This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

Been agreeing with you about 90% in this thread, but do have to ask this question: what "power" does Hillary Clinton currently wield?
Fair point. They must think she still has some influence or some sort. Perhaps just a lame attempt to create more tension within the party in power. Who knows.

I think your second sentence may be the case. Americans being politically polarized is in their best interest.

Let me pose this question, and please try to answer intelligently and unemotional, did the well meaning environmental lobby in Europe play right into Putins hand by forcing a shutdown of coal and a switch to Russian natural gas? I personally know a former worker in the German coal industry who is receiving a pension for the rest of his life and spends his time now hunting wild hogs.

This has been reported, so possible.

Ukraine still allows Russian gas to transit Ukraine and be sold in Europe, right?

This is a damn strange war.

This WSJ is from a week ago:

Ukrainians Risk Their Lives to Keep Russian Gas Flowing to Europe

Europe is importing more Russian natural gas than before the invasion. Ukrainian gas pipeline workers put themselves in harm’s way to make sure it arrives.

I wonder if/when Ukraine will take it upon themselves to damage that pipeline. In multiple locations.

Russia just sanctioned those people to give the Carlsons cover for their "just asking questions" rhetorical strategy....

"Why would Russia choose THESE people to sanction?"
"Why does Russia feel these politicians are most dangerous to their interests?"
"Is Hillary still in cahoots with Hunter Biden in child sex trafficking to Ukraine?"

And Fox viewers will get on their knees, open their mouths and suck it all down.

Etc etc.

Hmm. If they DID cut off access to that gas it sure wouldn’t encourage warm fuzzies and support for Ukraine, would it?
Western Europe likes staying warm-one would think.

I don't remember if I posted this before, but here's a test fire of a Javelin missile. It shows a couple of different angles. On the angle from the rear of the tank, a few seconds after it detonates, pay attention to the far right of the screen. You'll see a large impact just off the screen with a bunch of dirt thrown into the screen. That's the turret hitting the ground, a full 6-8 seconds after impact. These things are nasty.

Yeah, probably in the short-term.

Long term, moving fully away from fossil fuels will prevent ANY dictator from using natural resources like oil and gas as a cudgel against the rest of the world.

Looks like they were trying to hide getting as close to the homes as possible.

Question for smarter military types than me (@SSG T perhaps): Can these abandoned armored vehicles be retrofitted and used by the Ukrainians, or are they likely disable prior to abandonment by the Russians?

I guess they have a higher detail image, I could only make out 8 flashes and smoke plumes, but one of the first had obvious secondary explosion. Like a direct hit on a fully fueled soft skin vehicle. They have laser directed artillery, so it’s possible that drone or another was targeting at least against the interior clearing.
They covered the whole area well.
Artillery is the killer.

Here's the problem. There is no good alternative to fossils fuels yet. We should not be shutting down our production and relying on some mass murderers resources. We should have an identified solution first.

I think Putin isn’t worried about retaining the parts of Ukraine he’s doing this to.
But this is what they did to Grozny, etc.

The video said the drone was targeting and coordinating with artillery. Most impressive, as Darth Vader said above

While there's plenty of focus on oil production/supply, don't overlook today's little nugget in the WSJ to the effect that the Saudis are considering accepting yuan instead of dollars in petro transactions due to their fatigue with us security commitments. the times are a changin.
