Trump wants 50% tariffs

The tariff threats are insane.
Trump should have taken the small negotiating win that he had in the first Tariff showdown.

Now he's like a 2 year old with with a new toy. Smashing into everything.

He'll eventually give into pressure from big business, but how much damage will already be done? And what will be gained?

Trade partners are going to be gun shy for awhile and the only thing we gained was the initial boarder concessions (no idea how long that lasts either).

3. Because no previous politician was willing to rock the boat,.. Much easier to just give in to unfair trade practices imposed on the US...
Are you still on the Trump wagon? Holy shit, I'd thought you'd wise up by now. What could the man do to possibly lose your support at this point? There has been a myriad of illogical moves the asshole has taken and all of them have made the US weaker.

What would it take for the other branches of govt to read the writing on the wall and try to put a stop to this? If they are seeing this annex Canada, authoritarian POS for what heis or at least what he could be doing, are they going to stop it or be complicit? Surely the Dems had a backup plan? Let it burn and take over the cleanup?

He gave it a bit more juice with unnecessary tax cuts, but that was it. Meanwhile, he exploded the deficit.
Maybe but the vast majority of the cuts went to the very top who are far less likely to spend it on consumer goods which WOULD give a bump. I suspect the vast majority of that money went to make more money.

This. Trump did nothing to affect the economy - until he bungled Covid. He rode the already rising indicators and did not one thing to change their trajectories.
Trump did bully the Federal Reserve to keep interest rate down. The interest rates should have been raised during Obama's second term.

Finally — a president looking out for working class, every day Americans. This is refreshing to see.

What cards? What are we even trying to accomplish here? Do you honestly think it’s even possible Canada would become the 51st state?
8% of Minnesota is 464,000 people (so, say a city the size of Madison)
6% of Michigan is 608,000 people (so, say a city the size of Oklahoma City)
1% of New York is 208,000 people (so, say a city the size of Salt Lake City)

I'm sure no one would even notice!
