This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

More reports of Russian soldiers sabotaging their own equipment. Sorry, I can't give link. Coming from a friend that is still in the service.

Mother Russia has all but given up other than those that can shell from afar
Sounds like Putin will be last to know. I think the biggest news of war came yesterday when a US official said they believe Putin has been lied to as to how bad the war is really going and how bad the sanctions are hurting.

How ****ing dumb are these people?
It’s like a whole country of backwoods west virginia inbreds.

During the initial part of the invasion when there were increased radiation readings it spurred fears of a dirty bomb. Turns out it was these numpties driving through the red forest and trenching in.

I’m going to have to place some doubt on this report. A child’s hair does not turn grey from stress. Even if it did, it would take several months to show. Hair does not grow that fast.

This serves two purposes - it gives Putin an off ramp - "I had no idea this was happening, my military was lying to me", and it makes Putin even more paranoid that his advisors are not telling him the truth.
Sleep well Vlad.

Are the white bags they wrap around the shells a primer? Found this in a forum - "Mortar bombs have their powder charges partially in a cartridge in the base of the bomb and also use 'doughnuts' of powder in cloth sleeves around the outside of the bomb in many cases."

We had a neighbor kid a little older than I was in HS. He had an after school job driving a big CO-OP truck. He was driving over a bridge when it collapsed. Fortunately, the truck and bridge went straight down and the truck landed upright. He may have suffered bruises and abrasions but that was it. That kid's hair turned gray shortly after that while he was still in high school. I know it sounds crazy but it really happened.

Once there was this kid who
Got into an accident and couldn't come to school
But when he finally came back
His hair had turned from black into bright white…

Mind paraphrasing? Pay wall...
EDIT: For clarification for the idiots here- BELOW is what the NYT Op Ed is stating, which is what a poster asked for - a summary of it, because it's behind a paywall.

Nowhere have I stated this was my opinion - it's the NYTs guy:

Putin only wants to take over the natural gas fields of Ukraine, and all the coastal access to the Black Sea, leaving Ukraine landlocked and a Western liability to prop up since they'll be poor.
And he doesn't care about troop losses, he'll just shell Ukraine into oblivion until he gets the land he wants.

Interesting hypothesis for sure....

We won't know for sure until we see the end game.

If the West simply kowtows to him, and has to get back on the Russian oligarch bribes "sugar fix", then we'll know.

If the West keeps sanctions on, and moves on w/o the Russian money and resources, Putin will fail miserably.

The end result here is based on how we in the West act, nothing Putin does. We're in control, whether we understand that, or not. I'll pay a few bucks extra for stuff to make sure we win this one. How about you?

I would as well....trouble is domestic politics will probably weaken the will on these sanctions over time...

Ukraine is very high on the priority list NOW....couple years down the road? Everybody is still going to need natural gas/oil. Not sure long term higher energy costs will be sustainable long term politically for a lot of countries.

I tend to agree.

But I also think it's wise to not underestimate him or presume he's nuts or stupid either.
It's not a bad analysis

Sure, Putin would have preferred to overrun Ukraine in 2 days.
That doesn't mean he gives a shit about his army, and will simply move to Plan B of shelling Ukraine into oblivion to get what he wants.

Meanwhile, Joe back on page 3:

No; he has zero hope of holding on to "remote bargaining chips".

His goal is to completely overthrow the democratically elected government of Ukraine and "sell" it to one of his crony oligarchs.

On page 397 when I wrote Putin was after the gas and oil you replied no.
What changed?

It's hard to describe how impressive this us.

I've had to remind myself, that aside from donating some money, there's absolutely zero I can do. AND that there's always some group of people who are suffering as much if not as more than this. We've simply seen this one play out and felt it more sense it's happening to a modernized, Western European nation compared to where it's normally at.
There's a lot we can do

  • Elect people in the 2022 mid-terms and 2024 who fully support Ukraine, and the current administration's tactics/goals.
  • Quit worrying about gas prices, and recognize this is a small sacrifice to make to support Ukraine and keep the pressure up on Moscow
  • Actively call out Trump-supporting Republicans, who will drop sanctions and support like a hot-potato if they think it will get them elected

Doesn't mean "just electing Democrats"; it does mean avoiding 110% any Trump-adjacent Republicans.

Sounds like Russia is trying to soften up the Kharkyv area for another attack-Ukraine says over 400 rocket attacks over past 24 hours. It also sounds like they are going after fuel supplies.

Also -
"Russia is using banned landmines that can detect footsteps and kill or injure anyone within a 50ft radius, a report has found.

Human Rights Watch said POM-3 anti-personnel mines that failed to deploy were discovered in the besieged Ukrainian city of Kharkiv despite international treaties outlawing their use.

The campaign group said the ‘Medallion’ mines have been deployed by Vladimir Putin’s invading forces."
