Just like Big Tens. Will Brands realize that change needs to happen and make the move. Haven't had a heavier weight guy will since Borshell. If get it this year, it will be from a 1 year hired gun. Nebby is now kicking Iowa butt.

MAN!!! Give it a rest!!! Currently, if anything, I would say we are maybe doing BETTER then expected!

PARCO, who obviously hurt something? is really the only one you have who isn't where you would expect. TODAY is another B1G day that will eventually tell the story as we come to the end. Let us hope it turns out REAL well!!!

Here is the deal.. outside of the injuries they are doing what they are supposed to. And PK got an upset.

For almost 10 years after Cael went to PSU Tom REFUSED to change most of his philosophies which set up the first couple 4 title runs. When he finally figured out what he had to do, he put together what should have been 2 national title teams. Now he has run the program the furthest into the ground it has been. If Iowa finishes 5th again.. yikes. Pray Angelo, Keuter, Bo, etc etc save Iowa Wrestling.

Are we really underperforming?
Cruz was expected to go 0-2
Ayala is in quarters
Parco tore his knee up in 1st period of match and MFF is that underperforming?
Teemer was seeded to not place
Caliendo is in quarters
Kennedy is in quarters (ahead of seed)
Arnold was seeded to lose rd 2
Buchanan in quarters
Kueter in quarters

It’s too early to say underperforming. Really except for Parco getting injured we are on par

Brands better get the lineup right next, 10 best guys for the post season. The only disappointment is Teemer who for whatever reason stopped caring and took the pay day. It’s pathetic on his part.

Alt take- Iowa has been by far the second best program during PSU's dominance, and PSU has more often than not had vastly superior recruits. When Iowa had the better wrestlers (2 years) they won (or would have won, due to Covid). tOSU looked for a while like they might surpass Iowa, and Michigan had a good team for a minute. OSU looks to be a credible threat, but that is really about all that has changed.

If there is something TnT can change to keep wrestlers healthy, they deserve any heat they get for not doing it (no idea if there is, or its just a luck thing. Teemer had a history, and the hamstring and Parco's knee (and Marinellis shoulder) all seem pretty fluky)

Even If Iowa does finish 5th again this year, next year they will very likely be the #2 (at worst 3) ranked team going into the season, with at least 6 top 5 guys. (Wrestlestate has Angelo at 197, which I can't shake the feeling as that is Iowa best lineup top to bottom; it would really suck to see PK spend his final year at OSU or tOSU)

Looking at the brackets we could absolutely finish 6th or worse. Penn State, Ok State and Nebraska are gone and we won't catch any of the 3, so 4th is our ceiling. There are 6 teams that could pass us if we don't wrestle well the next 2 days.

I didn't go into this tournament thinking we would come out on top. We have 5 in quarters and a solid shot at 3 in finals. It's Friday morning dude and you're already packing it in. Keep it negative bro.

Bud you need to research who was seeded what and expected to win the matches. You’re off on the under performances. Injuries have not been good to us for sure. My concern is what needs to change on our conditioning and how much live wrestling we are putting our guys through in between competitions. I think the brands got to transition away from the “ out condition you theory “. Wrestling has evolved to a different style with all the match breaks taken anymore. Our guys are totally beat to shit.

It's hard to picture both Kennedy and Arnold being in IC next season.

Are we really underperforming?
Cruz was expected to go 0-2
He was seeded 5th at Big Tens and has only spiraled downhill down the stretch.
Ayala is in quarters
Taking care of business so far. Good.
Parco tore his knee up in 1st period of match and MFF is that underperforming?
He had basically lost the match BEFORE he hurt his knee. This is coming off the TF from Lovett at Bigs.
Teemer was seeded to not place
No comment. He is hurt.
Caliendo is in quarters
Looking awesome.
Kennedy is in quarters (ahead of seed)
Toss up match and he got the W. He is better than his seeding. He just had a short mid season funk that hurt his seeding.
Arnold was seeded to lose rd 2
Toss up match on paper. He was ranked about 8th most of season and struggled down the stretch.
Buchanan in quarters
Got sloppy and almost got stuck. He is still wrestling great.
Kueter in quarters

It’s too early to say underperforming. Really except for Parco getting injured we are on par
Kueter is the real exception.

Fact still remains - Iowa hasn't had an upper weight champion in a VERY LONG TIME. Buchannon may win; however, he was fully developed before coming to Iowa. Is our upper weight coaching getting the job done?

I believe you dropped these:

Comparing how we are performing vs expected based on seeding coming into the tournament misses a big part of the equation. Why do we have a team with only 5 guys seeded to AA and only 3 guys seeded to finish top 3? Only 2 of those 5 were recruited directly. If we end up wrestling to expectations when we don't have realistically great expectations for success to start with did we accomplishing anything in the big picture?

People work very hard to not understand this very obvious fact. Well said.

When an Iowa Hawkeye 125 pounder is “expected” to go 0-2 in March, yes that’s underperforming.

No changes will be made and we will continue to fight for 6th-10th. We should be happy about that because TnT deserves to coach as long as they want............

I am very positive now!! Iowa wrestling is still a powerhouse even if none of the factors really show that this year....or last year.

Honest question. How many times has Iowa taken 6-10 under Brands? Of those how many where in the last 15 years?

By the numbers, an interesting statistical analysis.

"Everything that is counted, doesn't necessarily count. Everything that counts, isn't necessarily counted."

Can this Iowa wrestling team pass the eye-test?

maybe once??? Don't worry though my man, we got more on the way!!! Top ten finishes is the goal baby!!!

Make no mistake, I actually know the answer. The ONLY time they finished below 5th was his very first year when the transfers were all denied a year of eligibility and I believe he had a couple of guys redshirt as well. That year was 2007 and Iowa took 8th...

I think the DT experiment at OSU is interesting. Get a well known name and see what athletes you can get. Bring in Spencer as a coach?. Gable Steveson most likely wouldn’t come to Iowa City but he’s a rock star. Translated, continuing on with the same cast of coaches is not going to improve the situation.

sweet, I nailed it!! What's your prediction for this year!!

Ill take better than 8th, with loser donating to HWC or WFL .

And i'll take them to finish in top 5 again next year for the same.

Edit- I'll go ahead and say top 3 next year. only reason they shouldn't finish there is injuries; if not injured, then I'll change my tune and think maybe TnT need to go

The answer is actually ZERO in the last 15 years.

As far as finish goes, I say 4th, with a slight chance at 3rd. 1 point from Teemer/Parco is a KILLER!!!

I don't see them catching OkState and Nebraska may be possible, but its going to be quite a bit uphill to do so...

Iowa athletics' favorite time of the year.

Woefully underperforming on the national stage in March.

BAU.

Depends when you’re comparing to and how you think about injuries.

If you compare to our seeds coming in and think all injuries are just random freak accidents that coaches have zero control over, then we’re not underperforming.

But if you compare to expectations one month ago or more (or to traditional expectations for the program) and you believe coaches can have an impact on limiting injury severity and frequency, then we are WAY WAY WAY underperforming.
