Tyreke Locure

We all recently found out that Carton is ONLY 5-10 1/2 w/o shoes, although his standing reach is that of someone around 6-3/4. PMac, at 6-7 w/o shoes has a 6-6 wing span...same as Carton. Crazy arm length, which is huge, but still 5-10 1/2. If it's not something more off the court related, not sure what he's doing wrong to not have more offers that he does.

Wut?

Not sure what you're wutting, the measurements are from 2018 U18 basketball training camp.

Height in shoes is the listed height on CBB and NBA rosters, let alone lower levels of bball. If Locure is listed unofficially at 5-9, he's probably 5-7 or even 5-6 w/o shoes. Either way, wingspan and standing reach are better measurements and obviously measurements alone don't make a bball player. Also worth noting that Carton is way stronger than Locure from what I've seen. I'll be interested in how high Locure can raise his profile

I've been thinking strength is a very likely reason why he hasn't been recruited more. Ulis and Lewis Jackson were both pretty stronger for smaller guys...maybe that is the big difference.
Without knowing him, I would be hesitant to question attitude.

At this point I would assume size and effort/maturity are the big knocks against Locure. He certainly has the athleticism and skills to play at the Big Ten level.

Our incoming sophomore team played against North's JV (mostly juniors and seniors to be) this last weekend and they are shooters first and foremost, they really like to fast-break you off misses and everyone launches 3s, which can work if you're making a decent percentage (which they did against us) but they have no inside game to speak of and their defense is mostly reach ins and double teaming ball handlers.

What concerned me about North was the constant discord between their players and between the players and their own coach that day. I thought a fight was going to break out on their bench and during their timeouts. Very undisciplined and everyone seemed to be more concerned with filling their personal stat sheet. Granted, it was a one game scrimmage but if that attitude is a reflection of the basketball culture at North, they have a lot of work to do.

Unfortunately, that is what I have heard from numerous people. Not a good thing whether you are talking basketball or school, or anything. Even further, that is a knock on Tyreke whether it is justified or not. Coaches are going to judge on what they see from their environment. That is simply human nature, right or wrong.

Yes. He has shown PLENTY. IMHO he has the strengths at PG that we currently do not have. That is why it is hard for some of us to let this go.

Fran better land Carton...

I love the kids skill set but if the general feeling out there is true, there's nothing worse than having a selfish guy that the other players cant stand as your main ballhandler.

If you have a team yelling at each other on the sidelines that's a good indication that their best player doesn't get it.

Committed to South Alabama in case anyone was curious. Interesting he didn’t hold out for bigger offers, especially with Minnesota hanging around.

I guess he could still flip.

He is not a power five recruit at this time. That is why Iowa, Iowa State, UNI and the rest of schools never offered. Never understood why this forum was wanting him so bad when real talent evaluators were not high on him either.

I think the logic was that he’s a local kid who, with Iowa’s luck, would end up at Drake or UNI some day and rip Iowa apart because that’s just how it is with Iowa.

He also has the speed and ball handling from the PG position we’ve missed for a long time.

However, I’ve seen him play and besides his size, his biggest problem seems to be between the ears. So not surprising the bigger offers haven’t come.

I found out really quick in life that if a kid I thought was awesome wasn’t being recruited by UNI or Drake even. He’s not as good as I thought he was.

Locure is a African American which automatically makes his better than anyone Fran has on the roster.

Bohannon was a 4* PG by ESPN
Connor was a 4* PG by Rivals and a 4* top 100 PG by ESPN.
both are white so both are to slow and not good enough to play in the BT,

the same is being used against 4* C Garza as he to is white and is not athletic enough to play in the BT in spite of him being 3rd on the team in scoring, 2nd in rebounding and led the team in blocked shots.

Wow, and I thought Nebraska fans were illiterate.

If you're going to put that much effort into trying to be funny and satirical, at least have a general understanding of basic grammar and spelling.

not being sarcastic. every white player that has been signed is a waste of a schollarship. as for the star rankings they can all be verified.

not hardly just look at most of these post questioning the ability of these players,

Bonannon is not a pg [why] 4* PG by ESPN
Connor can't play at the BT Level [why] 4* ESPN top 100 PG.
Garza is to slow and hurts this team [why] 4* ESPN top 100 C

yet to see a 4* player that can't play in the BT.
JBo back to back seasons of 170+ assists and 85+ made 3's. top 10 in assists and made 3's in Iowa's history.

Garza as a FR LED the team in blocks with 32, 2nd in rebounding and 3rd in scoring, yeah he really hurt this team. and he can shoot the 3.

Nunge while not a 4* was runnerup in the voting for Indiana Mr. BB and was a 2 time 1st Teamer in Indiana' largest class. avg'd 15.7 mpg and was 2nd in blocks with 25, 3rd in steals with 21. 5th in scoring.

not even Uthoff played until he was a RSSO. because he RS'd at Wisconsin.

Nunge is taller and weighs more as a FR than Uthoff, he can rebound block shots, have steals and shoot the 3

4-14

My dude... we went 4-14 in the BT last year. We clearly need more quickness on the perimeter and in our overall lineup. We got torched on defensive rotations - wide open 3s and layups. On offense, we lacked an on-ball creator. Someone to break down the defense so we can spot up JBo and Weiskamp and Moss for wide-open looks.

It's not a black/white thing at all. Locure may have had his issues, and he might not have been a defensive savior, but quickness isn't one of them.

the top 6 scorers/players were these
SO Cook
SO Bohannon
SO PEMSL
SO Moss
FR Garza
FR Nunge
only Cook was a top 40 by ESPN. still keep looking for these 5* 1 n done players in the rest of the group.

as I have stated before when Lestor, Steve Waite, Vince Brooken and Special k were SO's they went 5-13 in the BT, then as JR's they went 13-5 and won a share of the BT. then as SR's they went to the FF.

the year before Millers last team went undefeated and won the BT Championship that team only won 4 games, funny how young team do that.

this upcoming season these will be the upper classmen
RSSR Baer [hopefully as the 6th man he returns rejuvinated]
JR Cook
JR Bohannon
RSJR Moss
JR Pemsl [now fully healthy going into his JR year]
JR Kriener
JR Dailey [with a full year under his belt]

under classmen
SO Garza
SO Nunge
RSFR Connor
FR Wieskamp
FR Fredrick.

when Gesell and Woodbury were FR and SO they went 9-9 in BT play but at least the had a couple SR's and JR's to lead the way
then has JR's and SR's they went 12-6 and finished T-3rd. the only 4* player by ESPN that was added was Uthoff.

rather than complaining look at what returns
the top 6 scores, the top 5 in rebounding, the top 5 in blocks and the top 5 in steals 27, 22,22,21 and 21. now its a matter of playing team defense.

another thought this is what earned a healthy Baer that 5th MOY
23.8 MPG leading the team in rebound 5.8 rpg, 1.4 spg [48], 1st in blocks 1.7 [43] and 5th in scoring 7.5 ppg
44.8 % from the field, 39.7% from now if can do this year what he did as a SO the defense will be improved by a lot.

the biggest thing that he should bring is that SR leadership that last years team didn't have. that's what Jok brought when these players were FR.
