US pausing tariffs to Mexico & Canada for a month

10,000 Mexican military on the border is just a show of good faith,... The ultimate goal of threatening tariffs won't be apparent until final negotiations with both Mexico and Canada are concluded by Rubio and team...
First step for each side in the negotiation. Mexico wasn’t going to change anything until the tariffs were real. Tariffs implemented, wait you’re serious? Okay we’ll put 10k troops on the border which helps your other primary policy. This is not the end game and Mexico has already made a concession without the U.S. giving anything. This a short term win and demonstrates to everyone that we’re willing to negotiate but tariffs will happen without concessions.

Over a month ago. Again, he said he'd lift the tariffs once Mexico balanced trade with the US. Did that happen?
Link? Surely you can find one if what you say is true right?

Why arent they there then? Are you suggesting thet Sheinbaum agreed to 10k troops on the border, that are already there, and the US somehow got played on that and missed that?

Every time Trump sends out a stupid Tweet HBOT gets a collective case of the vapors.

Can't imagine the mass psychosis if a modern day Cuban Missile Crisis rears its ugly head.

Maybe Canada can also make a fake promise about some bullshit it will never do to allow Trump to declare victory after he shit the bed.
Going to be interesting. I think they view it as an opportunity to make Trump and Red States squirm. The tariffs on Mexico was asinine but to do it on Canada was an abomination. Not sure a lot of Americans realize this. There is no border crisis and our citizens and governments are so aligned and entwined. Far more than Mexico. Canada is a ****ing NATO country and sent troops to Afghanistan after 9/11. They lost 100k men in WWI and WWII fighting with our side and 166 in Afghanistan. Our countries are so so close and this administration shit all over them.

They are there. They've been there

You're an idiot. You have no idea if you've been played or not.

I am still waiting to see the balanced trade agreement with Mexico. That's the only way Trump said he'd lift tariffs. I am also curious how they will top Fetynal from coming in. That was his other stipulation.

Are you saying it was all bluster and that there wasn't a stipulation to have balanced trade? Trump just wanted 10k troops at the border and that was good enough.

LOL. Mexico did the same thing when Biden was president. I don't recall the threat of tarrifs being the impetus for that.
Incase you actually care to read about the difference.

In January, just before U.S. President Joe Biden took office, Guatemala deployed security forces to halt a U.S.-bound caravan of migrants, and Guatemalan government officials have vowed to keep up the pressure. Honduras also deployed forces in response to a small U.S.-bound migrant caravan over Easter.

WASHINGTON, April 12 (Reuters) - Mexico has doubled its detentions of migrants with a deployment of 10,000 troops to its southern border, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said on Monday, as Washington leans on regional governments to help slow arrivals at the U.S. border.
Reuters reported in March that Mexico had launched enforcement operations for rounding up immigrants transiting illegally toward the U.S. border, and stepped up its efforts along its border with Guatemala.
Earlier, White House aide Tyler Moran said the Biden administration secured agreements with Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala to put more troops on their own borders. Moran appeared to have been referring to the March deployments.
Mexico's government said in a statement that it would maintain current troop numbers at its borders.
The Guatemalan presidency said security efforts at the border were implemented last year. When asked about Guatemala reaching an agreement with Washington on troop deployment, a spokesperson said, "there is no deal signed in this sense."Honduran defense minister Fredy Santiago Diaz said his government was weighing its options on border troop numbers.
Deploying more troops was not discussed by a recent delegation to Washington, but Honduras would take U.S. requests to curb migration into account if it did, he told local radio.

Clown. Show.
To summarize, no one can say for sure what the end game is for these tariffs. However, the concept of these results will be apparent after skillful negotiations. No one has a clue what the outcome will be, but, undoubtedly, just like Trump’s healthcare plan to replace Obamacare, it will be “something terrific.”

I can’t wait.

MAGA will say Trump is the man for getting Mexico to provide additional support at boarder within 2 days

Dems will say Mexico wins because they got Trump to quickly cave on the tariffs, something that shouldn't have occurred in the first place
The only thing that shouldn’t have occurred in the first place was a wide open border for 3+ years. Now Trump has to clean up all the messes the Biden admin left him.

Yep...now Trump has instructed Radical Right media to pump up this change as some gigantic victory.

In reality, Steven Miller never considered the blowback from the tariff talk.

Lots of people in here want the tariffs to fail. Too many people openingly rooting against the success of the nation but want any registered republican who was within 1,000 miles of DC on J6 charged with treason.

I have my doubts that they will work long term, but we now have not one but two examples of the threat of tariffs getting other countries to do what they should.

I like winning. People might not want to admit it, but if Mexico puts 10,000 troops on the border and their mission is to stop fentanyl and human trafficking… thats a big win for America and proves we could have done this ANYTIME we wanted to.

The previous administration handled things their way and got their results, and we had so many unregistered crossings we honestly don’t even know for sure just how many people crossed the border. They say now crossings are down 93%?!?!?

So we put out tariffs -

To bring back jobs to the US - they last 48 hours

Extreme backlash in the markets

Mexico states we will put a few troops on the border

Tariffs pulled back.

This is Dumb. Using tariffs is an extreme way to do business. Utilizing them for tit for tat negotiating is extreme overkill. It will take a beating on confidence in the market.
I thought he said those tariffs were to get them to do more protect the border and help stem the flow of fentanyl.
