My family and I will be visiting old friends who live in Des Moines this winter. We haven't been to Des Moines in at least 5 years. What are some things we should do or see and what restaurants kick ass?

A great restaurant is Mi Patria
tasty tacos
I love Peruvian food and this looks similar. Thanks for the advice.
Been there many times. If this wasn't a family affair, I'd probably stop by again.
Spaghetti Works, Hyvee, Raising Canes, Fuddruckers.
You forgot Legends
Try gusto for pizza, very family friendly and the owner is a great guy.
Trampled by Turtles is at Wooly's in January, and I believ Will Whitmore just announced a show there for later this month. I like Flying Mango, A Dong(hehe), Mi Patria, The High Life, Waterfront and Pho 515 for food.
Legends is no longer around though.
There is higher end fare, but Centro never disappoints for Italian and it has a unique atmosphere. I like Hessen Haus for a unique German bar/pub/restaurant. I used to love Django (french) but I haven't been there since it moved. It is similar in price to centro. If you want english pub food, the fish and chips at the Royal Mile is awesome. These are all downtown Des Moinse. For pizza, I love the wig and pen in Ankeny. There are some local Italian places that people swear by like Latin King but I think they are just okay.My family and I will be visiting old friends who live in Des Moines this winter. Grumpy goat is solid.I know man, that was good food and drinks and a good place to watch games. Now most of the Legends are either Grump Goats or Draught House's/
I think that time I was in one was the Court Ave location 10 years ago.I know man, that was good food and drinks and a good place to watch games. Now most of the Legends are either Grump Goats or Draught House's/
Do they have guinea pig on the menu?I love Peruvian food and this looks similar. Thanks for the advice.
If you are ordering carry out pizza, I suggest Marcos.

Get the Vodka and Tang at the Highlife.
We go to Des Moines several times a year. Love Merle Hay Mall.
Merle Hay Mall and that stretch of Merle Hay comprise my least favorite part of the entire Des Moines metro. Congested, dirty, run down, depressing, full of strip malls. Yuck. The only redeeming thing in that entire area is flix brew house. I'd say popeyes as a semi-honorable mention but you can get that in Altoona.Umm Why exactly?
