This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

If the Middle Eastern oil states cared about feeding their people, they would supply oil and gas to Europe at favorable prices, thereby allowing Europe to cut off Russian oil and gas imports and bring a faster end to the war.
If they cut the price they sell the oil for, what do they buy the food with?
Right now, energy prices are rising faster than food prices.
Market prices not only reflect information, they perform a purpose.
If they lower prices, and demand drains existing supply, what do the Europeans do then?
Are low prices and empty gas stations preferable to high prices, but available fuel?

Prices aren't some artifact to be pleased or angered by. They are indicators of the balance between supply and demand, and provide information to producers about what people want (oil, ice cream, or streaming subscriptions).

Yeah, you're right. My key point is to enable Europe to get off of Russian oil and gas sooner rather than later.

Our Air Forces claimed they hit Russian Il-22M - aerial C3 asset. As if, according to radio interception, the plane took cockpit depressurization because of damage and conducted emergency landing in Rostov. Though, this also can be technical problem

The oil states have money. It’s the other countries that are screwed.

If the Saudis cared about the Muslim world, like they pretend to do, they would force Russia out of this war and allow Ukraine to plant for the coming year.

I had a busy day so sorry if this was already posted. I haven’t caught up yet.

Matt Gaetz being Matt Gaetz.
I am embarrassed, and saddened, for all of Florida that you politically represent them at nearly the highest levels, Matt!

You and DeSantis need to go 'hang 10' and then forget how to swim after you fall off the board.

I tend to agree. Also, if it was more than just political theatre, why wasn't it included in the recently signed defense authorization bill with actual funding to back it up?

How about a non-binding resolution telling the UN to live up to its charter or disband? I wonder how many in congress would vote "yea" on that one.

Give the podcast a listen. It goes deeper than the ME needing food. One point was made that Ukraine and Russia agricultural accounts for 12% of all calories consumed WORLDWIDE. That’s nuts. Anyway, it’s worth a listen. This episode gives a broad worldview of how the current conflict is affecting global consumption/agriculture.

Unfortunately more leverage for Putin. Wreck Ukraine's ability to produce/transport while Russia's ability remains untouched. Russia will be able to sell their product cuz folks have to eat....

Part of the food issues will be from lack of good harvests as well. Supposedly, Russia is the largest producer of fertilizer. Sanctions will not allow that fertilizer to be sold worldwide which will create an even bigger food shortage and will sour many countries on Russian sanctions. What’s more important when hungry? Russian sanctions or eating? Things are going to get even nuttier in the next year or so.

If fertilizer becomes a problem....Russia will be able to sell it.

Some unpluggable holes in the sanctions unfortunately.
