This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

"Himars, which are already at the front, and the M270 MLRS, which are arriving, are superior to the Soviet systems: both with a firing range of 70 kilometers, like the "Smerch", and a smaller caliber - 227 mm, like the "Uragan", which makes them more mobile and easier to maintain

Another feature is their accuracy. Ukraine will be supplied with guided missiles that accurately hit the given targets. Soviet MLRS, on the other hand, mainly hit the square and cannot hit a specific building with one shot.

We also sincerely hope that ATACMS missiles, which can hit targets at a maximum distance of 165 to 220 kilometers, will be supplied to Ukraine along with the Himars and M270 MLRS systems, which puts them in the category of tactical missile complexes."

LONDON, July 7 (Reuters) - President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that Russia had barely got started in Ukraine and dared the West to try to defeat it on the battlefield, while insisting that Moscow was still open to the idea of peace talks.

In a hawkish speech to parliamentary leaders more than four months into the war, Putin said the prospects for any negotiation would grow dimmer the longer the conflict dragged on.

"Today we hear that they want to defeat us on the battlefield. What can you say, let them try," he said.

"We have heard many times that the West wants to fight us to the last Ukrainian. This is a tragedy for the Ukrainian people, but it seems that everything is heading towards this."

Russia accuses the West of waging a proxy war against it by hammering its economy with sanctions and stepping up the supply of advanced weapons to Ukraine.

But while boasting that Russia was just getting into its stride, Putin also referred to the possibility of negotiations.

"Everyone should know that, by and large, we haven't started anything yet in earnest," he added. "At the same time, we don't reject peace talks. But those who reject them should know that the further it goes, the harder it will be for them to negotiate with us."

It was the first reference to diplomacy in many weeks after repeated statements from Moscow that negotiations with Kyiv had totally broken down.

June 16 (Reuters) - Recent reductions in the supply of Russian gas to Europe are not premeditated but are due to problems with turbine maintenance caused by sanctions, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday.

Russian gas supply to Europe fell further on Thursday, sparking concerns about the refilling of storage for winter and igniting a diplomatic tussle as Russian supplier Gazprom (GAZP.MM) blamed Western sanctions for hampering maintenance work.

"We know that there are issues with turbines, with their maintenance - a turbine is not being returned and was blocked somewhere," Peskov told reporters. "This is a consequence of sanctions, there is nothing intentional there."

Gazprom has reduced gas supply to Germany via its undersea Nord Stream 1 pipeline by 60% to 67 million cubic metres per day after scaling down the use of Siemens-made equipment, saying the German company did not return equipment sent for maintenance on time.

Thanks. Wonder if this is true or Russia is sacrificing a little income to intimidate Germany. Hard to feel bad for Germany considering how little they care about anyone but themselves. Maybe better to bite the bullet and get used to other power alternatives now before winter anyway. Assuming they can make the transition.

Be sure to check out the videos in the thread.

"Uncontrolled projectiles were scattered in all directions from the warehouses. The continuous detonation did not stop in the ammunition depot for 5 hours! For another hour, rare pops were heard from the side of the warehouses. And piles of smoke are still visible."

Two days ago, Germany's second-largest town of Hamburg told residents to prepare for hot-water rationing during certain times of the day due to "an acute gas shortage."

Now, Germany's largest landlord has warned tenants that when the heating season starts in autumn, they will only be able to turn their heat up to 17C (62.6F) between the hours of 11pm and 6am.

Meanwhile, Germany's Federal Network Agency has been pushing for a change in the legal minimum temperatures for tenants - with president Klaus Müller telling the Rheinische Post last month that tenants should face pressure to reduce their energy usage ahead of winter.

"In tenancy law, there are specifications according to which the landlord must set the heating system so that a minimum temperature of between 20C and 22C is achieved," he said, adding "The state could temporarily lower the specifications for landlords. We are discussing this with politicians."

Right now the legal minimum temperature is currently 16-17C in the night, and 20-22C (68-71.6F) during the day.

With Germany scrambling to replenish its energy supply for the winter, Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) has set strict legal targets for gas storage facilities - with just 40% of the usual deliveries flowing through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline from Russia.

We've seen how the Russians have recently added devices meant to make it harder for missiles to target, as well as old fashioned smoke machines. I wonder if Ukraine will indeed use Harpoons in an attempt to knock it out.
