This might be a little tougher than Putin thought...

It’s important to stay in step, and not get ahead of oneself, but what comes next must be explored and planned for. How does Ukraine rebuild? I doubt any reparations will come from Russia, so how does Ukraine reach out to investors? With an industrial base and lots of tech savvy young people it seems like good place to invest in.

Looks like higher level discussions are already occurring around the future of Ukraine once the fighting ends.

They were in 900s a few days ago.
Yep. They have basically lost what we lost in Afghanistan and both wars in Iraq in 10 days. Not an exaggeration.

Best I can tell is a large reason is sending tens of thousands of untrained and ill equipped mobilized troops straight into the front. Truly one of the most bizarre and weirdest things I have ever seen. When the mobilization began in September I don’t think they, their families or even Ukrainians expected them to be basically dumped into the front mere days later. It screams of desperation and thing may be much thinner with the “trained” army than the west even realizes.

With these casualty figures I keep expecting the Russians to collapse militarily but it doesn't seem to be happening.

Either the Russian ability to continue with catastrophic losses is incredible (historically it has been) or these casualty figures are exaggerated.

I don’t think they are exaggerated much, thus the point of the war where they are throwing in the peasants with 70 year old equipment. The end is near. We are closing in on 1000 pages after all! I predict one of the main if not the main reasons for Russia’s horrific performance and brutal loss will be massive corruption and horrible culture in the military causing them to have nowhere close to the modern weaponry and trained operators and trained maintenance crews. A completed fraud. Best evidence can be seen on how their air force could not even control the air over Ukraine. Just amazing

That crossed my mind. We've not seen much in the way of news the past couple of days from the front line, so hopefully something massive is taking place we'll soon learn more about.

However, I can't dismiss the possibility that Ukraine feels its very close, and its now trying to break the will of Russian soldiers by inflating the losses, making the coming death of the Russian soldier feel so certain, they quit.

Propaganda happens in war, it's probably the most used non-lethal weapon.

I hope the numbers are real, but we only have 4 more HROT pages to end this war, and will be happy when Ukraine wins, one way or another.

You'll have to define "the end is near".....looking at the "big map" there's still a long way to go for the Ukrainians to make it back to the pre-2022 invasion border let alone pre-2014.

This war is going into next summer even by optimistic estimates.

I'm thinking there's some behind the scenes pressure on Ukraine to "wrap this up". Western support isn't going to be indefinite if the economies start to tank.

So Ukraine has to amplify successes to keep the "Wests" support online.

We may be headed for 2,000 pages but we are up for it! (Glory to Ukraine)
Or Russia may hit the tipping point and collapse on at least one of the fronts.

I agree. Could they be inflated? Sure? Are lots of these KIAs probably the “cannon fodder” conscripts? Probably. But I think these reported losses are reasonably accurate. Can someone with an understanding of the Russian military correlate the confirmed officer losses to likely losses of enlisted (or whatever they call non-officers)?

Yeah, I've seen reports elsewhere that suggest these Ukrainian reported figures may be a bit high. But even if they're 10% high, that's still more than 65k dead orcs.
With the new, untrained mobilized forces moving to the front lines, the Russian Kia numbers will continue to increase rapidly. I'd expect 300 to 400+ per day for the foreseeable future.

That number is casualties, which includes deaths, wounded and missing - not just deaths

TBILISI, Georgia — The messages are spray painted across the city, thousands of them, cursing Russian President Vladimir Putin and telling Russians to “go home.” Many restaurants and cafes, including the ones where Russians hang out, pointedly display signs declaring their support of Ukraine. A few even demand loyalty pledges, saying that Russians should enter only if they first condemn the invasion or denounce Putin as a dictator.

“We need to make sure that brainwashed Russian imperialists do not end up in our bar,” reads the declaration form at the Daedana bar.
For months now, hundreds of thousands of Russians have been spilling into nearby countries, seeking refuge from repression, to avoid the repercussions of broad Western sanctions, and, in the most recent waves, to escape the prospect of being called up to fight. Georgia is one of the most enticing destinations, known for its mild climate, its wine, its food, its nightlife-heavy capital and, crucial to the incoming Russians, its visa-free entry rules.

But Georgia is faced with an influx it did not seek and does not know how to handle.

Per Ukraine, those are just kills. For reference, this older article with a similar graphic says the troop losses are kills:
kyivindependent.com

General Staff: 23,000 Russian troops killed in Ukraine since Feb. 24.

Ukraine’s Armed Forces said on April 29 that Russia has also lost 986 tanks, 2,418 armored personnel carriers, 1,695 vehicles, 435 artillery systems, 151 multiple launch rocket systems, 73 anti-aircraft defense systems, 155 helicopters, 189 aircraft, 76 fuel tanks, and

Another article said that back in August, the Pentagon estimated Russia's dead and wounded to total about 80,000.

An earlier article/source put the killed and wounded at 50K back in July:

Russia Has Lost 50,000 Soldiers In Ukraine, U.K. Military Chief Says

Russia has lost some 50,000 killed or wounded soldiers in its invasion of Ukraine and nearly 1,700 tanks have been destroyed, the head of Britain's armed forces says.
