What if someone wanted to walk on the sidewalks?Again, they could stand on the sidewalk and chant all day. When you infringe on the liberties of others, you've crossed the line.
Not sure why this is so difficult a concept for you.

Refusing to let me leave by standing my my way has one of two outcomes: either I am forced to stop trying to leave, or I have to use greater force to get you out of my way.
The crime of "assault" does not require "violence" the way you idiots are trying to define it. Simple unwanted touching (e.g., sticking your chest in my chest so that I can't get past you) is assault. Even knocking my hat off my head without actually touching me is assault. You're wrong.
Sure you do.
I'm sorry that, in your worldview, there were only two outcomes for the incident portrayed in the OP.
And we do understand the definition of assault, hell I've posted it on here enough times. Apparently you do not, nor the definition of "peaceful" nor "force", so I guess it follows that you have no idea what assault is either.
That might explain your problem. Go research. But from your dog comment it sounded like you knew all about them.Freedom riders? I know nothing about them. .

You're right. "Battery" is the correct term for what I was describing.

That didn't happen either. Stop making shit up.Refusing to let me leave by standing my my way has one of two outcomes: either I am forced to stop trying to leave, or I have to use greater force to get you out of my way.

Although that wasn't the freedom riders I was talking about, but it fits. I meant the bikers who stand in the way of the Westboro fellas. Apparently they are the Patriot Guard. But certainly the Freedom Riders fit here.
That didn't happen either. Stop making shit up.
They didn't stop them from leaving. No one touched anyone. You didn't watch the video did you? No one could watch that video and think like you. I mean you are out right making up shit. It's kind of hilarious that you are even trying to get away with this. Do you expect us to believe you in other threads now?Yes, you can scream in someone's face, but you can't stop them from leaving so you can't scream in their face anymore.
See the distinction?

WTF! Protesters now can freely use public roads? Have you repented and accepted the spirit of reason into your soul?Westboro Baptist Church conducts peaceful protests. They chant and display offensive signs. I have no problem with that sort of protest (even though I detest their message).
If the freedom riders prevent the Westboro Baptists from entering private property to harass mourners, then I don't have a problem with that.
However, if the freedom riders try to prevent the Westboro Baptists from protesting in public spaces or freely traveling on public roads or sidewalks, then I have a problem with that.

A bunch of thugs block the car. .
I think we're getting to the root. You just don't like them, so they should be carted away. Really poor showing tonight. They're in a car. They're driving down the road. A bunch of thugs block the car. They are prevented from continuing upon their lawful path. That is infringing upon their liberties. Never mind they were disrupting an official event and everyone else's day as well. They're asshats. Stop defending them.

Again, I didn't count the number of posts, but we are up to at least 2 now.
They can walk around. If you stand in the middle of the street not a lot of options for a car. What if someone wanted to walk on the sidewalks?
I got to say I was inspired to research other marches in history. Presuming the parade had properly obtained a permit? Then yes, impeding the progress of the parade was probably against the law. (I'm no lawyer, but it sounds similar to other events I read about)
The US would absolutely be better off if more people discussed, and even protested, the issues they care about. Instead they want to get their candy, hit up starbucks, and be home for reruns of the Mentalist.
Even if it wasn't a permitted parade, you can't surround people in cars and force them to sit there and listen to you. Anyone suggesting this is a remotely-acceptable form of protest isn't being honest with themselves.
Hold on partner, I was siding with you on this one. The protestors derailed a parade. Presuming the parade had a permit and they didn't? Then no, the protestors can't stop it.
And, theIowaHawk, I don't mean to upset your idea of fair play, "Ahhhh the glorious smell of freedom. Permits from the local constabulary...", but what if it were the protestors who held the permit and another group prevented them from marching?
What makes you think my position would change?
One thing I find encouraging, apparently at next years 4th of July parade when the young, terrible kid dancers stop the entire parade to do their terrible kid dance....I can come here and complain about their violent, forceful, and illegal impeding of my inherent civil liberties.
What makes you think my position would change?

No, poor showing by you. Especially you, one of the more reasonable leftites here. I am disappoint.
From my vantage, you do like the protesters - more specifically their message - so you don't want them carted away.
How did the Columbia Police disband these lawful peaceful protesters anyway, without further incident? Should be an uproar, right?
Bloody terrorists forcing people to move out of the way and destroying Liberty. The mall cop should have shot them all.So, you're the guy that started flash mobs.
