I'm going to show my age here, but a comparable prior Hawkeye player to Ellingson would be Jason Bauer (who played in the late 90's for Dr Tom's teams). I believe an injury to a starter allowed Bauer to get some extra playing time one year and he was a serviceable replacement. That is kind of how I view Ellingson (at this point in his career). That is, play smart and hit the occasional open 3-pointer.
