This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

Russia reminds me of the 62 year old way out of shape drunk fat guy at the bar who once was a brawler and just got his ass kicked fighting a skinny 22 year old college kid he picked a fight with and as he gets back up staggering is threatening the kid and his 6 buddies.

All of the Russian rhetoric of “attacking” nations etc. I just wish some world leader would stand up and say: try it you ****ing pussy.
In a way I think that is what UK and Finland have hinted at recently. Then add in Lithuania blocking Russian goods. It seems like the West is getting more aggressive with Russia and almost saying, "bring it on". Maybe not a coincidence so many NATO maneuvers are going on now.

Again, they just need to hold out for a bit. Russia is throwing every weapon shy of nuclear weapons into this fight and they're making very slow headway. While it may seem they can keep it up forever, as long as western resolve doesn't falter they can't. They're going to make short term gains in hopes of forcing negotiations and land giveaways; but if Ukraine and the west maintain their resolve, they won't be able to hold them.

Bulgaria has to form new government.

"NATO member Bulgaria, which has historically close relations with Moscow, has strongly backed the west’s sanctions against Russia since it launched its invasion on 24. Feb. Petkov even dismissed his defense minister Stefan Yanev for calling the invasion a “special military operation,” the Kremlin-favored description for its war.

But observers believe that political instability will favor Bulgaria’s pro-Russia parties, notably the far-right Revival party which holds 13 seats in the country’s 240-seat legislature.

Ruslan Stefanov, program director at the Center for the Study of Democracy, a Sofia-based think tank, describes Revival as a small “but very thuggish, very vocal pro-Russian” party with a prominent social media presence that has stated that “Bulgaria should support Russia and not Ukraine.”

“They’ve also been very ... visible on the streets too ... Russia has sizeable influence in the country anyway, but new elections would strengthen the formal political representation of this influence,” he said, adding that it could “weaken the EU positions.”

Pretty sobering article...

And while the country has been successful in repelling Russian forces, it is now suffering some of its heaviest losses since the start of the war as the battle for the east of the country enters its decisive stages. Between 100 and 200 Ukrainians are believed to be dying every day as the fighting turns into a prolonged war of attrition with no end in sight.

Many are fighting with practically no military training against a Russian army that, while stuttering, still outguns its opponent by as many as 10 to one.

In a recent interview with the Economist, Ukraine’s defence minister, Oleksii Reznikov, said that the death of young Ukrainians was an inevitable consequence of Russia’s invasion, blaming Ukraine’s lack of heavy weapons.

“How else can it be? Young guys end up on the frontlines, where no one wants them to be, and they die … the world needs to know about it.”

Valya Polishchuk, a photographer from Kyiv, said that her days now are “filled with going from funeral to funeral”. “I was at the funeral of another friend when I heard about Roman,” she shrugged, before kneeling as the car passed carrying Ratushnyi’s body.

The contrast is a big one, his friends say, between the deaths of Ukrainian activists-turned-soldiers such as Ratushnyi and those of Russian contract soldiers.

“Our golden generation is dying because they are fighting for an idea. In Russia, many are fighting for money,” said Sanina.

Everyone accuses me of only ever badmouthing Trump.

In this case, he'd be the right guy for the job!

But first he'd have to take his shriveled orange mushroom out of Putin's mouth, and I don't see that happening.

I will say it will be interesting if this war does not resolve before the next election cycle, how he and his backers will posture themselves. Even more interestingly, if he somehow wins, and if the war is going on, how the different parties will position themselves. I would like to think both Rs and Ds will continue doing the right thing, but that might be wishful thinking.

I have to think Finland and Poland are licking their chops thinking about an opportunity to fight a weakened Russian army in conventional warfare.

The problem is that there is always the possibility of non-conventional warfare starting up if this expands to other countries.

It's obvious you have never been in or near a war if you think anyone is licking their chops to fight in one. Your mom should cut off your internet privileges.
