TONIGHT!: Soccer Sweet 16 Sunday: 8 PM on ESPN+: 3 Iowa vs 7 VA Tech

Thread title update again. The eight games of the Soccer Sweet 16 are a marathon, noon to night today. The Hawks-Hokies are the late match, and the last ticket punched to the Elite Eight XI’s. Definitely pulling for Sparty to upset Duke and give us one last home match with a berth at College Cup weekend on the line.

Duke up 2-0 so it looks like the winner will be traveling to Durham
Not a good omen for Iowa that the ACC is having a very good night over the B1G. Wake Forest beat Ohio State, UNC over Minnesota, and Duke over Sparty. Hopefully it’s just a good night for the North Carolina schools.

Side note: With Wake Forest and Penn State going through, the Hawks have beaten two of this year’s Elite Eight Xl’s.

I heard we got one behind the keeper too. Ugh... half 0-0?

I need some updates as I don't have ESPN+
Yep. No one there to punch it home though. These teams are near mirror images of each other, with Iowa slightly better in possession. Both tough tackling teams. It’s been very physical. Halftime just now.

Clear fuqqin’ foul in midfield by VA Tech and then bitching to get the softest PK ever? Ooh, I despise this team. Luckily the ref didn’t fall for it.

I feel like the quality of soccer should be a little higher at this point. But, let’s go Hawks.
Hawks getting mugged all game, but especially this second half. VA Tech can’t handle possession wise so the strategy is to foul and hope the ref swallows the whistle while they break quickly in transition.

Yeah, it’s physical. But players are just clearing the ball in a panic and giving it away constantly.

Fuqq. A looping cross goes over a leaping Enneking and into the far side netting. Damn. 1-0 Hokies with 10 minutes to equalize for the Hawks.
