Transfer Portal - new opportunity or disaster??

The transfer portal can be a great opportunity of a young college athlete to leave a program that is buried on the depth chart to go to a school and get a fresh start. But it can be big trouble for the kids that don't find a landing spot. Can you imagine a young kid that gives up a 100k scholarship plus future earnings? Has this happened to any Iowa players where they entered the transfer portal and were not picked up? Can you imagine what they young kid and the parents think in retrospect.

I wouldn’t think many kids voluntarily enter the portal without sending out some feelers to other schools, but maybe I’m wrong.
