This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

What would be a shame is if the expansion of the war resulted in civilian casualties reaching six figures or more.
It’s shitty this war is happening, but enlarging the war has more daunting prospects than gas bills.
Everyone embraces ‘the lesson of 1939’, what about ‘the lesson of 1914’?
Is bigger always better when it comes to war?
This whole thing strikes me as more reminiscent of 1914....."great power status" "spheres of influence".

It sounds wrong but is common among all armies - the spoils of war. GIs brought souvenirs back from WW2 as well. Every once in a while you will read (at least we used to growing up) about some work of art being sent back to Europe when the owner dies and the relatives feel guilty.

How did you verify it?
I’m all for posting whatever info we come across and find interesting.
But something isn’t real just because you found it on the internet.
I mean, I don't have the expertise or time to try to see if it was completely made up but.....It's a tweet from an accredited journalist and there are some links to the actual calls if you want to listen since you are fluent in Russian.

But yes, it's not some false equivalency cut and paste (and then italicized) shit post on HROT.

There are parts of the 20th Century that we should relive - not limited to our tech advances, higher standards of living, reduced child mortality, hair metal, etc. - one of them is not a rapid militarization of Europe. Every one of the countries partaking will eventually have a leader that will decide it's time to use them

Not in liberal democracies.

It's why those countries weren't spending on military, because they didn't believe they needed that infrastructure - the ONLY reason they need it now is because of authoritarian regimes, NOT another liberal democracy.

Authoritarian regimes are nearly ALWAYS responsible for wars, because authoritarians need to retain power, or die. The peaceful transfer of power in democracies eliminates this root cause.

Are all Eastern European ppl just kind of ugly? It’s seems like they would fit in well in a Florida trailer park

GIs bought that stuff for cigarettes during the occupation. The Army after WW2 was cool with people taking military souvenirs, but they were actually quite serious about looting.

Sorry-we aren't any better than any other victor.

"As the United States Army drove deep into Germany in early-1945, American soldiers
stole and appropriated objects on a large scale. While GIs did take items when marching
through Allied countries, what occurred in Germany throughout the final campaigns was
different and more extensive. Not only was there souvenir hunting on the battlefield –
taking pistols, helmets, and flags from German soldiers – but also widespread looting of
civilian homes. Servicemen justified their actions by claiming wartime necessity,
opportunities for profit, keepsakes, and revenge for Nazi atrocities. Drawing on
memoirs, journals, personal papers, and interviews, this thesis seeks to divide American
soldiers’ stealing into two categories, souvenir hunting and looting, and to extrapolate the four major reasons why GIs looted. Using archival evidence, this work will also examine the U.S. Army’s reaction to soldiers’ rapacity, its policy-making processes, and the civilmilitary relationships in Europe throughout the dying days of World War II."

This is perfectly normal behavior.

I've seen this two other times in 21 years on these message boards. One loser, Guck, threatened to jump me at one of our tailgates. He said I would tremble in fear the entire time because I wouldn't know what he looked like but others from the board, fellow right wingers, had promised to tell him who I was. Fortunately, I've trained enough BJJ and Muay Thai that stupidity like that doesn't faze me. Actually, I can think of a third time. Our old mod, UCLA, used to receive similar threats but he is in Los Angeles and most of the tools doing the threatening were in the deep south. I seem to remember him saying that he wouldn't go back to TLH for one of our games because people had threatened him. Maybe Belem remembers more specifically.

Considering international travel is closed to Russians currently, I'm not too worried. :)

I wonder if we will ever know a relatively precise number on how many Americans participated.
Of course not, but it’s no surprise we have the largest contingent given the size of our population and the fact we’ve been cycling kids through war zones for two decades.
Big candidate pool.
We even have one on this board, and he checks the boxes.
