And at 125 after surgery in his RS year. Leads me to believe the cut isn’t to bad and hopefully won’t be next year.
Cant wait to see how Ayala looks. Must be Schreiver in Tennessee if Ybarra is wrestling here. Ybarra will be interesting to see also.
I think you guys will like what you see from Ayala
Correct, after his RS season this year he will have 3 years left. 2023-2024 / 2024-2025 / 2025-2026
If Ayala is healthy and wrestling good, he may be our next man in this year if God forbid we need that. The other alternative would be to scrap it this year and come full force next year.
I don’t think there’s a scenario where the former would happen…. It’s 3 years of guns blazing starting next fall.
Ybarra goes down 7-4 vs. freshman Farber from UNI in a match not near as close as the score. I have no kind words at all for watching him wrestle. Absolutely pathetic effort.
Ybarra drops his first match to Farber of Uni 8-4. He gave up three takedowns, a riding time point, and a stall point.
I have no idea what he was trying to accomplish during that match. I would like to say he’s injured because his effort inspired little confidence or growth. Really, not a good showing at all.
Ayala gonna be a title contender next year. Wish he had 4 years left.

A much less than 100% Mastro and then wilted almost as bad as I’ve ever seen in the last minute. Worst part is he’s so ho hum about it. Zero fire.
Is it just me or does it feel like we have a first string and then nothing else? I don’t expect backups to beat top 25 talent but I’m thinking they should be able to beat other teams’ backups
Most weights are two deep but not much after that. But you’re right—not a lot of depth these days.
I can count 3-4 depending on whether or not you include Ayala.
I did, and considered “is going to beat most backups” as the bar which of course is a low one.
someone mentioned Ybarra being a big 133….. has he grown so much 133 is a big cut? or maybe he’s just not managing his weight because he’s not in the lineup?

Rathjen over Yant 7-3 in total control throughout. Nice win.
Jace Rhodes with a nice win over Cory Land, who was a much more highly regarded recruit.
A lot of people were high on Ybarra because he was ranked #1 at his weight and won the WHO’s #1 event in Carver. I’m pretty sure his opponent doesn’t even wrestle D1 anymore.
But if you actually watched his wrestling style, he did just enough to win. He was fast and explosive when he wanted to be, but he also did a lot of standing around. I personally thought he was boring to watch. If you don’t have that offensive mindset in high school, you’re doomed at the D1 level.
