Tom Osborne=Art Briles??

Osborne didn't need LP to play so they could win the National title we were loaded at running back with Ahman Green ( all time leading rusher for the Green Bay Packers) Clinton Childs and Damon Benning.

Not all of us agree on how Tom Osborne handled this situation and years later I'm sure Tom himself wished he would have handled it differently, but he gave LP a chance to change his life which he failed miserably.

Just spent the weekend at a wedding in Omaha. All Fat Red fans. Did not speak to one person who thinks they can beat Iowa this year. None were happy with Reilly.

Oh, so he activated LP because he didn't need him. Interesting, convenient theory. Save us the Green Bay blah blah blah please as you're using something that happened after to justify a decision made prior. The truth is that Tom traded integrity for a trophy, he's not the first nor last.

B.S Ahman had over 1,000 yards 1995... Remember Tommie Frazier.o_O

So instead of 62-24 we would have beaten them 49-24. Our Defense was also loaded with Future NFL players.

And you never address the real issue because you're incapable emotionally, DOH! #wearepennstate. Btw, you do realize that your site would never allow this conversation to take place right? Cuz they are just like you...limited.

It isn't my fault that the Iowa site needs any posters they can to generate interest in their site and program to make a buck

Baylor actually acted, and disciplined/terminated enablers of despicable offenses unlike Saint Tom across the Missouri.

Christian Peter, one example:

While at Nebraska, Peter had eight run-ins with the law for various offenses such as threatening a parking attendant while his vehicle was being towed, trespassing, public urination, refusing to comply with police, minor in possession of alcohol, failure to appear in court, and allegedly grabbing a woman by the throat. He was convicted four times. [3][4]

Most infamously, he was alleged to have raped Kathy Redmond,[5] a freshman from Littleton, Colorado; two times in two days—the second with two of his teammates keeping watch. Redmond didn't report it to police until after her freshman year. Redmond's parents confronted various Nebraska coaches about it, but Peter was never charged or disciplined. This inaction led Redmond to file a Title IX suit against Nebraska in 1995; the suit was settled two years later with Nebraska paying $50,000 and the other two agreeing to pay an undisclosed sum of money. Former coach Tom Osborne has since apologized to Redmond and the two have reconciled.[3] Recently, Osborne invited Redmond to speak to the football team about violence against women.

In 1993, Peter was alleged to have sexually violated Melissa DeMuth in his dorm room, though he was never charged over the alleged incident. He was accused of groping Natalie Kuijvenhoven (a former Miss Nebraska) in a crowded bar and told her how she "loved it" in an "obscenity-laced tirade". He was convicted and sentenced to 18 months probation, and was suspended for a 1993 exhibition game.[3]

Make sure you keep your VHS tapes and VCR in good working order, we don't want skirt fan to be without their once mighty glory.

LOL, different sport, POS coach that is hated here and 1 isolated incident, BRILLIANT. You guys worship that POS Osborne like he is the Messiah and really don't seem to care at all of what it took for your scumbag program to finally get over the edge in the 90s. Just win baby!!!! #WEAREPEDSTATE #GOBIGRED

Iowa site= free speech, Even if it means putting up with fans from other teams with disagreeing view points, Nebraska site= our view point and our view point only, If you disagree, Banned.
Bingo, you say 1 thing out of line there, your gone, buh bye. The "Regime" cannot have any holes poked in it, it truly is a Cult. Masking of major prior wrongs, disgusting.

Thanks for the read guys, this is amazing. I especially like that the Husker fans keep coming back for more. Oh, and the answer to the OP question:

Yes, and if social media and our sensitivity to everything existed back then, Osborne would have gone down in similar fashion to JoePa, and what we're seeing for Briles now.

Really, I guess skirt fan completely missed 2015. It makes with how bad they sucked that they would just ignore the whole year.

Good job skirt fan.

What is truly pathetic is you celebrate a division championship as if it is worth anything.

You're probably right, but I guess the question I have is what's the purpose of taking pot shots at someone who retired from coaching 20 years ago? I guess some of us can't get enough engaging conversation with Nebraska fans.

To be honest, though, I'm kind of disappointed to learn of these incidents. Growing up, I had always had a positive view of Tom Osborne, as I swear I remember reading positive articles about him, such as not having his teams practice on Sundays because it was "the Lord's Day," i.e.

What is truly pathetic is that the skirts haven't been relevant in over a decade.

At least you have your VHS tapes.

Nebraska also has a divisional championship, we just don't celebrate it like you guys do. Different expectations clearly. What media platform was popular when Iowa was relevant, the radio?

