This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

You don’t think, ‘Ukrainians hide bombs in hospitals and wait for Russian planes to fly over to set them off’ is a winner?
Pretty sure this guy is writing half their press releases at this point. In crayon.

You're right...he shouldn't.

Still has to factor into the equation though...

Yes but I fear that we're teaching every tin pot dictator that nukes are the ultimate way to get what you want.

I mean the US stands by while a westernized democracy is invaded by a foreign dictator.

If Kim Jong Un ever thinks he has the advantage he will attack South Korea straight away.

So.....where's the off ramp for Putin?

Is the line total withdrawal or is he going to be given concessions to stop?

Really don't see him doing a total withdrawal without getting something he can call a win.

If you reward him with an "off ramp", he's just going to do it again.
Only he'll learn from the mistakes.

This has been the process....over and over and over.

Well...I guess the killing will continue for a long time....just can't see him putting his tail between his legs and bugging out.

Hope I'm wrong...

Coincidentally, that’s what Putin was calling this:

All public schools in Ukraine wiped out the Russian language from their programs this school year to implement the law passed by the country's parliament, Supreme Rada, three years ago.

The law "On Education" adopted in September 2017 envisages that all schooling, along with other public services, could be provided in the Ukrainian language only.

The problem is that I don't think he left himself one. His initial demands were so ridiculous that the only way to win is to completely occupy the country and either annex it or install a puppet government.

Unfortunately the only out is some form of coupe inside Russia. Even then, so many of the citizenry are brainwashed that I don't know how well the Russian citizens will take a withdrawal without a Russian win. Putin has definitely tied himself into a corner. I could see him accepting a DMZ between Russia and Ukraine through that Donbas region, keeping control of Crimea, and concessions that Ukraine will not join the EU or NATO. But I just don't see Ukraine accepting that as long as Zelensky is alive at least.

True....I'm starting to think their will be no "good" ending to this.

The Russians are definitely taking it on the chin.....I could see them drawing back a bit to more defensible lines...hunkering down....and continue bombarding Ukrainian cities until they get something.

An offer of neutrality for Ukraine. Putin could claim that as a win. His bigger issue is Donbass. I'm not sure the Russians even want it anymore. It's been pummeled, and will need $$$ they don't have to rebuild. What's he going to do with Mariupol? I am growing more pessimistic that he cannot crawl back to any of the lines pre invasion. It's beyond comprehension at times. He cannot hold what he has, but he cannot bear to withdraw.

That's the major problem. Even if Ukraine manages to push the army completely out of Ukraine, Russia can simply shell them into submission. If he's going to take the route of just leveling the country and calling it a day he doesn't need the army there to do that. He can just fire missiles from inside Russia and off of Ships.

South Korea may be a quite different deal given I thought the US already had a sizeable military presence there.

Kind of reminds me of the "great power" reasoning the Russian's and Austrians used to blunder into WW1.

They couldn't back down from the march to war without losing (in their minds) "Great Power" status.

Crazy thing is both monarchies KNEW they were in no condition to prosecute a "general" war and would probably mean an end to their regimes.

Fall of Eagles is a fantastic read on the lead up to WW1.

Why single out the Germans...they've got a lot of company appeasing Putin.

They are the leading economy in the EU and a major player on the world stage. They signal to the rest of the EU what is and isn’t okay regarding sanctions and what is acceptable.

They need to lead on sanctions to get the criminal regime in Russia to end this senseless war.

Of course people hold Germany to the most scrutiny.
