This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

US special forces like Delta and SEALs on the ground in Ukraine.
And even if that's the case, we know, damn well, much more is actually happening behind the scenes.

The civilian casualties are heart wrenching, but time is not a friend to Russia. The longer this goes, the worse the outcome is for Putin, imo.

Yep, doing nothing just like me. Funny how that’s all you guys with war hard-on’s ever end up doing. Sure quick to want to send the young guys over there though.

What’s holding you back?

He's probably an out of shape middle-aged guy with 0 military training like most of us here. 😀

That being said, I understand why some people want to get NATO involved.

We have a diabolical dwarf dictator Putin that's attacked an innocent country and is killing innocent people for no reason.

I'm hoping his own people swing him upside down like Mussolini...

Agree with all of this. I’m a proponent of our milItaly getting the fvck out of the rest of the worlds affairs. Protect our borders should be the extent of the military’s operations. That being said, what Putin is doing to Ukraine and it’s people is hard to watch. Part of me wants us to go all in and fvck Russia into the Middle Ages regardless of the nuclear implications. But you cannot make these types of decisions based on emotions, and I think what we are doing right now is the right thing to do for the world.

Yeah.

I was against our 2003 invasion of Iraq and am generally non-interventionist, too.

What Putin is doing is different, though. It's too bad he has nukes or else it'd be an easy choice to carpet bomb Russian troops in Ukraine.

Do you have a red line?

There’s no shortage of dictators around the globe killing people every day. Look at Africa or the Middle East. 19 years ago today we began a war that removed one evil dictator.

I understand the outrage on Ukraine. I understand the want for blood. I cant bring myself to watch half the videos being posted here because it hurts too much as a parent of a 4 year old. it sucks.

But we also have to be rational, because others, specifically the dictator you mentioned, may not be.

Some of also believe we can’t always be the worlds police force. The ones that bring “peace and democracy” with our big swinging dicks and paid for with our kid’s lives.

I agree we can't be the world's police force. The dictators in Africa and the Middle East seem to be different because there is almost constant warfare, there.

I see your point. I just hope Putin dies fast and the next in line for power will be democratically inclined.

I continue to be an advocate for a no fly zone with much more direct support for Ukraine and here is why:

Whether we like it or not this is a battle of ethos and world view. Democracy vs autotocracy. Sovereignty vs. might makes right. If we don’t collectively put Putin down hard he will not stop. And we will embolden all the other mini-Putin’s out there. China takes Taiwan, North Korea lobs a missile at Seoul, Iran does god knows what. If we back down the minute someone says the word nuclear you can bet every last dictator out there will be trying to get WMDs as fast as possible.

Not to mention the ”threat” of nuclear war is such a far fetched bluff as to be asinine. The real threat here is allowing that bluff to succeed. It will destabilize world peace for years to come.

1) Can you give specifics on your No Fly Zone? What all does it entail? Only NATO planes and drones? No Ukrainian equipment? Are we flying over a Russian artillery unit just watching them pound away without doing anything? What happens when a Russian SAM (even just a rogue Russian corporal) takes a shot at one of our birds?
2) Where are you getting your info on this “far fetched bluff”? I’m guessing you have better intel than NATO/CIA/NSA etc?

They lost in WW1 and Zhukov and Konev are long gone. They don’t have the numbers to absorb the losses they suffered in WW2.
WW1 wasn’t really their fault.

Russia wasn’t prepared for modern warfare and the money for their military went to buy luxury goods for nobles, they faced extreme economic hardship at home, and they were ruled by a dumb autocrat who kept doubling down on a failing war effort.

That’s great. Since you seem to have such a better grasp on this than all our collective intel sources let me ask you, home many functional nukes does he actually need?

Probably WAY more than he actually has.
Which means he KNOWS he will lose, badly and completely.

I've never stated to "get NATO involved".

I've said we need to get a coalition of NATO and non-NATO countries to take this on, directly.
Just like Afghanistan and Iraq.

Putin would shit his pants if that happened. Oligarchs would be pressed hard to take him out. Fast.

Again: Putin doesn't have the ability to unilaterally launch (just like the US). Pretty much a certainty that if he calls for a "first strike", it ain't gonna happen.
“Probably”

“Almost certainly”

Again, what are your sources? Are they different than the lifelong CIA/NSA officers that have apparently been advising the administration differently?

This…

My fear is the idiots in the media and Twitter that are beating the war drums will entice the administration to change their stance….

Heaven help us if polling on the matter supports military intervention….
This is why it’s nice to have Joe Biden in charge. This is the competence and coalition building I voted for.

I went to held my daughter out with the grandkids while our son in law was in the states for job interviews….thanks for the kind thoughts.

This Ukraine thing has forced a total rethink for the Germans in regards to defense spending and being so reliant on the Russians for their energy needs. The German military basically atrophied over the last 20 years….large portion of military spending going To support the NATO Afghanistan mission and they quite frankly weren’t meeting their spending obligations.
I believe they have powered down all but one of their nuclear plants since the Fukashima disaster, and the one remaining plant is slated to close in a year or two. Would the Germans yield on that plant? Look, if anyone can engineer their way to more efficient renewables it’s the Germans, but it’s going to take time to replace all of that Russian gas and nuclear power.

“Probably”

Look at the shape his army is currently in.

A month ago, it would have been thought of as "insanity" that Ukraine (or even NATO) could face off with his "large military" and the hardware advantage they had.

That myth is fully busted. And the rest of his stuff is in the same, or worse, shape.

Are you purposely ignoring the question about your sources or leave it out on accident?

Nobody is denying his military is a joke. We’re all, clearly, talking about escalation with a nuclear power who debatably has an unstable leader.
