This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

Amazing thread, which I have followed from the beginning. I have lurked on HROT for years, so I get al the inside jokes on here. Anyways, as some have mentioned, I can't kick this feeling that that Nat Algren guy was actually, literally, a Russian Bot. I mean that is all he ever posted and he hasn't been back since. And it seems insane to think a Russian Bot would post on an Iowa Hawkeye Off Topic Message Board, but WTF do I know. Honestly it seems like the most logical answer is he actually was a Russian bot.

Well you could have dropped some more likes along the way. I'm just reminded of why Purdue is most hated rival.

“Hey moral do anything fun this weekend?”

“Nah just chilled.”

The real answer would be that I logged 40 hours of doom scrolling.
I do not have an addictive personality, but I am addicted to this thead. Thanks to everyone who is contributing. I think I saw a post yesterday that this thread would hit 100 pages tonight….think that may have been underestimated just a bit!😀

I hope my Arrests of the Traitors thread from 1/7/21 picks up speed again soon;)

I think he was actually a troll. Likely several people operated his handle. And yes I think having 25,000 people posting on western message boards as local pro russia and pro nationalist/authoritarian was exactly Putin's MO and began long before 2016

Noooooooooo!!!!!

So true! Around 4 p.m. my wife asked me if I was literally going to sit and look at my phone for another six straight hours. I told her I'd take a two-hour break when the Iowa women played :)

Yeah, weird for sure.

Also(unrelated to your quote), can we PPPLLLEEEAAASSSEEE keep the political bickering off this thread!
There really has been very little political bickering. It's impossible to talk about NATO, US-Russia, US-Europe relations and some of those other issues without discussing the previous administration.

The "bickering" is mostly embarrassed Trump supporters begging that no one bring up how his disastrous policies paved the way for Putin's misguided effort here. Sorry, that isn't "politics" that is just discussing foreign policy vis-a-vis political science.

Agreed we are most hated rivals, but everyone knows if we capture Putin alive everyone knows he's being sent to Ottumwa, a fate worse than death.
I'd rather be chained naked to a wall and waterboarded for a week than spend a weekend in Ottumwa.

How long til the molotov cocktails start going in the backs of these trucks? When the villagers start going after Russia"s naked logistic is when the military will turn on Putin.

I'm guessing they are mostly keeping them away from population centers. But if the Russians start trying to take Kyiv I could see the civilians in the streets firing at and throwing molotovs at the Russians.

This is Cancel Culture I am on board with. Suck it Russia. But really, how insane is it that the whole world, public and private entities, are coming together like this? This is an amazing development for mankind imo

I think that we may have seen the end of physical war anywhere that the internet exists and cannot be shut down or censored

We've all heard for generations that war is hell but when it's happening in real time and you can watch it from your couch, it's repulsive to almost anybody. We all see how pointless it is that people are being killed in Ukraine. 20 years ago, we would have heard 'and roughly 350 civilians are reportedly dead too' to make it sound like it was an inevitable byproduct

Sad and almost twisted to say, but maybe this' what the world needed right now. Something tragic and evil to unify us all. Like mentioned above, watching billionaires, businesses, liberals, most conservatives and other countries governments and people come together is heart-warming, inspiring and gives me a glimmer of hope for our future.

Reminds me of a scene from the John du Pont documentary when winning the wrestling match of 40 and over. The poor guy he beat was paid to lose. Of course, du Pont was a crazy MFer as well.

Ha good call. Hadnt thought of that, but thats almost exactly the same.

The one of him tripping over the carpet is great, but my favorites are the ones where he plays against pros, and they let him score like 8 goals. So sad

This is terrible for the Ukrainian people, but their standing up to Russia reminded everyone else what doing the right thing looks like. It’s been unifying because it seems that we’d all forgotten.
