Warner Announces Wednesday

While it would have been great to have Berge, this is the one we really need - badly. We have some great options around Berge's weight, not so much at 197. I think our chances are very good, but just an educated guess - no inside info.

Yep, Warner is a big one. Lee and Warner leading this class with Costello and Murin.. plus others would be great.

If we land him, awesome! Multiple team titles likely within the next 6 years.
If he goes elsewhere, Damn! Team titles very unlikely within the next 6 years.

Ok guys I would say its about 50/50 or maybe 60/40. I honestly thought we had a better shot at Berge but was wrong there so who knows. I am pretty sure its down to Iowa, Purdue and Fosu.

I can't emphasize how important it is that we get Mr. Warner!!! If we want to keep up with psu, fosu, and Oky. State we HAVE to get him!!!

Lets all start the mourning process together. Lets all say it together, Buckeye.
Ohiowrestling.net is quiet on the subject. Don't even see a string about Warners recruitment. Would have thought some smoke signals at least.

Well for sure he is a need but I'm not holding by breath.
I have had enough set backs lately so sure do hope he is a Hawk.

C'mon young Mr. Warner, look at all these people you could make happy!

I think Iowa and Ohio St are the only two with a real shot. He could crack the lineup pretty early for you guys. . . . But Ohio state offers some of, if not the, best heavyweight training partners In the country, with Dlagnev and Snyder.

This is my concern as well.

Show your math, I'm getting excited.
Well the math being projected out to 2019 and beyond won't be nearly as 'accurate' as if I were doing math for this season. But in general it would look something like this (obviously projecting super accurately that far ahead is impossible, as new contenders at each weight will likely emerge each year, and the landscape will likely look entirely different at the conclusion of the 2018 NCAA's.)

2019 Lineup

125 - Spencer Lee - Champ, will own the weight class for years + expect VERY high bonus rate
133 - Gavin Teasdale - High AA (1-4) (I expect Suriano will be 133 by then, then Brock, Eierman, Micic, Gross will be main competition I think + Newcomers)
141- Carter Happel/Max Murin - Hopefully AA, but hard to say, will have better idea after next season
149- Vince Turk - Hard to say, will have better idea after this season but i'd say NQ - R12/R16ish
157- Michael Kemerer- High AA (1-3) (Main competition will be SR Nolf, Smith)
165- Alex Marinelli - High AA (1-4) (Main competition will be Rogers, Lewis, Joseph, Massa + Newcomers)
174- Kaleb Young - AA, not sure what range. BoJo will be gone, epperly gone
184- Cash Wilcke - NQ, but could improve a lot between now and march 2019
197- Jacob Warner - High AA (1-3) , Will be a force right away at this weight, could own the weight class for years. (Weight is quite weak right now, and not many 'dominant' prospects waiting in the wings)
285- Sam Stoll - High AA (1-3) (Snyder, Coon, Walz etc, all gone) I expect Nevills will be competing maybe Dhesi if he gets a 6th year, and Hall from ASU will be main competition + Any newcomers.

Thats a lot of points. Could be 5-6 'potential' finalists. The ones I am most confident in are Lee, Kemerer, Warner, and Stoll. Simply due to the landscape of their weights, and who they are. Teasdale will have a very tough task at 133 his True FR year, but he will likely be up to the task. And i can't wait to see how Marinelli stacks up with the top 165's this year. Hoping for big AA performances from 141 and 174.

Stoll is the only Senior in that lineup, returning a TON of points for 2020 making a 2-peat very feasible.

Then in 2021 there will still be a lot of points available: Lee, Teasdale, Happel/Murin, Turk/Brands, Marinelli, Young, Warner. Still pretty promising IMO. From 2019-2021 at least, I expect the Hawks to put up over 100 pts all three years.

Wow Lax what a killer lineup.. what do you think the lineup will look like in 2019-2020.. looks like we would only lose stoll!

Lax,

I thought you were being facetious with your original statement where multiple national team titles hinged on Iowa landing 1 top 10 recruit (one that was beaten by another high schooler in the past year). Kind of a take on how high/low people get over these things.

Clearly, I was wrong...

I don't disagree with the lineup and this isn't against you LAX, but I am not that quite seeing the upside you do. I still see possible holes at 141,149,174,184 that I feel too many on this seeboard AA's where they aint. Too many are way over their skies on Kaleb Young for one. I like the kid, glad hes in the room and like his character but what has he ever done to make anyone think he will ever AA? Id say out of the 4 weights I mentioned that Happel and Murin have the best chance to AA given their pedigree and current talent level. I don't see it for Turk and I don't see it for Wilcke. Although I do think they will be good starters and definatly win some duals for us, they hardly shout big NCAA tourney points.

Bottom line is this staff desperately needs to land Warner and finish off this class that Spencer Lee started with a bang. In the past 6-7 years this staff has failed 90% to get that extra elite guy to hammer down the class. Only exception was Skon and that was tough to take. IMO Warner will be a pretty dominant 197. Finish this out please because you are fooling yourself if you think Kaleb Youngs of the world are going keeping pace at the NCAA's with what Cael and Tom Ryan are recruiting. Sorry to burst your bubble but I hope this staff isn't as content with some lesser kids as some on this board are.

So assuming Warner goes Ohio St. (it appears that the winds are blowing that way) what's our plan B? Do we have one?
