Thomas Gilman talks Rutgers win

Sometimes I worry that Gillman might cost Iowa a team point with his antics, but I have a great deal of respect for how the kid competes. His attitude seems close to Tom and Terry's and that's a good thing.

Gilman is the kind of guy that you absolutely hate if you are a fan of an opposing team, and absolutely love as a Hawkeye fan. He, indeed, is the current Iowa wrestler that most nearly resembles TnT in their eligibility days.

Toughest mentally on our team. Last year takes a pin in the first period in the Semi's, shakes it off and comes back to pin NG from Cornell. His only weakness is the inability to score points from top.

I like the attitude only if he backs it up against the better guys at the weight. You're not allowed to talk s&*% like he does if you go out against a Tomasello, Megaludis, Dance, etc. and don't pull the trigger and look to score and score often. I'm hopeful this is the year he opens it up against the better guys. If he does, he'll find himself on top of the podium.

I completely agree Big Fall. He can talk smack after he wins the NC. Until then it's a bit shallow based on past experience.

I love his swagger. He puts in a lot of work and his results thus far are going to breed confidence. I like how he said about Rutgers that after you win a match you feel good about yourself and you run your mouth a little bit and then you wrestle a real team like us, we'll shut em up real quick. We welcomed them in and now we're sending them on their way. Him and Sammy Brooks are my two favorite Hawks. He's going to get booed mercilessly at Nationals. I showed this video to some non-hawkeye fans that I work with and they said, "What an asshole!" I asked if they would want to get on a mat with him and they collectively said "No way!" Mission accomplished, psychological warfare via the internet. Great interview!

Some guys like to throw out a little B.S. and some guys don't. I'm fine with either way as long as the results are there. Takes all kinds to make the world go round.

Yeah, I generally prefer that guys just let their wrestling do the talking, but it's hard not to get fired up listening to Gilman. Kid has potential to be a tremendous coach some day. If he can make an old codger like me want to run through brick wall, he's onto something.
