This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

That's the major problem. Even if Ukraine manages to push the army completely out of Ukraine, Russia can simply shell them into submission. If he's going to take the route of just leveling the country and calling it a day he doesn't need the army there to do that. He can just fire missiles from inside Russia and off of Ships.
Unfortunately true.

More anti-missile defenses.

How do you ethnically cleanse an area that is already ethnically the same as the invader? It’s simply Russia taking hostages.
You get rid of those who consider themselves "Ukrainian" and replace them with Russians. The same tactic China took with Hong Kong. Move a lot of mainlanders into Hong Kong so you dilute that independent streak.

All while alienating any support Russia had in those parts in the first place.

From Wikipedia:

As of December 1, 2014, the city's population was 477,992. Over the last century the population has grown nearly twelvefold. The city is populated by Ukrainians, Russians, Pontic Greeks (including Caucasus Greeks and Tatar- and Turkish-speaking but Greek Orthodox Christian Urums), Belarusians, Armenians, Jews, etc. The main language is Russian.

They want to eliminate any distinction. It’s what Japan did in Korea. You take away their language and customs. You ship a bunch of them to your country and a bunch of people from your country there. You dilute, dilute, dilute.

Exactly. And 86+% of them voted to be independent of Russia in the 1990s, and even more of course do now. Just because you are "ethnically" something doesn't mean you want to live back in part of it. And expecting people to learn Ukrainian in Ukraine is no different than Russia expecting people to learn Russian, or Americans expecting immigrants to be taught English in schools.

It's actually a pretty spot on comment. The Fox News personalities have been spewing Russian propaganda well before the war started and continued to do so after the war commenced.
Yep. They found themselves quickly regretting the Trump interview where he labeled Putin's actions as "genius".

From there...Hannity tried to get 45 to admit Putin was "evil". Didn't happen.

I went to check on the specifications of the ship, and Wikipedia has already been updated to list the Orsk as being reportedly sunk. They only had two of those class of amphibious assault ships. This does take a dent out of their ability to move supplies forward.

That is huge. I'll buy the pistol and bullet for Putin. As Nike used to say, "just do it"

The Russian state media was bragging about that specific ship just a few days ago. Sorry they sunk your fancy tank carrier, Ivan!

As I noted on here several times, I do not watch the opinion shows in the evenings. Apparently you and others do so I’ll take your word for it.

The delay in supply chains right now is more important than eliminating the ability entirely.

Big enough delay, and they are fully cooked - their advance forces will be eliminated or will have to surrender.

Yes but I fear that we're teaching every tin pot dictator that nukes are the ultimate way to get what you want.

I mean the US stands by while a westernized democracy is invaded by a foreign dictator.

If Kim Jong Un ever thinks he has the advantage he will attack South Korea straight away.
They already know that. It's no great secret.

The way the US did with Native American children forced to attend boarding schools where their language was forbidden.

Lots of things we did in the 1800s and 1900s are no longer considered "acceptable" in a Liberal Democracy.

What perhaps is even more appalling, is that the folks you continue to elect want to eliminate the teaching of many of those "uncomfortable facts" from our own schools.

Because instead of being "accurate" and "truthful", you've been programmed to view it as "white shaming"....

A bit of self-reflection would be appropriate.

So.....where's the off ramp for Putin?

Is the line total withdrawal or is he going to be given concessions to stop?

Really don't see him doing a total withdrawal without getting something he can call a win.
There is no off ramp and that's why this is so scary. This morning on my morning walk, I listened to a reporter that was on the ground in Chechnya when Russia invaded. This reporter eerily sees the similarities in the invasion of Ukraine. Putin had no issue with destroying Chechnya to ashes. Putin simply doesn't have a limit. He will continue to escalate until he 'wins' even if that means killing every single Ukrainian. To get back to your question, I'm not sure there is an end to this war with Putin in power.

Since you watch them and I do not I’ll take your word for it.
There are so many clips with the things they say one doesn't have to watch them. You really should pay attention to their words. Listen to them sometime and then ask yourself why you vote with them. They are truly awful, lying human beings who are paid to brainwash a third of the population. Everything they say goes against what the majority of the public believes. They admit to lying to their viewers...but people watch them anyway.

Again, I am POSITIVE you are a better human being than they are...but you vote with them. I don't get it.

True....I'm starting to think their will be no "good" ending to this.

The Russians are definitely taking it on the chin.....I could see them drawing back a bit to more defensible lines...hunkering down....and continue bombarding Ukrainian cities until they get something.
The bolded part is exactly what Russia did in Chechnya. They regrouped and then turned Chechnya into ash. This is why it is so important for Ukraine to stay on the offensive if they can. Don't let the Russians dig in and bomb away.

Why this is all true, they literally can't do this to Ukraine. Chechnya is a republic with less than two million people and no true big cities (Groszy is Tallahassee size) and is a tad bigger than Connecticut. Ukraine is the size of Texas with 42 million people and numerous cities. Oh they are trying to make an example out of a few cities as a desperate ploy to try to bring Ukraine to negotiate, but they don't have the time or ability or enough smart and dumb bombs to do it to the entire country. The only thing they can do, which scares me, is WMDs.....
