This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

Kind of wish they'd insinuate the opposite here; give Putin the idea that Ukraine won't be in NATO anytime soon, so he'll be less likely to go all-in on Crimea.

Once Ukraine is in NATO, Russia will never have the chance to take territory, again. And they also won't be able to "lease" that base, so it'll be lost, forever.

Maybe he knows that's the case, NATO or not, and realizes he has to keep Crimea at all costs here. Ukraine will never lease a base to them again, anyway.

"Friday’s deadly blast is just one of several to have recently taken place at Russian explosives factories.

Last month, five people were killed in a blast at an explosives factory in Russia’s central Tambov region. At that time, Tambov Governor Maxim Yegorov said the explosion was caused by “human error” and “definitely not [the result of] a terrorist attack.”

In May, two workers were killed at an explosives plant in the Perm region, located 1,000 kilometers east of Moscow.

In Kazan, one worker was injured in a similar incident that occurred in April at a local plant."

Good example of a time I absolutely, positively do not stand with the liberals in the Democratic party:

This is dumb. Russia has been using them. Ukraine can use them to end the war faster. Do it.
Truth - this is full of winning. Ukraine gets the right tool for the job of clearing trenches dug into their own land by war criminals, they have way fewer "duds" than the other similar weapons they can get elsewhere (thereby decreasing the "inhumanity" of them), we have a shitload of them ready to ship immediately, and we get to get rid of a bunch of shells we pretty much will never use.

Don't think they need them to clear trenches....at least not directly.

What they're really good at is area denial....most cluster munition have a combination of munitions that explode on impact and those that basically act as mines and are (supposed to) detonate after a predetermined amount of time if they aren't tripped. (this is the area of contention with cluster munitions). The area they cover can be pretty large based off what altitude the canister seperates at...

It keeps the Russians from being able to move up reinforcements and isolates units.

Just to add to this, we have provided about 2 million artillery rounds in a year and a half and it is putting a strain on our stocks. This article below estimates that have around 3 million cluster bombs: "A March 2023 letter from top House and Senate Republicans to the Biden administration said the U.S. may have as many as 3 million cluster munitions available for use, and urged the White House to send the munitions to alleviate pressure on U.S. war supplies." Couple that with this: "Cluster munition artillery shells and rockets have the ability to cover much more ground and do so faster with a smaller number of total shells. Combine this with the fact that the submunitions that are deployed from them can fall directly into trenches, resulting in devastating effects." Winning.

They need them for a number of reasons, one of which is clearing trenches, pursuant to the below article. If the article is incorrect, then I stand corrected.

My bad....nasty weapons :)

I'd argue area denial is the biggest advantage these would give the Ukrainians though.

Kill a bunch of innocent ppl. Sounds like what Russian do.

Great call
Just to clarify, Russians have blown up schools, apartment complexes and grocery stores, yet you claim Ukraine can’t attack a Russia military ship because they are shielding it with civilians. What is the alternative let this ship kill more Ukraine civilians. Sounds brilliant. I know what I would do.
