This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

Getting pretty froggy there Hoosier,.. amazing what owning a hand gun will do to a guy.

I tend to get pissed when Democratic nations are over run by foreign dictators. And the US that previously stood up to said dictators cowers away

You realize that if we had put troops in Ukraine this wouldn't have happened and Putin would have blinked.

I can't sympathize with conscripts?
I do feel bad for the situation they find themselves in.

'I Don't Know Why He's There': Russian Mothers Say Soldiers Tricked Into Going to Ukraine

Russian law prohibits conscripts from being sent to the front unless they choose to sign a contract and become career soldiers. But in Ukraine, 'there are a lot of draftees. None of them signed up'
link

Not sure what you meant by 'assume the best'.
I just don't think an Infantry Fighting Vehicle and AA truck is a group of 'saboteurs'.
I think those are frontline troops that are trying to take over / move through that city.

Maybe you're learning here, that Russia is not a nation of laws. It is a nation of ruling elites, mobsters, who do what they want.

EDIT: And this is EXACTLY what Ukraine is fighting against, so they do not fall under a State-Run-Mafia again.

You don't freakin know if they were though. You presume they were just lost poor Russian guys on the streets vs maybe some Russian better trained assholes with bad intent. You tip your cap when you do that to your Pro Russian nature that literally everyone on the board knows you have for some odd reason.

One thing this invasion has shown to me is that aside from nuclear weapons, there is nothing to fear from Russia's armed forces. They are woefully underprepared for an actual war. The concerning thing is that they know this however in which case they may be willing to use those weapons if necessary.

But they look really really pretty in giant parades in front of the Dear Leader...

I’ll give them that. Their parades are terrific! I wish President Biden would have a bunch of mothballed M-60s and M-103s painted, polished and arranged in columns for a parade. It’s roughly equivalent hardware to what the Russians show off.

We can't promise 100% protection to the entire planet,.. The NATO border is well known by all parties involved here and I have no fear that it will go undefended if that becomes necessary.

In a urban environment, there’s no choice. We had plenty of Abrams tanks disabled in Iraq before the TUSK package was fitted. And if Russia intends to take and hold Kiev or other urban areas, they’re going to have put their armor at risk. Except, while ours were sometimes disabled, theirs will be destroyed, because, well, Russia’s tanks are junk. Just like pretty much all of their equipment.

Isn’t that nuts? In WW2 they had easily the best tanks in the world.

Honestly that’s what I’m seeing too…if this were to somehow turn into WWIII it would either end in nukes, or NATO dictating Russia’s surrender in Moscow….I thought they were a modern military, sure doesn’t look like it on TV….

This is what worries me.

If Putin has some form of terminal illness, like cancer, and has a year or so to live, then it makes sense to go "all in" on a gamble to rebuild the "glory of the Soviet Union" on his way out. And if that doesn't work in short order, then just "erase the whole thing" because it doesn't matter to him, anyway.
I think the ‘Tenet’ rationale makes sense here.

I guess there is some possibility they're commando/saboteurs roaming around a Ukrainian city in a giant military truck with an anti-aircraft gun mounted in the bed. But I do figure it more likely they're just low level schmucks that got separated from their unit and found themselves in a hornet's nest of small arms fire.

That was the interesting thing to me about the scenario.

Being able to grasp someone else's viewpoint, and being able to articulate that viewpoint to others, doesn't mean sharing it, but you like to leap to that conclusion.
I've learned to not worry about it.

We certainly could protect every Democratically elected government.

Russia is going to become an international pariah over this,.. I'm closely watching China to see how long it takes for them to dump their new buddy,.. Nothing yet.
China is all-in with it.

WW III is gonna be Asia vs Europe and North America
South America may be the only "winners" when it's all said and done.

China hasn't felt the repercussions yet,.. we are very early into this thing.

Wrong-I have made numerous posts in this thread alone that some of these poor bastards being mislead into war give hope that they may be able to get some to quit fighting. You have a history for YEARS being pro Russian so you are going to be called out when you get misty eyed responding to that video as assuming they are poor guys lost on the streets of Kyiv. A better response would be "What an asshole Putin is sending those poor bastards to get lost and die like that, Russia sucks"

It’s the same realization we came to as a country when we got our hands on the dreaded MiG-25 Foxbat. It was a grossly overweight, problematic POS that was incapable of threatening the SR-71, as the propaganda train had led many to believe. This has occurred time and time again with the Russians. There are scary pictures, boastful claims, dazzling parades and worldwide hyperbole. Then, a battle occurs. And their advanced weaponry proves to be garbage.

It seems like it's awfully early in the process to say that. For all we know these are small "feeling out" exercises designed to know where to focus more resources. If you mean 1 v 1, then maybe, but it seems they have the available bodies (and willingness) to make it 100 v 1 if they want.

I was going to say Russia has almost unlimited manpower they could sacrifice, until I looked up their population. Was surprised to see it is less than 1/2 of the U.S.

While I think they will ultimately prevail in Ukraine, I would be surprised if Putin tries to expand further. He just won’t have the bodies.

I do worry he will try to resort to nukes. If he does, I hope one of his underlings puts a bullet in him before he shoots one off.

Hmmmmm. No.

China plays the long game. If they aren't already, they will soon be talking to Putin (and maybe Biden too) about "How do we walk this back and what solution can we have to make everyone save face?".

I actually would be more concerned if China was siding against Russia too.....safest thing for everyone right now might be that Russia has a friend.

Designed by an American.
Great point.

The Germans were shocked when they encountered the superb T34. Russia had been allowing them to secretly train in the Soviet Union and had kept it hidden.

I have this photo in a book and the description is something like, stunned German engineers examine T34s that had run out of fuel.

Now back to the current war where we are rooting against the Russians.
