Uhl

Dom U has only 14 rebounds in 90 minutes. By comparison, Wags has 17 in only 55 minutes. Baer and Jones are getting more boards per minute.

The kid is playing entirely at 4/5 and is the primary reserve at both positions. He needs to play tougher and smarter inside.

Jones and Baer also appear to be progressing faster, which is great for the reputation of Iowa HS ball. On the other hand, Dom's still young, couple years younger than Jones, and has flashed a nice upside. Dom is now playing important minutes and there's some adjustment from his minimal and mostly garbage time last season and the minutes he's playing this season.

Too often, Uhl reminds me of interviews I've seen with Jimi Hendrix. That laid-back attitude is fine for a musician, but I like my basketball players to perform with a little more fire.

good observation Ronman...Uhl is definitely laid back on the court, perhaps too much. He also seems to be disinterested and emotionless at times on the court which is a concern and could point towards unhappiness. Whether that is because of classes, his role on the team, a girl, who knows? But it sure appears like he isn't all in at this point.

I've read a lot of comments about Uhl in this thread, and I'm not sure why so many are convinced Uhl is or has the skills to play the 3 on a consistent basis? Uhl has a surprisingly good shooting percentage from 3 after 6 games, but i would be very surprised if that percentage remained above 30% by the time the season ends. Also, I think he struggles to defend on the wing, especially after bulking up during the off-season.

I think Uhl is the victim of Fran not being able to recruit a true center as Woodys backup the past two seasons. As a result, Uhl was forced to bulk up and is acting as Woody's backup at the 5 for the most part, that to me is a disservice to Dom and probably not part of the sales pitch he received when deciding to come to Iowa. I thought Uhl had a great chance to replace White at the 4, playing alongside Woody and Uthoff, which would make for a nice frontline. Unfortunately, I think Fran is forced to bring Uhl off the bench since we don't have anyone else to backup Woody. We are guard/wing heavy this year which seems unfortunate and perhaps points towards Fran missing on the recruiting trail. I think ideally he would have liked to have a freshman post that is more suited for the 5 that Uhl so he could play and learn behind Woody.
