Today on twitter.

I remember when Brad was coming into school in the Hayden Fry days, and they just announced that Melvin Foster committed. He had a heart-to-heart with his dad about even coming here, since he wasn’t sure he would get to play LB with Foster coming in at the same time.

Day 1 starter at ILB? Brad Quast. Maybe even as a freshman. Apparently the guy was built out of pig iron. It was like a 2 star beating out a 5-Star. Melvin found his niche, too, but Quast was the better ILB

I'm very certain I recall Quast being a top 100 player overall making him a high 4 star, Foster was like a top 25 5 star caliber guy though.

Right, both Quast and Foster were heavily recruited, Top 100 type players. Quast was a starter as a true freshman and was outstanding , putting up Station-like numbers. He was one of the Big Tens best LB's for several seasons, but eventually had to give up football due to recurring neck injuries, missing what would have been his senior season I believe.

I remember Quast’s injuries. In fact, I thought I had read somewhere where he and his wife didn’t want their kids playing football because of Brad’s injuries. I know one of his sons played baseball. I was surprised to see that he had a son playing football.

What kind of family looks at what’s going at Michigan State and thinks, That’s something we want our son to a part of!
My thoughts exactly. This is far from over up there. It would not surprise me is Izzo bolts this summer to a NBA gig. Dantonio should of been blasted years ago with his policies or lack there of when it comes to program control.

If had his kind of coin and was 63, I wouldn't bother with the grind of the NBA. Retire, do some TV work and enjoy your life.

Yea, I don't know about that TV gig. If any of this eventually hits Izzo's desk, (which it should), he won't be in too good a position for a network job. Too many network people getting hung out right now, by the "me too", crowd. They may not want to get near him with a 10 foot pole.

It's amazing how we can speak about him not being wanted by any future employer yet he keeps his job with 0 fear.

Could be, but he's not a "first person" abuser so he'll get some leeway. If not broadcasting, he'd find some kind of ancillary job if he wanted to stay connected to hoops. Having just watched my wife retire mega-early, I've seen how tough it can be to step away from something you've done your whole life.

I feel like i remember reading something about the big ten doing that some years ago. Idk why I think that

I couldn't remember who was referenced but there was a team or state that was given as an example and it "set them back 10 years". I do not mean to make this political in any way but the state of California is just bass ackwards about the way it wants to do things.

Maybe so they can say coaches aren’t overpaid and not have to pay players eventually. Or maybe they’re gearing up to eventually have to pay players. Or they’re cutting funding to state schools and this is a way to keep the funding there.

California's legislators have a great track record of f****** things up. A beautiful state with unbelievable natural resources...has been turned into a shit show.
Will it really change anything? Isn't the source of most coaches salaries listed as from donations or gifts or something?

That shit shows economy is 5th in the world behind the United States, China, Japan and Germany. I live in a breathtaking part of Northern California. I ignore the politics. But Iowa is home and I miss it a lot.

Love Northern California. The further you get from the major cities, the better things get.

I have a home in SoCal and another in a different state. I'm selling the SoCal home, it has turned into the worst state in the union (except for Illinois and possibly New York). Keep ignoring the inevitable Johnsoda, it won't stop what the future has in store for the state that finishes at the bottom in almost all of the important metrics.
