WBB 2018-2019 SEASON

I have never been to an NCAA women's tournament game. If Iowa was to host one, what day would it be and approximately how much would a ticket cost? TIA
The real problem for me is conflict with the men's tournament and the wrestling tournament. Last time the women played in Iowa City, the men were Thursday-Saturday (Temple-Villanova), and the women were Friday-Sunday. That was just luck as far as I know. The couch can look pretty good when all three are going on.

Gophers with an enormous choke job, up 7 under a minute left, turn the ball over tied with 6 seconds left and give up the game winning basket.

Davis should have passed the ball to Gustafson immediately in the last possession. 3.8 seconds is plenty of time for Gustafson to maneuver under the basket to make a layup.

Not calling it a choke here. They of course get their best player back just in time for our game and she goes off for 21. They just played better.

Would have liked a bigger rotation. Thought some looked gassed toward the end.

Back to zero minutes for Taiwo. Coach Jensen kind of threw Stewart under the bus in the post-game, noting a couple of her missed layups. No comments about Doyle's 5-17. Surprised me.

I haven’t seen any of the post game comments. Do you have a link to JJ’s comments? I did notice that when Megan went out with four fouls, Kathleen tried to put the game on her shoulders (it felt like she took ALL of the shots, even if she didn’t- and I don’t know that). It didn’t work out. Kathleen, for all of her positives, isn’t a great shooter. Honestly, they needed to work the ball inside more. Megan only had 13 shot attempts.

Also, the TWO offensive fouls called on Megan (w/o the ball) were bogus IMO. With the two fouls on defense, they ended up making a big impact given that Iowa had to take Megan out 7+ minutes left and didn’t put her back in until about 4:10. Once she went back in, she scores and 1.

I was worried about this game ever since this tweet yesterday. When a team starts to think they are the entertainment ("show), they are ripe for a loss.

Hawkeyes Take Show On The Road vs Indiana

Megan missed a couple of easy ones that she usually doesn’t and some FT’s, but no one should be thrown under the bus. Indiana shot pretty well in the 2nd half and that game winner was a tough shot with Megan contesting.

I heard Rob interviewing coach Jensen on the radio postgame. I'll look around, if I see anything in print that seems to be taken from that interview, I'll link it. The interview with coach Bluder was very short, as though they suddenly realized they were out of time.

I posted in another thread, Megan's 3rd foul where she threw her shoulder into the Indiana player and tossed the bounce pass to Hannah for an easy layup hurt. I thought it was the right call and took away the 2 points. Then Megan's 4th foul seemed a little suspect to me, but sometimes Megan in particular, needs to let them have the shot, and remain in the game. Iowa had open shots, Indiana had open shots, ours didn't go in and it seemed all of theirs did. Give Indiana credit.

After the Iowa women beat Maryland, the mend team lost to them. And when the women let the game against Indiana slip away, the men pulled one out. Conclusion, the men's team could use a Gustafson, and the women's would really like to have a Bohannon!

WBB team faces a tough out against Nebraska. I sure hope they can pull it off. Kirk says, "you generally, get the record you deserve". If so, I think a victory is the proper outcome. Nevertheless, it isn't going to just happen. They will need to show some senior leadership and team-wide mental toughness Monday night.

This week's ESPN Bracketology is out. They have Iowa remaining a #3 seed playing in Iowa City versus the #14 seed Patriot League winner followed by #6 seed Florida. Likely waiting for them in the Sweet Sixteen would be Oregon and Notre Dame in the Portland Region. A long way to go though still.

Missouri .. not Florida. An Iowa vs Missouri match up would be a lot of fun!

Purdue is beating Maryland by 9 late in the 3rd. We all know how that went last week, but there's a chance.

Now tied early in the 4th.

Sigh. It ended up close, but Maryland pulled it out the win. Don’t expect them to lose to Illinois at home, so they pretty much have the regular season championship sewn up. Damn!

Purdue was god awful in the 4th quarter. Only scored 4 points in the quarter until there were a few minutes left

Iowa's losses at Purdue and Indiana were the most painful this season. Hope they learn the lesson and it will help them in the NCAA.

