UNI: Epic fail

An epic failure of Iowa proportions.

Fran has to be the happiest guy in the state of Iowa.

God didn't bless A&M.

UNI blessed A&M.

A coaching failure that will last a lifetime.

hate to say it, the coach can't throw the ball inbounds. Just like everyone said it wasn't Fran's fault @ ISU. This one is purely on the players again. Bohannon's knee injury was the difference. He couldn't take the ball out and that caused the issues.

But to be honest the "stoppage" by the officials in the NCAA is out of control. They have to limit it next year or go to a "challenge" format. Stopping every freaking play to see if its a 2/3 or whose its off of is just stupid.

If we praise uni and their coaching a lot. They choked today. No other way to put it. That was beyond Iowa being up eight vs Iowa state in the last minute. Unacctable final minute with poor coaching and in it they needed one stop in the first ot and didn't get it and the second ot they are down three and a and m doesn't foul and they take a two. Just a total all time choke job. Media and very one should be critical of Iowa basketball but they should be just as critical of that uni choke job.

Wow that sucks for UNI. I thought they had it and it all came unraveled. Freaking officials not calling the bumping under 1 minute.

I hope the NCAA looks at the stupid "Stoppage" of play to review plays. I am sorry but they gave TA&M at least 3 free time outs under 2minutes.

I have no problem with them stopping the game to get it right. What they need to do in those situations is allow no coach contact. Players stay on the floor.

I honestly don't think I could handle a Hawk collapse of those proportions in the NCAA tournament.....I've already forgotten today's beatdown... UNI fans won't soon be forgetting this bed crapping, this is a lifetime sort of memory.
It looked like they had no 'backup quarterback' for in bounds plays. I've never see a team get so lost like that. It looked like it could have been a foul when Washpun was doubled in the corner but was also good D. The and-1 on Jesperson was killer. I guess can be seen as karma for that crazy shot in the rd. of 64. Incredible ending, one of the craziest I've ever seen.

I still can't forget the collapse at ISU. So yeah this one will sting for Panther Fans. Hell their comeback can be, "at least they weren't down 34 in their game". I mean UNI just wilted down the stretch, much like Iowa @ ISU. In both games the officials swallowed their whistles and wouldn't call the little contact. You have to get tougher in those situations.

That has to be the single worst last minute collapse ever. I'm 53...don't ever remember even hearing of one worse.

This. I frigging hate the Badgers.
Incredible choke job. No other way to describe it. But they got screwed by the refs on two possessions in the final seconds. Hell, Washpun was getting DOUBLE mugged on that last throw-in, damned near knocked out of bounds.

But holy frijoles, when you have a 12 point lead with 44 seconds to play, even the frigging refs shouldn't be able to take the game away from you.

Was just thinking the same thing... a lifetime of "we had it won". I don’t know how you recover from that as a player.

Agree on all points.

That's the sort of collapse that buys all coaches within a 200 mile radius another year no questions asked and all sins forgiven.

Yep. Refs didn't help. Had chances in ot also. Needed one stop at the end of the first ot and couldn't get it and took a 2 instead of a 3 in the second ot with 25 seconds left

I don't recall ever seeing that big of a collapse in the last 30 seconds of a game in my many years of watching college BB.

True....whatever you do DON'T throw the ball away under the hoop, when falling out of bounds. Throw it down court... (I know easy to say from the couch)

But with that lead, get it in bounds and hold it and be strong. Jump ball? Who cares, you are up 12!

See I don't even like that. It takes the flow of the game away and gives the otter team a chance to set something up. You roll with it until the next stoppage. They have an "Alternate" Official sitting at the scores table who could look at that while the game is going on. It would make it run so much smoother, than what they are currently doing. Takes way to long and personally screws a team.

I'm sure A&M players were told to grab, push, whatever they had to do to get the foul called without any time coming off the clock. Unfortunately for UNI the officials were letting them get away with it.

Low iq play that if Iowa did we wouldn't hear the end of it. Uni does a lot of things that show they are well. Coaches but that last minute and the ots they looked like a poorly coached team and Jacobson deserves some heat.

14 points in 44 seconds? If A&M had kept up that scoring pace for the whole game they would have scored 763 points, which would have been a record for the modern era with the shot clock/3 point line.

As for Wiscy: still hate them, just not as much since the Troll abandoned his players in an attempt at keeping his reputation clean. Screw him and Barry.

Part of the problem UNI had was under 10 minutes to go they were using up most of the :30 clock before taking a shot to try and shorten the game.....like a football team running the ball and it simply didn't work out for them. That lead of 12 with 44 seconds to go could've possibly been larger had they run their normal offense.

Also a good lesson and disappointment that we had some guys quit today in our game. Baer's effort level was way above many others. That's why you play it all the way out at max level.

Except his reputation got worse when we find out he had affair for a long, long time and was taking her to AAu events in the summer all over the country. Cleaning up his reputation.LOL.

Bohannan was begging to come in. On one leg he could get the ball inbounds and game over. You've got to get him into the game. As a senior he'd earned it.

That said talent wise this shouldn't have been a game. UNI had a great scheme and played it to perfection save 44 seconds. They made clutch free throw after clutch free throw. Washpun totally shut their stud down until he got his 4th foul. They will live with this game the rest of their lives. I hope they remember the good times too. They are college kids and in the end it's just a game.

Yeah, that was weird. It seems everyone but the media in Madison knew what was going on. :p

Using your logic there is no reason to base a coach's pay on W/L performance. Of course that is how every contract is structured because the world isn't as dumb as you.

So did Fran say in the press conference after the ISU game, "I choked the game away." Did you see Ben Jacobsen say, "I choked the game away." Seriously most normal people will see that it was the Players not being tough.

You think this loss hurts Ben Jacobsen? If you think that, you might want to check out old Franny boy. I think he is fine personally, but losing in double OT or getting blown out by 34? I don't know which one is worse, I felt sick to my stomach watching both games. Hell I felt just as bad as I did during the 2nd half of the ISU game earlier in the year.

The same media that got thought "they got screwed" by the refs last year at Duke when okafor and Winslow were both in foul trouble early. Duke was quite a bit better than Wisconsin was. they beat Wisconsin twice i. Similar ways and have to real NBA players and Wisconsin has one below average one in Kaminsky and dekker hasn't made a basket in the NBA. Sellers not a real NBA player.

God didn't bless A&M and he didn't bless UNI last game as the A&M coach said. I don't think he sits around and decides who he wants to win basketball games. Seems he would have better things to do but maybe not. Maybe he is really into college basketball or is trying to win his bracket. How bout giving some credit to your players for not quitting rather than giving the credit to God? What a douche.

Villanova was great today. Uni gave the game away and did so many things that are signs of poor coaching in the game. If we praise Jacobson like he's a combination of Phil Jackson and Greg poppovich, then he deserves criticism when they have the biggest collapse of ncaa tournament history.

Exactly. God doesn't give a rat's azz about basketball. God's a baseball fan and a Cardinal fan in particular.

He's definitely not an Iowa fan although sometimes he likes to mess with Iowa fans by blessing us with some wins to give us false hopes.
