleksandr Syrskyi said on Telegram Thursday that Russian forces have not given up “hope of taking Bakhmut at any cost, despite the losses in manpower and equipment,” noting that the main Russian units taking a hit were mercenaries in the Wagner Group.

“Without sparing anything, they lose considerable strength,” he said, adding that “very soon we will take advantage of this opportunity, as we once did near Kyiv, Kharkiv, Balakliya and Kupiansk,” he said, according to comments translated by Google.

The comments come as military analysts view Russia’s offensive around Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine as losing momentum after seven months of brutal, incessant fighting that has left Bakhmut largely in ruins and thousands of soldiers dead on both sides, estimates of daily fatalities suggest.

Ukraine has previously signalled that it would launch a counter-offensive in spring but has also been waiting for the arrival of more Western weaponry.

Syrskyi said soldiers on the front line in Bakhmut had demonstrated “superhuman resilience, courage and bravery” in the face of “continuous fire of the enemy’s artillery and aircraft.”

The more air defense assets the Ukrainian's get the better.

One of the concerns I've seen from military experts is Ukraine not having enough to move forward in a prospective counter offensive.

Basically the worry would be a major Ukrainian advance outpacing their air defense assets. In turn the Russian air force being able to attack advanced elements with a lowered air defense threat.

Right now the Russian air force is pretty neutered because they can't operate in the current environment.

Unfortunately the Ukrainian air force can't provide that forward air defense so Ukraine will have to rely on manpads and systems like the S-300 they can move forward for that...

I think we are seeing the end of the Soviet war strategy. Their doctrine is to just try and overwhelm and bludgeon their opponent in to submission. They could throw as many bodies at you as they needed and would never bat an eye at their losses because, you know, Mother Russia. Now they don’t have the bodies, Ukraine had superior armaments(HIMARS, drones, counter battery, and Western intelligence). The Russians cannot adapt quickly enough or produce war equipment fast enough. And, the Russian Air Force, what a joke. If Ukraine gets in the offensive and starts having some major gains, RU is toast. I will finish by saying FU Russia. You had your chance to be a leader in the world, but you prefer a gangster/war lord type of government You grossly miscalculated your position and stature. All you have is threats and lies. Have fun with that you bigger version of North Korean F@CKS.

My main concern for Ukraines counter offensive this spring/summer is they have one hole in their "combined arms" order of battle. Air assets,,,

They pretty much have everything else.

Probably why Ukraine has been screaming for F-16's or other aircraft for damned near a year....they realize where they're short. Unfortunately "we" haven't really addressed that shortfall.
