Uhl/Wagner/Baer

I just could never understand Oglesby getting so many minutes...and I can't understand at all why Ellingson is in there...with other options available that at least "can" do something productive from time to time. We will see...perhaps he has talents that he displays in practice...

Yeah, i hate to bust on the kid, but i have always said i just don't think he is D1 material. Honestly, how is he different than some of the kids on Wartburg's or Upper Iowa's roster?

What does he bring? If he is just not crazy deadly (which he is FAR from) from 3 point range, then answer is absolutely nothing.

I think he gets phased out soon. Might be the scholarship that opens up. I just think this is the wrong level of competition for him.

I know, bash me, and I'm sorry. Just one man's opinion I guess, and that is all it is. He would be a good player for Grinnell and that style of basketball I think.
You have said Woody isn't D1. You have said MG isn't Big Ten material. You have said a lot of stuff and it normally about as accurate as the weatherman.

No need to rag on Ellingson. He has looked poised most of the time he has played, and I think he can be a solid 10-15 min shooter off the bench. Hawks are 5-0, so why complain...

In the past couple of years, there have been a bunch of posters who have suggested that Mike and Adam are subpar players. Those posters should know who they are.

I don't think many people said MG and Woodie were "sub-par." I think the expectations were high for them with their AAU backgrounds and star ratings. Both are competent, and can play at a high level. They both are much better this year because there is more talent on the court. Neither one of them have the ability to carry a team for extended periods of time with their scoring. They aren't that type of talent. But team players, hard workers, competent, experienced...yes, and yes. They both know what their roles are...and seem much more at ease knowing they aren't needed as "go-to" guys for scoring...Jok, and Uthoff are those guys.

Wagner is the team's leading rebounder per 40 minutes. He also made a couple really tough lay-ins yesterday He showed he can be more than just a garbage man with those, it wasn't just power and jumping, but switching hands and spinning the ball off the glass. If he can play a lot of minutes without getting in foul trouble, he will be something special as an upper classman.

Agree...that one particular move Wagner made, and how he flicked it in the hoop, short range, was a demonstration of some real talent.

Can you please provide a link as to when I said those things? Thanks....

LOL You take a thread about Uhl, Wagner, and Baer and turn it into a b!$hing fest. Just classic.

Subpar was being nice. There have been multiple threads where you and others have repeatedly been extremely critical of Iowa's PG play, and Mike Gesell in particular. Even now, the most you are willing to give Mike is "competent". It is hard to be a good PG, if you don't have people around you, who can put the ball in the basket. If the vote were today, Mike would probably be third-team all-B1G. He has almost a 4:1 assist-to-turnover ratio, is an excellent defensive player, and is clearly one of the leaders on this team. He is more than holding his own against some of the top PGs in the country. Yesterday was another example.

Mike is not Isaiah Thomas or Ronnie Lester, but he is a damn good point guard, who has been instrumental in the resurgence of Iowa basketball over the past few years. I give you credit for at least admitting that your past criticism was too extreme. Others will be back as soon as Iowa loses a game.

I don't have time to talk about Woody. Competent might be more appropriate for him, but many fans don't seem to realize that basketball is played on both ends of the court. Woody is more than just a "competent" low post defender.

I think at this point Baer is going to start stealing minutes from Ellingson. He is shooting better, rebounds better and handles the ball just as well or better. I wouldn't give up on Ellingson though. I think he is has a decent midrange game and is more athletic than Ogelsby. Lots of people hated on Marble his freshman season.

I am extremely impressed by Wagners ability to finish with contact. He is our next Reggie Evans.

Because loyalty is a foreign concept to you.

Loyalty can be a strong trait in coaching...or it can get your fired. I am not expert...but that is the way it seems to me. Loyalty a foreign concept...same college, no jumping...same job 30 years, same wife...I think I am pretty loyal. I am also a pretty faithful friend, especially when they are down and out and not wanted by anyone...friends have said that about me. There you have it...although I am sure you know much more about me by "interacting" on a sports board. Just stop...

I have been critical of MG in the past...now he is doing well, better than competent. Good for him. He is not an elite talent...I would like Iowa to have elite talent at the PG spot. Is that wrong to wish for? Just stop...

In the past MG has played without confidence at times, with crazy drives to the basket (right hand only) into triple coverage. He doesn't do that as much now...thus, I am less critical. Players can improve...he has, plus he has some better players to play with. He had a very good game vs Mich...and will have more, along with some clunkers I would guess. He is getting a lot more out of his talent this year, more efficient, feels less of a need to be "the" scorer, which isn't his talent or strength. He also has avoided some of the PGs that often give him trouble...elite type PGs... Now, he has better teammates to protect him from this upper level talent... I am cheering for MG, Sapp and Woodie...they have stuck it out, improved, gotten the most out of who they are, and seem to be good guys, and teammates...if they can keep this historical season going, well, what better way to be remembered. There you have it...

Fran definitely sees a future in him and always mentions him along with Baer, Uhl and Wagner when he talks about the bench contributions. Court presence and awareness is huge and having his foot on the out of bounds line yesterday was inexcusable. I do trust Fran however, but his minutes will decline if his awareness level doesn't increase.

About to be a top 10 team and undefeated in conference play and some people are worried about somebody's minutes on the court. Between crap like this and not having the students support the team it would be maddening to coach at Iowa at times.

of course you don't understand why Fran brings him in ..you were the one calling for Woody & Gesell to bench themselves in the Purdue game...so having a understanding why some redshirt freshman struggle in B1G games while calling for 2 seniors to bench themselves is all that really needs to be said.

so now you can reply ... how much you would like to help me. ;) help me???

OH by the way BE did not play him in the 2nd half ... Fran knows what he is doing...one thing is for sure he isn't going to add to the kids' lack of confidence.

Bob...you are like a Bobber...are underwater, thinking, planning, competing with other posters...you always pop up...waiting for DanL to give you a like after your wit is displayed. Just stop...

I noted in an earlier post that BE only played 2 minutes...read more, think less, you will get smarter...

Hansen really relies on the "likes" option on here. It gives him great happiness when someone likes one of his posts.

Broke your rules Bob, you are not suppose to talk to me.

I was trying to be nice instead of being miserable...isn't that what you called me? Or doesn't that count as calling someone out?

You know you have some good points about BE...course its easy for all of us to post about a player who is struggling..not difficult to do that...if you would just control your emotions...I mean honestly now..you don't think posting he is no better than a D2 is a little over the top?

This why you received multiple replies...

I appreciate your apology for hijacking the thread..kudos to you...we got really good play from 8 guys yesterday...now hopefully we can add a 9th.

Bob likes to give likes and to get likes...he is likable, and was a good boy growing up, and the teachers liked him...and he liked that and liked the teachers back...then he grew up and starting posting on rivals...and he doesn't like that.

and what does this have to do with Iowa Basketball? you & your friend are showing the entire HR community including the mods what you are here for...keep it up. :)

Dan...take your fiber pills and go to bed...and don't drink too much water into the night.

Likes are given to certain posts about Iowa BB...that seems connected...not?

What friend are you referring to? Why don't you just name people...why the mystery..."You know who he is but I won't name him."

Why the jibberish...?

If the entire HR community reads what I write...well, that would be very sad, indeed. Not?
