This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

Negotiations over the war in Ukraine could start ‘in the winter,’ Poland’s leader Tusk says

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Poland’s prime minister said Tuesday that negotiations over Russia’s war in neighboring Ukraine could start “in the winter,” as his country prepares to take over the rotating presidency of the European Union on Jan. 1.

“Our presidency will have, among others, joint responsibility for the shape of the political landscape, for what the situation will look like probably during the negotiations that, perhaps — there are still question marks here — will begin in the winter of this year,” Prime Minister Donald Tusk told his Cabinet.

He said he hoped that the “end effect” of Poland’s and the EU’s efforts will be peace in Ukraine.

He offered no details of the efforts or any time frame. He didn’t say who might be involved in the negotiations or where or when they might take place.

Poland has been one of Ukraine’s strongest backers against Russia’s full-scale invasion, which began on Feb. 24, 2022. Poland will assume the EU presidency just weeks before President-elect Donald Trump takes office in the U.S.

They had no plan. Ever.

Joe Biden, you were an epic failure, may God have mercy on your pathetic soul.

Hope my grandkids dont mind paying back exponential interest on some land no American gave a shit about 10 years ago in a country that was top 10 most corrupt 5 years ago.

The lie was "this is a cheap way to defeat russia" the truth was "this was a cheap way for every country not named America to defeat Russia.

But you know, some how people who make hundreds of thousands of dollars a year die worth tens of millions.

"French President Emmanuel Macron will discuss with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk the deployment of a postwar peacekeeping force in Ukraine when the two meet in Warsaw on Thursday, a European Union diplomat and a French official told POLITICO.
The meeting of the two EU heavyweights comes amid increasing fears that the incoming administration of Donald Trump will force the Europeans to pick up more of the military responsibilities in Ukraine.

“It is true,” confirmed the EU diplomat when asked about a Polish media report in the Rzeczpospolita newspaper claiming the two countries were talking over a potential 40,000-strong peacekeeping force composed of troops from foreign countries. The diplomat did not elaborate on which countries the soldiers might come from.

Putting foreign peacekeepers into Ukraine could allay Kyiv’s fears that its allies would not step up if Russian leader Vladimir Putin resumes the war. Kyiv has the bitter experience of giving up its nuclear arsenal in 1994 in return for security promises that did not prevent a Russian attack.

“It is very clear that ending the war and winning the peace is only possible when Ukraine is in NATO and in the EU,” Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna told POLITICO." (condensed version)

Putin will wait for Trump to take power to bring out a nuke.
He knows Trump will back off. He won't take that chance until he's got an ally in Washington

We haven’t lost a single American life militarily in Ukraine and have weakened one our biggest adversaries to a shell of their former self.

Sounds like money well worth it

Does anyone think if Zelenskyy turns down a Trump negotiated truce, and the US pulls support to Ukraine they can last long enough with only NATO support long enough to ruin Russia's economy and win that way?
I don’t think he can pull support. Congress is fairly behind Ukraine.

"In a strategic effort to maintain a robust and technologically advanced ground force, the U.S. Army has signed a $656.2 million contract with BAE Systems Land & Armaments L.P., based in York, Pennsylvania. The contract focuses on upgrading Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicles to the new M2A4 and M7A4 variants. These upgrades are funded through the Ukraine Supplemental Appropriations Act, aimed at replacing equipment transferred to Ukraine while bolstering the capabilities of U.S. forces."

Since the onset of the conflict in Ukraine, the United States has delivered over 300 Bradleys to Kyiv to support its military operations. These vehicles, older variants such as the M2A2 ODS and M2A3 models, have provided Ukraine with critical armored support. However, the transfers have reduced the U.S. Army’s stock. The newly awarded contract does not include direct deliveries to Ukraine but focuses on restoring the U.S. Army's inventory by upgrading existing Bradleys already in service or reserve.

At the center of this modernization effort is the M2A4E1 variant, which incorporates advanced technologies. It is equipped with the Iron Fist active protection system, developed by Elbit Systems and integrated by General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems. This system detects and neutralizes threats such as anti-tank missiles, rocket-propelled grenades, and drones using AESA radars and infrared cameras to guide explosive countermeasures. This technology enhances vehicle protection against sophisticated threats deployed by state and non-state actors.

Additional upgrades to the M2A4E1 include a proven chassis to enhance crew survivability, improved mobility for navigating complex terrains, and a climate control system designed to reduce heat stress in extreme conditions. Its main armament includes a 25 mm Bushmaster chain gun and a 7.62 mm coaxial machine gun, providing firepower suitable for modern combat requirements. Enhanced sensors, including a high-definition infrared camera and advanced targeting systems, improve situational awareness and operational effectiveness."

Russian forces edge closer to a key eastern Ukraine city in ‘intense’ fighting, officials say

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Fighting around the key eastern Ukraine city of Pokrovsk is “extremely intense” after a monthslong Russian push, Ukraine’s top military commander said, with analysts estimating Russian forces are now within just a few kilometers (miles) of the city.

Ukrainian troops repelled nearly 40 Russian attempts to storm defenses around Pokrovsk over the previous 24 hours, the General Staff said in a battlefield report Thursday.

“Russian occupiers are throwing all available forces forward, attempting to break through the defenses of our troops,” Ukrainian army chief Gen. Oleksandr Syrskyi said in a Facebook post late Wednesday. His forces are outnumbered, he said.

Ukraine’s stretched defenses in Donetsk have been creaking since early this year under a fierce Russian drive to capture its neighbor’s entire eastern Donbas region. Russian forces are trying to overwhelm Ukraine’s battlefield defenses with sheer numbers of troops and powerful glide bombs that blast fortifications to smithereens.

Pokrovsk, which had a population of about 60,000 before Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, is one of Ukraine’s main defensive strongholds and a key logistics hub in the Donetsk region. Its capture would compromise Ukraine’s defensive abilities and supply routes and would bring Russia closer to its stated goal of seizing the entire Donetsk region.

But Ukraine’s dogged resistance and Western military aid have rendered the gains costly for the Kremlin in losses of troops and armor.

A major worry for the Kyiv government is that tens of billions of dollars of key U.S. military support to hold Russia at bay may dry up under President-elect Donald Trump.

The Institute for the Study of War estimated late Wednesday that Russian forces have moved to within about 6 kilometers (just under 4 miles) of Pokrovsk, approaching from the south.

The Donetsk operation has had “a massive cost” for Russian forces, the Washington-based think tank said. Those losses “will temper their ability to translate these gains into more far-reaching offensive operations” in the months ahead, it said.

Though the Russian push has been slow moving, it has recently accelerated in Donetsk and compelled Ukrainian defenders to make localized retreats. Major battlefield victories have eluded the Russians.

Ukrainian media have reported tensions between Ukraine’s commanders as the military pressure has built. Unconfirmed reports said Syrskyi, the military chief, had personally taken charge of some brigades around Pokrovsk.

A renowned Ukrainian military officer, Serhii Filimonov, commander of the “Da Vinci Wolves” battalion of the 59th Motorized Brigade, described Pokrovsk’s defense as a “disaster.”

Senior officers are placing “unrealistic” demands on units and are unfamiliar with circumstances on the front line, Filimonov wrote on his Telegram channel this week.
