This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

I said that Rupert Murdoch likely has dozens of little Tuckers, different names of course, on the air and in print across Europe in his media empire.
Never even enters the mind of thinking about, OK, why does Fox News present the world the way Fox News does it? Who owns it, what else do they own? Is it a global brand? Do they appear to have an agenda?

You see this type of analysis when it comes to lib media I read when it comes to the New York Times, Washington Post, hell--the BBC and NPR. Fox News is too much of a joke and so obvious that the only interesting aspect of this type of analysis when it comes to the Murdoch empire is which countries they've seriously infected or have resisted them.

Yet you see all these domestic rightwing or MAGA types who seem to think a Tucker Carlson (this version of Tucker Carlson, not the MSNBC or CNN version from a decade or so ago) just sort of appears out of nowhere and is this singular phenomenon. And these people tend to see themselves as intelligent and savvy and informed.

Helmet shipment cancelled due to German concerns, that they could be used as offensive weapons against Russia.
Wait, were they going to send the pointy ones?

Lumping all democrats as not wanting strong defense and supporting the military is about as smart as saying all republicans are racists.
I think of myself as independent, but more left than right on issues, with the exception of abortion and defense spending.

This will be a popular take 🤣

I read his op ed and disagree. I know, “shocking”

He brings up the taking of Crimea and the Donbas region in 2014 and said that The International order had not been broken? If you believe that the Russian propaganda before and since then has not weakened democracy in America and around the world you’ll be wrong. It’s exactly the non response from the free world when that happened that emboldened Putin to try and take all of Ukraine.

It is appeasement to let Putin keep any territory in Ukraine while the Ukrainian people are willing to fight him for their freedom.

Now that Russia is on the ropes is not the time for Ukraine or NATO to save Putin from defeat. If they do that it will happen again. I thought we learned our lesson from WWII? I guess time makes people forget history and repeat the same mistakes?

If the world doesn’t endure a little pain now it will be much worse next time either Russia or China think they can conquer free countries whenever they feel like it and get away with it. NATO and other countries need to realize the enormous pain the Ukrainian people have felt and will continue to feel if we don’t help them defend themselves.

This is the time for NATO to stand up and say enough is enough.

Sorry for the lengthy reply.

Germany's position looks pretty explainable, when you understand the underlying economics...

@Moral

I saw your post about my Ukraine fundraiser. I was on "vacation" from HROT for a month. :)

Anyways, I gave my Ukranian friend $3,277 total and $580 from HROT! The last donation was in April.

He got every dollar from me within 24 hours.

I gave his website to every donor. They can email him or talk to him on video chat on Zoom or WhatsApp.

He's happy to talk and thank everyone for their generous donations. It's helping his family immensely. His wife and 2 kids are now in the London suburbs. He's in Ukraine unemployed.

Email me for more details. :)

P.S. THANK YOU HROT for helping my Ukranian friend and his family!!!

I agree with your sentiment.

I just think the economic/political realities will eventually force a negotiated settlement on Ukraine. They won’t be able to continue the war or rebuild without “western” support. IMO there’s a time limit on that support….hopefully it’s long enough so Ukraine gets a good deal.

How soon until things like Google Earth get updated? I spent some time looking at images today and it seems like for the most part everything looks the same as it did before the invasion. I did find an airport near Donetsk that had been pounded. Every building and structure was flattened.

Just checked out that airport on Google Earth…horrible. And when you go to street view, you can see what the destroyed buildings looked like prior to attack on traditional street, but there are also numerous “blue dots” on street-view around the airport tarmac. Press on one of the dots and someone has uploaded new 3D views from a drone of the destruction. Barbaric.

Oh well, they made the wrong choice. Cut your losses, redeploy your remaining assets and rebuild elsewhere. That's capitalism! They made a lot of money when times were good but now they will have to tighten their belts. Hope they're ready to pull themselves up by their bootstraps.

Capitalism has no moral compass.
It's about economics/making money. And making money that is directly related to human rights abuses and war crimes is still money.

It takes "people" manning those capitalist systems to step in and say 'No, not worth it'.

Kupchan needs to go to Bucha and ask for hands to be raised in support of a deal.
If predictions like these are true….in combination with inflation/energy costs. It isn’t going to be just Germany, France and Italy pressuring Ukraine. There’s a clock on support and I don’t think the time is as long as people think.

Gen Sir Patrick noted in the message that he was the first Chief of the General Staff "since 1941 to take command of the Army in the shadow of a land war in Europe involving a major continental power".
He added: "Russia's invasion of Ukraine underlines our core purpose - to protect the UK and to be ready to fight and win wars on land - and reinforces the requirement to deter Russian aggression with the threat of force."
He noted "the world has changed since the 24th February and there is now a burning imperative to forge an Army capable of fighting alongside our allies and defeating Russia in battle".
Gen Sir Patrick also set out his goal to "accelerate the mobilisation and modernisation of the Army to reinforce Nato and deny Russia the chance to occupy any more of Europe… we are the generation that must prepare the Army to fight in Europe once again".

The West has a choice: Address the problem NOW, or Kick the Can down the road so that the next generation can deal with it after it has become worse.

Has there ever been anything like this? Yeah countries sell to others, and even give. But for one country to have like 15 different country’s gear and equipment and implementing it real time as received?
You figure they have to have areas where they have Soviet style ammo and others where it is NATO/Western. But I wonder how they manage that and how it is working out. I remember reading a tweet where the plan is to eventually shift to all Western stuff, but IMO countries like France and Germany have to do more to facilitate that.
