This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

Funeral attire for the death of the Russian economy.
The markets can’t crash if you don’t open them.

That CNN footage of the burned out Russky vehicles with the dead body is tough to watch.
Question- any numbers on Ukrainian casualties?

SO grateful for this thread guys. Glad it’s here. 🇺🇸❤️

I saw a video of a Ukrainian woman that made me quit looking at stuff for a while. She is missing a leg and the cameraman walks about 20 yards to her foot.

The world banned together for right and wrong. I think you could make an argument either way. I don't think you can dispute it cost the USA way more than it gives the USA.

It is truly not a one-sided thing. Most reasonable critics of NATO point to the way it has allowed Europe to hide behind it post-Cold War while neglecting their own national defense and national self interest, which has been proven valid.

We're seeing BOTH the importance of NATO, and the importance of a strong Europe. What Germany has declared, a massive reversal of their policies of neglecting their own defense and willingness to cede economic independence to a despot, is an absolutely massive development.

This should both solidify the vitality of NATO, and strengthen it immeasurably to what it was designed to be. There's a huge lesson here for Europe, and they're learning it fast. Let's hope we don't see a backslide when this thing quiets down. If so it will be a better, safer world.

Hey, here's some more worthless shit currency. Hope it helps! 😂

Axis of Idiots.
OK so I was thinking about this last night. Why wouldn't a bunch of dark money go into Russia? Play the long game and in a year you will have made huge profits. Am I wrong? I know it is an asshole thing to make money on but is there fear the currency will just dissolve?

I was never for pulling out of NATO. It's an incredibly stupid idea. I will say, one of the very few things Trump was correct on while in office was calling out other NATO countries for dragging their ass on NATO funding. Seems like a few of them are waking up to that at this point, looking at you Germany.
The main things I disagreed with on that by Trump, is that people kept glossing over the fact that Obama and Bush had both been pushing NATO countries to do this as well, they just didn’t harp on publicly like Trump kept doing.

Im NOT blaming Trump here, but I do think that part of Putins calculus was based on his reading of how strained US/Europe relations were, and thought he could move on Ukraine with no unified response.

Yeah, I don't know. The question is the same as the big problem, how long will it take to get rid of Puitin? Two weeks or two years?

I will say this, when it is over, I don't expect the world to go Treaty of Versailles on Russia or anything. There will be massive opportunity. But it's impossible to know when the road back will start.

Unfortunately for his troops, the most painful way to die is burning to death.
Easy

Roast him one limb at a time.
Amputate part, feed it to him.
Repeat, until you run out of limbs.

Then, ears.
Nose.
Dick & balls.

Keep him alive in between "grill days".

And you're not wrong. The feeling of tensions probably didn't help as an end result. But here's the thing, you mentioned two, two term presidents who bitched about this for years also, but not out in the open. Doesn't look like that solved much.

Realistically, it was half hearted promises at best, empty promises at worst. At some point, as shitty as all this is, something like this probably would have to happen for countries to reevaluate how serious they take their National Defense and NATO funding.

It's a lot easier, and cheaper, to let big brother be the shield for the west while slow-playing your own funding increases with fingers crossed.

Anyone else think the orders the Russian soldiers are getting are along the lines of:

Orders: Fire your rockets.
Soldier 1: Where?
Commander: South.
Soldier 1: But....
Commander: I said fire your rockets!

Given how poorly trained many of these conscripts seem to be, I also wonder if the operators of this equipment are even capable of making precise strikes. They may not have even been trained on how to configure the weapons beyond the most basic of commands.
Those types of rockets are barrage weapons. (Just aimed at a general area.) They are trying to terrorize the city.

Oh look 🇷🇺 bombing residential neighborhoods again.

It won't work. Plus, Kharkiv is mostly ethnic Russian. Kind of self-defeating there, Puty. Ukrainians have all heard stories from their ancestors of when the Nazis bombed massacred them during WWII. This won't even come close to that.

It's tough, but they're a resilient lot.

Amazing thread, which I have followed from the beginning. I have lurked on HROT for years, so I get al the inside jokes on here. Anyways, as some have mentioned, I can't kick this feeling that that Nat Algren guy was actually, literally, a Russian Bot. I mean that is all he ever posted and he hasn't been back since. And it seems insane to think a Russian Bot would post on an Iowa Hawkeye Off Topic Message Board, but WTF do I know. Honestly it seems like the most logical answer is he actually was a Russian bot.

Yeah, weird for sure.

Also(unrelated to your quote), can we PPPLLLEEEAAASSSEEE keep the political bickering off this thread!

Russia has been their own worst enemy at every stage of this. Those convoys that are just sitting there are going to get lit up by MIG29s that arrived from EU last night.

The flight tracker also shows several French and US recon and spy planes all along the border. It will be like swatting flys with a fly swatter. Pluss the turkish drones
I just hope that in the fog of war, friendly fire does not take down those jets when they are attacking Russians...

I think we have several Russian's in our midst. He was just one. Likely sent to the Gulag for his failures.

The Patriot missile system has been mentioned. I read an article from over the winter where US experts visited Ukraine to see what they needed. (The invasion had been suspected for a long time.) They were told that Ukraine considered their army was first rate but they had little in air defense. The Patriot was not really considered because there are already too many requests for them not fulfilled and that the learning curve would be too long in this situation. (Per the article.)

I really restricted my feed after I saw a picture of the child that died in the school they bombed. They covered him with cardboard because they needed the blankets for the other children.

The most common sentiment I’ve seen from Ukranians is “I will never forgive” and it’s totally understandable.
