TONIGHT!: Soccer Sweet 16 Sunday: 8 PM on ESPN+: 3 Iowa vs 7 VA Tech

That hit crossbar and hit post from defenders Schueller and Greer will haunt them. We were probably the more skilled, but in a coin flip game like that, you can’t afford to waste multiple good chances.

Parten? What about her. She almost drew a PK there, but yeah. Rough tournament for her. She looked more easily gassed. Possibly coming off a sickness.

Yes, auto correct, sorry.

But not just the tournament, the second half of the season. Didn't look like she had the same form as the start of the year.

I don’t think that was an issue. She hit the absolute Golazo against Washington and two assists against Oregon in her last two home matches. Definitely got double team attention anywhere near the box. And these are obviously elite defenses. She put two in against an eventual #1 and currently Elite 8 Wake Forest. She’ll be fine.

Oh yeah, I agree 100% that she will be good for the long haul. I just didn't think she was getting the same minutes as she had earlier on. May have been to other players returning. I know she had less than 15 in the first and didn't seem to play a ton in the second.

Ultimately, the whole team looked out of gas at the end. I know we are fairly direct and use pace/ press to win the ball and go but I didn't feel there was a great plan B tonight, especially when VT's line dropped.

Regardless, it was a historic season and we are a program on the rise. The staff will inevitably find players in the portal that will be helpful where we need it plus we have a good recruiting class. This program is going the right direction.

Tough to lose on a fluke, but that's the way it goes. Menace said that we have two stud freshman and I think I recall one is a scorer and the other I think is a midfielder which is where I thought we needed more from last night. With Enneking gone... do we have someone ready or do we need to hit the portal? I'm guessing we will bring in 2-3 transfers to help mesh with younger players to keep the momentum going into next season.

Yeah, our freshman were part of a top 20 recruiting class in the country, according to Top Drawer Soccer, and our two five stars are a target forward (Parten) and an attacking midfielder (Binggeli). Meike Ingles is going to be really tough to replace, but she might have another year of eligibility with injuries and Binggeli has that potential ability. I think we get Kelli McGroarty back from injury for another year. She scored multiple crucial goals for us at the B1Gs and NCAAs last year. She's a big time gamer. Goalkeeper is definitely the biggest question mark. We have a JUCO transfer that looks good, and a three star recruit from Texas incoming, but that's one position that's seemingly wide open. Dave will probably bring another stud goal scoring transfer in as a grad student like he always does (like Maya Hansen this year, and Alyssa Walker before her). I feel like this team is one dynamic playmaking center midfielder away from being a national title contender. Next year will be fascinating.

Yeah, they were lacking in the midfield... and Skyers really shut down her side of the field and we didn't seem to have an answer for that.

Two Canadian studs from MLS academy teams incoming, after landing two five stars last year. And yes, Dillani has thrived on transfers. The second assist was Lauren Geczik, a Texas A&M grad transfer.

EDIT: The biggest get may be Liana Tarasco, attacking midfielder who has five goals in seven appearances with the Canada U-17 national team.

Dillani does it again. Apparently this was a recruit two, get one transfer deal! Another Canadian from the FIFA U-17 World Cup. Oching started as a defensive midfielder in the second group stage game, which Canada lost to Japan. More young talent on an already salty defense...

Holy shit, did Dillani ever answer that goalkeeper question in a massive way: The Hawkeyes just landed Brazil U20 World Cup goalkeeper, Fernanda Mayrink:

Also, another Hawkeye goes pro with Rielee Fetty going to top Danish team, HB Koge.