Is it as pathetic as a poster with the name gopherhusker posting on a hawkeye fan page? or as pathetic as both the Minny and Nebby's win totals last year? Is it as pathetic of a fan of two programs in the very division that Iowa won and yet, that said fan is making fun of a fan base for celebrating winning that very division????.....no need to answer these questions, they are rhetorical questions.

The Hawks were relevant last year. The skirts haven't been relevant in over a decade.

Break out those VHS tapes.

In 2015, 2010, 2002-2006 I think social media was primary source of gathering information....not sure if that was around in 1999, I do know that this years recruiting class wasn't around the last time Nebby was relevant.....

I suppose relevancy is open to interpretation, but Iowa finished Top 10 in the country in 2002, 2003, and 2004 (not to mention last season and in 2009).

So, to answer your question, the Internet?

My fault. Lawrence Phillips dragged his girlfriend down three flights of steps, not "a flight of steps" as I previously stated. That was after he unlawfully entered the victim's apartment, pushed her into the bathroom and knocked her down.
http://www.latimes.com/sports/sportsnow/la-sp-jim-murray-lawrence-phillips-20150414-story.htm

"I wouldn't call it a beating," Coach Osborne was quoted as protesting in the Lincoln papers that week.

According to police, Phillips pulled the woman by the hair downstairs and bashed her head into a mailbox
http://articles.latimes.com/2005/sep/10/local/me-phillips10/2

The case against Phillips was probably a load of bullcrap. Wait...

Phillips plead no contest to trespassing and misdemeanor assault.

The GF beat down incident was Phillips' second assault charge.
http://articles.philly.com/1995-09-...a-coach-tom-osborne-cornhuskers-damon-benning

In March 1994, police said Phillips grabbed a man around the neck and pulled him away during a confrontation on a Lincoln street. Misdemeanor charges were dropped after Phillips paid the man $400 for a necklace the man said was damaged.

I will concede that there are more precise facts involved in the multiple assaults that I am not aware of. There might even be mitigating facts in his favor. For example, did he ask nicely to be let in before trespassing into the victims premises? Did he pause momentarily after each flight of steps? When he grabbed that man's neck and pulled him away, did he do so gently?

I don't know. Ask Tom Osborne.

.

You are correct that he grabbed her hair, and took her down the stairs. I'm pretty sure she wasn't "dragged." It's still bad regardless. You are incorrect that he assaulted her when he caught her in bed, and incorrect that he slammed her head into the mailbox. You are also incorrect that he was reinstated prior to the bowl game. He spent 6 games suspended and came back I'm pretty sure for the Iowa State game, then the Oklahoma game...prior to the bowl game.

No one is saying he is a good guy. And no one is saying that he deserved to be reinstated. Osborne has on many occasions said that he thinks he made a mistake. But I believe he made the mistake with good intentions. Call me brainwashed, but nearly 20 years after his retirement, at the age of 79, Osborne is still heavily involved with his child mentoring program, which he and his wife founded in 1990, to positively impact at-risk kids.

Osborne also had freshmen RB Ahman Green, who had run for close to 1,100 yards and 7.7 yards per carry that year, and he ran all over Florida when he got in. He also had Damon Benning, who averaged 6.5 yards per carry, and Clinton Childs, who averaged 7.8 yards per carry in '95 that could have played.

Phillips completed his 6-game suspension, and completed all of the requirements, so by the stated punishment, he was reinstated. The problem is that he probably should have been suspended for at least the year, and probably permanently.

Lawrence Phillips was raised in a toxic single-parent household where he was an afterthought to his mom. Her boyfriend reportedly beat up Lawrence on a fairly regular basis...when Lawrence was an 11 year old. He also on at least one occasion beat Lawrence, and unzipped his pants and urinated on him. His mother chose to stay with this man instead of taking care of her son and getting out of the situation. She chose the abusive boyfriend over protecting her young son.

I'm not trying to minimize the severity of Lawrence Phillips' actions, because he probably should have been kicked off the team, but unless you've lived in that sort of homelife, we don't know how we would have turned out. Supposedly he tested out as a gifted child, but I'm not going to say that I wouldn't have had the same sort of anger issues, had I gone through the same things he did.

Another fusker emotionally incapable of doing anything but defend their religion. And yes, we hate Nebraska, your fan base has earned that honor, so what. Your gut wrenching losses last year combined with our undefeated season made for an incredibly enjoyable season last year. :)

I'm guessing you weren't enjoying much of anything on January 1st. :D

Iowa didn't have a bunch of POS thugs on their team getting them to 12-0, I enjoyed the ride quite well. No coach masking major issues and giving players 2,3,4 chances when those players should have been booted at the VERY LEAST. #GOBIGRED!!!!!!!!!!

You should so some respect to Nebraska and Minnesota. Without those states where would Hawkeye grads find gainful employment.
