I get the same treatment. Unless you are all sunshine and lollipops, you are a Hawkeye hater and need to find a new team. That’s pretty much how it works. What skillset does Tony bring to a Power 5 blue blood or top 25 team?
Defensive intensity as a lock down defender? Nope
3 point specialist? Nope
Drive and dish player? not really
Not really a true pg & not skilled enough shooter for a 2 guard. He's probably a backup & I cannot believe he'd command $300K. He has aspirations to be a pro, maybe he needs to go to a mid major where he can free wheel and ball out. Be the leading scorer in the MAC. IDK, but I don't see him being a star on any Power 5 team. Yeah a 2nd team Big10 player on a middle of the pack team on a weak year for Big10.
Many on here probably think I'm a Hawkeye hater as I criticize many of our players. Much of this is due to some over exuberance from fans on here who are not objective. I try to be the counterbalance & get crucified for calling out flaws in some players games. I won't apologize. No one is perfect, but you can make up for lack of skills with hustle and intensity. I didn't see this from PMac, Tony Perkins, Krikke. I blame coaching for the lack of defensive skills & poor rotations. But the pure lack of focus and hustle speaks to the heart of some of these players.
Freeman, Payton & Dix played hard. Brock played hard, but he's undersized and needs some better focus at times. The three seniors mentioned above should have been better leaders in the regards of playing harder. I didn't see many bodies on the floor after loose balls from these guys this year. Hoping Fran has success in the portal replace the mediocrity we seen this year.
We should see if Jimmy Chitwood is available , good athlete and great shooter !Athletic guards is the issue. It doesn't have to go any further than that.
I want the fast twitch 210 pound 6'4" 2 guard who is paired with a 6'2" 190 1 guard of similar fast twitch quickness and leaping ability. I don't care what their origins are. As long as there are no major behavioral issues, get that type of player wherever they can be found.
We have more crackers than a Saltines factory. Embarrassing basketball program.Yeah. Iowa was already white AF, and now two black players are out. Now that I think about it, it pretty much has been only black players transferring as of late. Other than CJF, what white player of note has left? I can’t remember.
@curtisj157, we are seriously getting very close to that swim team you like to talk about.
Kansas actually needs a total overhaul of their roster. Self could really use his athleticism at the 2 guard. Not many outside of the bluebloods can afford to pay that to ONE player.
I don't think Kansas or Kentucky needs him ...perhaps North Carolina will need a one-and-done bridge guard in a rebuilding year. I could also see deep pocket programs like Texas, Michigan and Oregon reaching out.
Not even close to athletic enough. They've already got that on the current roster. We should see if Jimmy Chitwood is available , good athlete and great shooter !
Oh cmon. He was 2nd team All Big Ten. He’s not a backup at another Power 5 school. He’s powerful and athletic. With the right coaching on defense he would be a dog. Fran just let him freelance and this season he just looked for steals. Domask from Southern Illinois became a 1st team all conference player at Illinois. Perkins has plenty of value in the portal.I get the same treatment. Unless you are all sunshine and lollipops, you are a Hawkeye hater and need to find a new team. That’s pretty much how it works.

wow, what were his stats this year?
Dude, you crack me up every time. 😂We have more crackers than a Saltines factory. Embarrassing basketball program.

It’s sad, too, because my 67 year old dad, who is a casual basketball fan, said to me the other night “Iowa has too many white guys. They need a lot more ‘brothers’ on the team.”We have more crackers than a Saltines factory. Embarrassing basketball program.

To me, when a kid plays four years at a school, then opts to move on, it’s not the same as when a kid transfers earlier in his career. So in that respect, I don’t feel Perkins’ departure stings at all. TBH, I was never expecting him to stay, and I wish him the best.

If my dad is pointing that out, imagine what people who actually follow college basketball are saying.
When I went to the msu/iowa game at Carver last year he seemed more into funkin and jivin to the music that was playing than thinking about bb
From the MTSU website:
It's like when Hawks miss on a recruit" we didn't want him anyway" syndrome.
The analyst on BTN had Tony as one of his top 5 players in the league at the end of Feb.
He messed up his wrist late in the wisky win and tailed off.
He was the only hawk on an all- conference team and was clearly our best overall player over the course of the whole season.
Surefire NBA guys are not in the portal. Tony will be highly coveted in portal market.
I am frustrated that Iowa cannot even compete to keep our own players.
What are our chances of landing good transfers with minimal NIL?
Right now I am as discouraged as I have been looking to next season as when lick was in charge.
That statement is . . . . . weird.
That statement is . . . . . weird.
Mentions the team doctor by name but not Fran.
“I would like to thank my freshman year RA, and the barista at coralville Starbucks”no mention of the fans, either....

Mind boggling is all I can say wow
You're looking too much into thisThat statement is . . . . . weird.
Mentions the team trainer by name but not Fran.
Seems normal to what I've seen the last 14 years. So, for now, the incoming team (including non-scholarship) consists of 12 white guys out of 14. Kind of bizarre to think about that.
Theres 2 guards left on the team. This is best for everyone. He's been fun to watch but now it's time to move on. Let's seem what the younger guys can do.
Brauns and Riley are just warm bodies honestly.I don't think it will be Lickliter bad but we only have 10 scholarship players on the roster right now; 2 of the 10 are guards (Harding and Dix).
Mulvey is not much of an option; not sure if Brauns is, either.
You can have 13 on scholarship; as of now, we have 3 open scholarships.
Current 2024-2025 Roster:
Freshmen: 2 players
6'7" PF Cooper Koch
6'8" PF Chris Tadjo
Sophomores: 4 players
6'10" C Owen Freeman
6'0" PG Brock Harding
6'7" PF Pryce Sandfort
6'8" PF Ladji Dembele
Juniors : 2 players
6'5" SG Josh Dix
6'11" C Riley Mulvey (***) -- on Nov 13, 2023 it was announced that Riley was redshirting the 2023-2024 season. He was originally scheduled to graduate in 2025.
Seniors: 2 players
6'7" F Payton Sandfort
6'9" F/C Even Brauns--a Belmont transfer and Iowa City (IC West High School) native. On May 8, 2023, Iowa officially announced that Even had signed with the Hawks. He had 2 years eligibility remaining at Iowa.
you're crazy. Not a good enough scorer to play the 2 guard & not a lock down defender. Not focused & takes off too many plays / games.
Well even going into next year he had to figure. He’d only have 3 guards on the roster. Harding, Bowen, and Dix. Not signing one or two in the fall was dumb.Theres 2 guards left on the team.
That's about 5 short of what a normal coach would want.
I wish a rebuilding year had taken place.Brock Harding better begin preparing to play a ton of minutes next season.
I gave Fran a B- this year as a rebuilding season
That kind of pass is over now.
Officially Fran is on the clock.
Next year..pass/fail test is making the NCAA tourney, period.
As of right now this roster needs more talent to achieve that, imo.
Agree, a rebuilding year isn't just another name for missing the tournament. How does this statement make any sense. Last year Iowa lost 4 players including Ulis who was mediocre and Connor who almost everyone on this board felt was crap at best and shouldn't have played at all.
This year he is losing Tony, who apparently most people feel was a good player, Pat McCaffrey whom nobody liked but outplayed Tony on Sunday, Ben Krikke who scored at the same pace as Tony, Evan Braun, Desante Bowen and possibly Payton Sandfort. Just saying the statement about rebuilding last year and not this year makes almost no sense.
