Help me out why is it the Iowa women can work UNI in to their schedule but the men cannot.

Iowa willing to host but not travel.

Iowa should offer to give UNI a few thousand tickets for free that they could sell to their fans.

we can quit pretending Iowa is upgrading schedule.

I actually like it and think that UNI offers a quality road game that doesnt require jumping on a plane.

As a tax payer, I like that they money stays in the state.

While Iowa would benefit, I would agree that there is more upside for UNI in a home/away schedule for them.

Based on what? Their RPI has been fine over the past decade, do you think playing Campbell is more advantageous? Even when they do beat Iowa, it isn't like they are going to out-recruit them.

The valley sucks now. Plus, iowa is already committed to a bunch of games before the season even starts. You need to have some home games in there somewhere. Northern iowa will not come to Carver without a return game. That is their decision.

We replaced UNI with Cincinnati in Chicago, dumb ass.
Lol, so for future schedules you can't replace Campbell. The valley sucks huh? Finals fours for mid majors, yeah they are absolutely terrible. Still ranking as one of the top mid-majors. Forget that Evansville just knocked off Kentucky! Don't make an ass out of yourself.

Why don’t you actually look at the RPI over the past few seasons post-Creighton and Wichita. Trust me, I am also a big northern Iowa fan so I have to deal with the shit they put on TV every week.

You certainly don't sound like a UNI fan. This year and the following the RPI will certainly be up. They have a great shot to make the tourney with Green on the court.

Here are the scheduled games for Iowa this year outside of tourney's and Big 10 auto scheduled games:

SIUE, Cincinatti, and Kennesaw State. That's it. I was kind of annoyed when they stopped playing the instate games, but quite frankly there are only so many spots on the schedule.

I am by no means arguing with you in this situation, I just find it hilarious that people try to make the point about UNI being a burden to Iowa's RPI, when recently that has certainly not been the case.

I was not talking about UNI. I was talking about the metrics of the MVC and the lack of any incentive to play those teams.

If they want to come to Iowa City that's fine. No way does Iowa need to go to cedar falls, any more so than they would to evansvillle, southern Illinois or any other mvc destination.

Just out of curiousity, how many seats did they fill with SIUE in the house? Do you think they filled more than half?

Tickets sold is the relevant number and I suspect it was more than 50% of capacity.

Again, perfectly fine to get uni on the men's schedule. Same with drake. As long as it's in Carver with no return engagement.

More than they would sell playing @UNI.

UNI is a good team and would be fine for RPI or whatever metric most years. As most have pointed out they are not nearly strong enough to warrant playing a road game in lieu of a crappy home game.

The games where Iowa visits UNI....sell out.

The games where UNI visits Iowa...sell out...plus people actually show up for a November/December game which is rare.

People including Barta are underscoring having that packed house.

UNI playing Iowa @ Carver = great game to schedule.

Beyond that, there is no reason for Iowa to go to UNI instead of scheduling a home game against a random lower RPI team.

I honestly wouldn't care if Iowa went to UNI once every 3 or 5 years (2 for 1 or 4 for 1) but completely understand why they don't want to. Has nothing to do with being afraid to play UNI and everything to do with why Barta insists Iowa keeps 7 home football games instead of giving one up for a neutral site high ranked game.

It should be about whatever makes the most money for the university. If the numbers of attendance were correct for the SIUE game then fine, but if they are selling less than half full arenas to play someone other than UNI that is just dumb.

You are confusing two different games. I agree with what you are saying but:

UNI @ Carver >>> home game against a random crappy small team
UNI @ UNI < home game against a random crappy small team

The whole situation with UNI came about with the Big 4 "tourny" and there being constant rumblings how either UNI wanted Iowa and Iowa St. to do home and homes OR the state wanting it to help UNI revenue from home games. Iowa (or Iowa St.) should not be expected to play @ UNI over a home game and they would be stupid to do so.

No upside to going to Cedar Falls. I like the decision[/QUOTE}
I remember a game at CF, where the panther mascot directed his hinder at the Iowa team and raised his tail with his hand (paw). Not even sure who was coach at the time. Never forgot or forgave them.

My dog hated that 2011 game. He still hides if any opposing team is wearing purple.

Money can be construed in multiple ways.

If Iowa hosts a non-conference game vs a crap team they have to pay to play....then sell 9000 tickets, but only 5000 show up, is that worth it?

Obviously Barta has run the numbers. At a certain point though, having people in the seats makes it worth it even if it's a home/away situation. For anything, it brings in fans that dont have season tickets...who are potential future season ticket and /or donor.

Plus doesnt the new NCAA metrics system that replaces the RPI ranking place more value on road games?

It should be about whatever makes the most money for the university. If the numbers of attendance were correct for the SIUE game then fine, but if they are selling less than half full arenas to play someone other than UNI that is just dumb.

Many non power 5/6 conferences get some fluky wins.
