Tony Perkins enters the Transfer Portal

To me, when a kid plays four years at a school, then opts to move on, it’s not the same as when a kid transfers earlier in his career. So in that respect, I don’t feel Perkins’ departure stings at all. TBH, I was never expecting him to stay, and I wish him the best.
I get the same treatment. Unless you are all sunshine and lollipops, you are a Hawkeye hater and need to find a new team. That’s pretty much how it works.
We should see if Jimmy Chitwood is available , good athlete and great shooter !

Kansas actually needs a total overhaul of their roster. Self could really use his athleticism at the 2 guard.
Not even close to athletic enough. They've already got that on the current roster.
Oh cmon. He was 2nd team All Big Ten. He’s not a backup at another Power 5 school. He’s powerful and athletic. With the right coaching on defense he would be a dog. Fran just let him freelance and this season he just looked for steals. Domask from Southern Illinois became a 1st team all conference player at Illinois. Perkins has plenty of value in the portal.

And while it sounds kind of greedy, he had largely hit his ceiling this year so would love to see either Dix play a bigger role and/or plug in a portal guy with better shooting skills (than Perkins)

Surefire NBA guys are not in the portal. Tony will be highly coveted in portal market.

When I went to the msu/iowa game at Carver last year he seemed more into funkin and jivin to the music that was playing than thinking about bb

Good luck to Perk going forward. He gave 4 years to Iowa basketball and was a good player for the team.

Good points. I may have rationalized a bit. We certainly need all the athleticism and toughness we can get. Our overall roster is one of the weakest we have had in a while.

I don't think it will be Lickliter bad but we only have 10 scholarship players on the roster right now; 2 of the 10 are guards (Harding and Dix).
Mulvey is not much of an option; not sure if Brauns is, either.
You can have 13 on scholarship; as of now, we have 3 open scholarships.

6'11" C Riley Mulvey (***) -- on Nov 13, 2023 it was announced that Riley was redshirting the 2023-2024 season. He was originally scheduled to graduate in 2025.
Seniors: 2 players
6'7" F Payton Sandfort
6'9" F/C Even Brauns--a Belmont transfer and Iowa City (IC West High School) native. On May 8, 2023, Iowa officially announced that Even had signed with the Hawks. He had 2 years eligibility remaining at Iowa.
Theres 2 guards left on the team.
That's about 5 short of what a normal coach would want.
Brauns and Riley are just warm bodies honestly.

Well even going into next year he had to figure. He’d only have 3 guards on the roster. Harding, Bowen, and Dix. Not signing one or two in the fall was dumb.
I wish a rebuilding year had taken place.
This was Fran playing his upperclassman as many minutes as he possibly could.
Now 3 of the 4 are gone and we get a rebuilding year next year.

Agree, a rebuilding year isn't just another name for missing the tournament.
You have to actually build something for the future.
