***** Iowa vs Oregon Game Thread*****

This season is over. They have zero chance of making the NCAA tournament and who the f cares about worthless women r not. Jan has taken a fun offensive brand to watch and turned into a lickliter coached team in a half a season

Jan is in big trouble. Luckily she's at Iowa so she's got another 14 years to figure it out
Recruiting, recruiting, recruiting. Just look at Maryland—it’s the difference-maker these days. Coaches assemble, coach, and develop players, but at the end of the day, recruiting is everything. But if you miss, it’s a huge setback. You need at least three solid players—two guards and a post—or you’re in trouble. Role players are great, but without consistent scorers, you’re toast.

Iowa needs to bring back the run-and-gun offense. Syd and Hannah thrived in that system with Caitlin—let’s push the pace, run the floor, and find open players in transition.

If we’re going to stick with a half-court offense, we need more off-ball movement—flare screens, down screens, and backdoor cuts to create open looks. Also, it’s time to ditch the lob passes—they’re just not effective. Instead, we should focus on handoffs and interior bounce passes to keep the ball moving and create better scoring opportunities inside.

One big issue I’ve noticed—when O’Grady, Hannah, or Ava get the ball in the post, they’re not looking for the open jump shooter—a huge mistake. When you collapse the defense inside, you have to kick it out to keep them scrambling. Doing this forces defenders to stay in position, which opens up even more opportunities to exploit the interior later in the possession.

At least Cade can blame bad injuries. What’s Lucy’s excuse for shooting 30% in league play? Having more turnovers than points today. She’s awful
Olsen is equally awful at passing vision and the physical execution of the passes. She is the worst on the team at passing IMO and their are a number of shit passers on the team. Feuerback is right behind her.

Theyb all stand around a lot and look like they do not know what to do. Passing is like they go effing blind about half the time. Agreed several lousy passers on the floor. They all seem to panic with the ball.

Every game, so many passes into someone who has nowhere to go, so many lazy passes. So many passes outside of AOG ability to move or jump more than an inch. Worse shooting percentage from two feet than CC from 35 feet. 8000 moving screens.
Bingo on the passes. Feuerback tried to make a bounce pass to AOG from 2 feet away out at the 3 point line at one point.

I watched 3 quarters and then skipped ahead to confirm they pissed it away.

Big keys to success in basketball are shooting, dribbling, passing and good basketball IQ. This team is poor at all of those things.

Jensen needs to make some tough decisions because the status quo is not working. This team needs people who can handle the ball and put it through the net. All recruiting moving forward better be geared towards players who can move, dribble and score including off the dribble. Deal is what we need. Guyton will be good and Ava will be good. Stremlow is a role player at best. Teagen seems completely lost. She evidently could score in highschool but seems a step behind all the time. I'm honestly not convinced Houston is going to give us much. They need at least another 4 recruits that can run, dribble and shoot.

Jan and the team are obviously struggling right now. I thought they would be doing better than they are.

I realize fans are impatient and expect great results immediately, but let’s not give up on them so soon. I trust Jan will get things figured out, but it may take another year or two.

Don't have the time to check this out right now, but this can't possibly be good. Having a current players Dad on doing a critique of the team just seems like a REALLY bad idea.

Had same thought, but AJ Guyton is pretty level-headed and measured about things--knowledgeable. He was a player so he's not nearly the same as an average player-parent. It played out really well, and I hope he does it again at some point.

I would agree with @citizenHawk on this. I believe a lot of his responses are coming from a player perspective. Of course he's going to have some bias towards his daughter. However, he does critique his daughter and it's not all rah, rah. His response on what he thought of his daughter being called out by Jan as a leader as a frosh is exactly one the level-headed responses we're talking about as a player, not a parent.

Plus, Ka$h seems to be the type of person who would call him out or anyone on the show if she disagrees with them.

He was fine, nothing controversial.

Haven't had the chance yet, but for me I just think it sets a bad precedent having a current players parent on. And yes I'm fully aware of who AJ Guyton is/was. Being on podcasts on even interacting with fans here almost always goes bad. At some point somebody is not going to like something said, and then you have issues. Think Marge being on her kids show or even when Kenyon used to post here when the twins were playing.
