Thoughts on Idaho WR transfer looking at Iowa?

Jordan Dwyer… looks good to me but his level of competition is suspect but that doesn’t always translate to not being good enough by any means

Can he catch? 👍
Is he a wr? 👍
Does he have interest in Iowa knowing what our offense looks like?

Again, not sure if he'll be good or not but we have to keep some wrs on the table. The one I want to see utilized is the one that doesn't get reps now.

My thoughts are the WR Iowa State just got from East Carolina looks more like a real WR. Why does Iowa State always have Wrs, usually two of them, that look like real wide receivers when we can barely have one half the time.

Turns out WRs like to catch passes and have good qbs to throw to them. It really is that simple.

Yeah, top WRs want a lot of targets each game. Most of them want to be on the field on every play.

Notice that Iowa used to sub their WRs in and out on almost every play. A really good receiver , a top guy should be on the field for 90% of plays.

Because Iowa's offensive braintrust was the worst in perhaps all of FBS for 6 or 7 years? It's not just ISU that has had much better receivers and QB play than Iowa. It's the entire country. Iowa was last in the nation bad in passing offense this year. Again. Lester still has a huge mountain to climb in that respect.

I like him - saw one of his long catches for a TD & he wouldn't have to change his necktie ! He is a good-looking young man!

Maybe, and I'm just guessing here, maybe it's because ISU has QBs who can pass and an offense that isn't the worst in the country for years at a time. But who knows . . .

I actually thought Iowa should offer Mark Hamper. RS freshman opposite of Dwyer. He had just under 1,000 yards. He’s legit. My guess is he goes to ASU as Leavitt was his HS QB. Just not sure he will get PT there initially.

Blocking is a critical part of playing WR if you want to have a successful running attack and break big plays. Listen to Nick Saban or Urban Meyer sometime break down plays and they always talk about good WR blocking. You show your ignorance by making this comment in an attempt to besmirch coach Ferentz.

Hines Ward is the WR coach at ASU and those WR’s block their butts off. It’s a huge part of the run game.

Spot on. Two things really bug me. Obviously one is on topic that this philosophy has always made it harder to land good WRs.

But secondly, it is absolutely maddening how predictable certain WR packages and formations are for opposing defenses. It’s almost always a WR that NEVER gets the ball thrown to him for the 1 WR set formation. It’s like it’s token playing time but not really…. Hey, Wetjen is in…cool….almost certainly a running play, but if not, they ain’t throwing to him anyway.

Dammit now my blood pressure is up!!!

Hmmm, so the guy has 1200 yds and 12 TD's but does't look like a "real WR"? Okay then...

He seems likely to move up to a better situation.

Iowa needs to go Moneyball on a guy with less gaudy stats.
Yet to be determined if they can find a true quality primary wr that isn't a just a down field blocker.

Have to sell the new OC/system.

It got better and will improve with the right guys.

It can sell.
Unfortunately the passing game (which is what you're selling to wide receivers) wasn't really any better this year. Worst in the nation excluding service academies for the second straight year.
