WBB 2018-2019 SEASON

When it comes to the Big Ten tournament, you can throw the seeds away. Use Iowa instead -- as in, check if a team has beaten Iowa or not. Every team that has beaten Iowa is still alive:)

Man this UCLA coach is an idiot. Your team is up by 2 in overtime and you beg for a technical. If UCLA loses to Oregon and costs Iowa a 2 seed... I wish former hawkeye, assistant coach Shannon Perry would have stopped their coach from going berserk.

We weren't going to jump Oregon anyway. If we end up a #3 in Portland, it's good to see Oregon isn't invincible.

Tomorrow's game vs. Maryland is for the last 2 seed. All the other teams behind Iowa who might've taken it lost without significantly boosting their resumes. No one ahead of Iowa faltered (unless Stanford blows an early double-digit lead against Washington).

Haven't heard from Nonposters or Ant80 lately.
Wish Jennings and Cera well. Looks like Jennings' Butler team will just miss out the NCAA but you never know. I really wish Larson would have stayed and enjoyed the ride with the three other seniors in her class. She would have been a valuable contributor as a small forward with great outside shooting but also a very good inside game, a type of player that the current Iowa roster does not have. Though, South Dakota State should make the NCAA this year, and she will have another year playing.

Last I looked Jennings was leading Butler in scoring and minutes, so congrats to her. Both the SD schools are really good mid-majors (USD beat Drake in Des Moines), and it's pretty intense when they get together. I've seen them a couple of times via the ESPN+ Roku app.

Knowing both players situation, both Tagyn and Whitney had legitimate reasons for transferring. Both made the best decision for them and are enjoying their careers to date.

Unfortunately for Butler, Creighton pulled off a big upset over the weekend. The Bulldogs had blown them out in both regular season meetings. Former Hawkeye football player Mike Saunders daughter Rachel plays for the BlueJays. She is getting her feet wet, but is a tremendous athlete who really embraces playing defense. I think in the long run, Coach Bluder might wish she had offered her.

Haven't heard from you for quite a while either, until now:)
The job has required me to be all over the Midwest and down south for the last several months. I work with men's and women's coaches at several different levels and many different sports.

Believe it or not, checking the message boards is a lower priority. ; )

I have been browsing around other Big Ten WBB teams' forums if there is one. I saw some Rutgers and Maryland fans took a liking of this Iowa team, Minnesota and Nebraska fans as well. A good sign I guess?:)

Carly Mohns playing on the U right now for Green Bay. I knew she left, but I didn't know she transferred to GB. I wish she would have stayed, maybe she does too. She looked pretty healthy and good on a nice drive for a layup.

I believe Tagyn Larson is playing now on the U for S. Dakota State. I just heard the name Larson, so I assume it's her.

All this reminds me of how much fun it was to watch the PTL and GTL in the summer. Both Mohns and Jennings dazzled, as did MG of course. Hope that somehow a way can be found to get the summer leagues going again.

Last time I looked, she had started every game for them this year. Glad the knees are better. I would have liked to have seen her in our rotation.

Ohio St. really wasn't that good this year. Iowa beat them by 26 in Columbus. All of Mcguff's transfers didn't work out for him this year and it leaves him with just 5 returning players for next year. Of course those 3 freshman are good. I don't know what his recruiting looks like for next year, kind of wounder if he will be looking at transfers again.

Looks like Ohio St. 2019 recruiting class is ranked 3rd. They have 5 players coming in with 1 being a international player from Spain.

That's my point. They weren't very good and they still finished fifth in the conference. This, combined with underseeded opponents (Missouri / Drake), has me thinking a would-be Sunday game definitely isn't going to be easy.

Iowa will play whomever they have to play, but this isn't the first time they have been screwed on seeding. No conspiracy but something is wrong with the Selection Committee's system. Drake is the #10 seed and their RPI was 20 with a SOS of 64. Missouri is the #7 seed with RPI 30 and SOS of 32. I thought the
women's selection committee was still going by RPI. I think they make too many "adjustments" to the brackets for a variety of reasons, and this is what you get. Others have said that the men's selection process needs to be clearer and less random. The same is as true or more for the women's.

The Big Ten was hard to figure out this year, they basically had 4 teams and then the rest. Maryland who won the conference in my mind was probably the 3rd best team behind Iowa and Rutgers. Michigan State had a good team and good players, but they couldn't win on the road. Plus they had a stretch where Jena Allen couldn't stay out of foul trouble. I think the biggest problem is the officiating is so bad that some teams win games they shouldn't and some teams loose games they shouldn't.

Iowa should beat Mercer easily, I hope the girls come in ready to play hard. Mercer will be no push over for they have won like 17 straight games.

The BIG was top heavy with Iowa & Maryland being the best of the bunch. Then there was a about 8 teams bunched together fighting for positioning with Rutgers leading the way. I hope Iowa handles Mercer, but I expect it to be closer than most think, last time Iowa hosted in 2014 American gave a Sam Logic lead team a good game.

A real heart breaker for Drake today. Played Missouri even all game, had chances to win in regulation. Their best player Hittner fouled a 3 point shooter toward the end of OT, allowing what turned out to be the winning point, and then missed an open jump shot at the buzzer.

Our guard play today wouldn't have been good enough to beat either of those teams. Sunday's another day, though.

South Dakota St. won at Syracuse to advance to its first ever sweet sixteen. Tagyn Larson got herself open under the basket to score two crucial points with under a minute to play to make it a 3-possession lead, virtually sealing the game. Congrats!

Lady Clones upset at Hilton by Missouri State 69-60. No doubt their fans will be cheering us on in the Sweet Sixteen ;)

Iowa and Baylor the top 2 seeds in the region essentially playing road games Saturday vs NC State and South Carolina respectively.

I haven't watched it yet, but looks like MO St jumped off to an early lead, that might have put a damper on things.