This deserves more attention. MG out-scored (29-27) and out-rebounded (20-15) Nebraska's starting lineup! Has this ever been done in a major conference game where the starters actually played? I could envision maybe five seniors starting on Senior Day, say at Kentucky in MBB and then being pulled after five minutes or in a UConn game that was 122-18 or something. But, these were real starters and this was a real game. Megan played 38 minutes (tying her season high); the Husker starters played 117 minutes.

The Huskers had just lost 74-58 to rival Iowa, which, using just six players in its regular rotation, blasted NU in the second and fourth quarters. That seems counterintuitive — shouldn’t a team with five starters playing at least 32 minutes get tired? — but the No. 12 Hawkeyes have the Big Ten’s best player in center Megan Gustafson. And Nebraska’s impressive depth — nine players logged at least 18 minutes — also belies a frustrating inconsistency.
How much? Gustafson’s 29 points and 20 rebounds — that’s a normal night for her — outscored and outrebounded NU’s starting five, which finished with 27 and 15.

There are always "what ifs" in sports. If I had to pick which game Iowa would have won and which one would have been a loss, I would have picked to win at Indiana and lose at Nebraska, based on only beating Nebraska at CHA by 7 earlier. But, maybe the Indiana loss helped get them focused for Nebraska.

Iowa is poised to reenter top 10 in both polls next week. NC State and Kentucky both lost tonight. They are ranked just above Iowa in the AP poll, and NC State is just above Iowa in the coaches' poll. Some may argue that NC State might not drop because it lost to No. 3 Louisville. But, it's by 30 points so I think NC State will drop a little.

I saw that Asia Durr scored 47 points in that game. Not going to hurt her POTY chances.

I would have preferred that they lose to Drake and win both of these conference games! Better for everyone since Drake is back in the Top 25. (And I am a Drake alum)

According to the selection committee, Iowa is a 2 seed right now. They can stay that way by winning the Big Ten tournament this week, unless NC state upsets Louisville or Notre Dame to win the ACC tournament. Although, if Iowa slips to a 3 seed, they'll have a better chance to play in the Chicago regional. Right now they are in Greensboro with Baylor.

I'm a little surprised we're projected as a 2 seed after the loss at Indiana, but it's probably a good thing, unless being a 3 seed would get us into the Chicago regional. There's also a decent chance we hold the seed if we win our first two BTT games.

Of the teams behind us, NC State would need to get by Louisville to even get to their conference championship game, and Louisville beat them by 30 a couple days ago. Oregon State would need to knock off Stanford to get to their conference championship game, and that would potentially help us leap Stanford anyway. South Carolina is pretty far away, and would likely need to upset Mississippi State to win their conference.

Maryland probably has the best chance to jump us in the seeding by defeating us in the BTT championship game. And even if that happens, if it's close, there's probably a chance Iowa hangs onto the higher seed.

Many things fell right for Iowa to move up to the #2 seed. I think Iowa needs to win the BTT to hold on to that seed (6 loss team) but losing will drop to the #3 assuming they win Friday night. Iowa is all but guaranteed to host the first two rounds though which is huge for this team. Like Braydon, I don't see NCST jumping Iowa, with all their injuries it is amazing they are still winning games but Louisville/Notre Dame are the heavy ACC favorites.

OT, just noticed in an ESPN article that Pac 12, Mountain West, West Coast and WAC all have their women's basketball tournament set in Las Vegas, with the championship games on 10th, 13th, 12th and 16th, respectively. Is there a promotional discount offered by LV or something?

My guess is it's just a play to boost attendance. Vegas is a place a ton of people want to visit at least once. It's also a place big money boosters on the West Coast might frequent. Add you favorite school potentially playing a few games there, and it could convince more people to make the trip than another location might. If costs are somewhat equal in terms of hosting for the conference, why not go with the more marquee city?

Note: I hate this line of thinking as applied to the Big Ten Tournament and New York City, but I still understand why the conference would do it.
