This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

Whataboutism?
So you've gone from denying there are no neo-nazis in Ukraine, to saying there are neo-nazis everywhere?
How many places are they elected mayor?

I completely concur that's not why Russia invaded.
It's a fig leaf.
But disinformation would be if someone suggested there are no neo-nazis in Ukraine, or the Ukrainian government.
It's documented by reputable sources.

Salon just posted a new piece.
Fig leaf? Don't you mean Red Herring?

I'm convinced the Russian ground forces and associated tanks etc are a bunch of fvcking bumbling idiots.

Their only way to prevent being obliterated is by doing the long distance, indiscriminate bombing of civilian targets.

I've also changed my stance on US/NATO aircraft and hope to see a "Iraqi Republican Guard" type annihilation, ASAP, of the convoys.

Edit... it appears the convoy is no longer in tact and has dispersed to hiding in civilian neighborhoods and forested areas. Chicken shit fvckers.

Again: Why is a "No Fly Zone" a "declaration of war"?

We've already declared No Fly Zones for all Russian aircraft over most of Europe AND the US.
How is adding in Ukraine, a sovereign country which is ASKING for the No Fly Zone, the equivalent of declaring war?

That simple makes zero sense.

If we were declaring a No Fly Zone for Russia over Russian sovereign airspace, that's clearly declaring war.

Let's quit muddling this and be specific; Ukraine wants Russian air traffic out of its skies, just like most of the EU and the US. That simply isn't declaring war on anyone.

Apparently, enforcing the zone over Ukraine would have to start by taking out any SAMS or other systems that would put US/NATO aircraft in danger. Plenty of those systems are on Russian soil which means direct contact with them, therefore opening up conflict with Russian forces on their soil.
US/NATO at this time is not willing to launch preemptive strikes on Russian soil.

Some of you guys are wimps. Punch a bully in the nose. He has no right to have his troops in Ukraine or flying over Ukraine blowing hospitals and schools. None of you had any problem with us doing it in the Balkans, Iraq, or Afghanistan? BIG F'ING deal he has nukes, that are not even confirmed to work. Look at his 190,000 troops that can't even take out citizens of Ukraine. Putin is a douchebag wannabee tough guy.

Let's just finish this.

And I hate war. Despise it. One day of NATO arial attacks and entire Russian military is gone.

I understand the argument of playing the long game....I do.... But as a student of history, there really is nothing comparable to this.

F you russian toyota sedan!

I have very mixed feelings about sending another generation of other people’s kids into harms way, but basically, I agree with you.
I would prefer that his missile launchers and artillery were introduced to Mr. Warthog, post haste. The Russian air attacks have been minimal compared to the ground based attacks.

Putin may be triggered even more by the sanctions that should really disrupt Russia. If he was willing to use nukes, that will probably be enough for him to let them lose on its own. Meanwhile Ukrainians die while we make meaningless speeches about protecting NATO dirt.
Well, then he doesn't get the glory of recapturing part of the lost Soviet empire.

I don't want to send in troops. Other countries want to do that. But our Air Force was built for this. Why else are we paying so much for it?

I don't think of it as a red herring (a distraction).
The expression 'fig leaf' means something that conceals or camouflages usually inadequately or dishonestly.

Strikes me as most apropos.

But 78 days of bombing Serbia didn't do the trick. Clinton had to threaten he would invade next. And Serbia had no means to retaliate.

What do you mean?

By the time this is over, Russia will be a third world nation.

Whomever follows Putin will be kissing China's ass to survive.

I hope you are right and could actually see this. Russia already isn't a world power. Having more land will not cover up your failing. They need to actually give real capitalism and democracy a try.
