WBB Transfer Portal Targets 2025-2026

Don’t need that drama on the team. Players like her can be a cancer.
Agree as I think CM is toxic and just an all-around dip****, but JMO.

Being an instant starter as a freshman is challenging.

Being an instant starter as a pg doubles the pressure.
I think JJ absolutely needs to bring in a portal pg, otherwise you're expecting Guyton to suddenly become an effective pg, which seems wishful thinking right now.
JJ doesn't have the luxury of waiting to see if AG develops over the summer.
I really expect that Deal will handle that job. Look, I'm not saying that she'll be CC22, But she has much the same skill set, and stood out against better comp then CC played against in high school. Not saying she's going to lead the nation in scoring at 27 a game, and be first team AA, but literally nothing would surprise me. The girl has that pedigree. Jan already has a road map on how to handle that level of talent. For all that CC22 brought to the table she was also a bit of a loose cannon early on, and took some molding. From what I've seen of Deal, she's much more centered, and less likely to need all the "counciling" it took to teach Clark how to deal with how to play with others around her that didn't see the game at her level. I'd agree that Guyton is not ready to be the point guard. I'd see her more off the ball as a scorer with less pressure on her to run the offense. Frankly I'd like to see more of just what last years Miss Iowa basketball has up her sleeve. In the few minutes we've seen Levin play, she seems to be an excellent passer and decent athlete. Regardless, Jan will do what she thinks best, ad we'll all get to arm chair QB her decisions after the fact with the benefit of hindsight.

Jan will try to add 2 more pieces out of the portal where we "don't have a lot of depth."

She says:
"My model will always be to try to develop but like we're graduating Syd at forward and we don't have a lot of depth at the one, right."

"I love our freshmen and I love the incomers and if we can just get a couple portal pieces I think could' be really fun."

She specifically targets a #1 (PG) and the other position inferred is Syd's position for graduating.

Now whether they find a replacement starter or a backup (with potential to start) that's another question and it could also depend on how the bidding war pans out if we get one or both.

Now here's what I expect on game day #1:
1) Deal fully capable to be PG if no portal PG is picked up.
2) Guyton fully capable to be PG if no portal PG is picked up.
3) Stremlow fully capable to be PG if no portal PG is picked up.
4) Portal PG fully capable to be PG if they can get one.

Now here's where the plan deviates. If Jan gets a PG out of the portal and depending on that new player's skills, I will change the skills focus I develop for either Deal, Guyton and Stremlow to somewhere else. This somewhere else also depends on a 2nd portal pickup (most likely a stretch 3/4) and their strengths and weaknesses.

Because you're working from the portal, you may not get your #1 PG or your #2 PG. You may end up with your #3 PG from the portal. All 3 of these portal PGs have their own set of strengths and weaknesses. Depending on the strengths they exhibit better than Deal, Guyton and Stremlow, I will peel one of these 3 current '25 players off of PG to concentrate on another position.

It looks like Teagan is coming back so that's good news. I really hope her off-season development calms her down a bit so she can work her magic on the court like she has in game warmups.

You have a lot more confidence in Guyton than I do. Out of control all the time....

All the time?? lol. Cut her some slack dude...She's a freshman and due to her injury wasn't able to practice or get into playing shape until later in the season. I remember when Monica was a freshman and she couldn't even catch a post feed. So if she is "out of control all the time" next year than I might agree but geez the basketball scouts on these message boards need to cool their jets for a minute.

I think Guyton could be a really good 2 in a role similar to what Gabbie Marshall played. We know she's a really good three-point shooter when she has time to set and shoot. She's also a good perimeter defender and the coaches trusted her enough to guard Juju at times during the USC game. Plus I think she'll be better penetrating defenses and assisting with ball-handling than Gabbie was.

That said, I'm skeptical she'll ever play starter minutes at PG at Iowa. The torn ACL and missed off-season certainly put her at a disadvantage, but one thing that sticks out is I don't think we really saw her decision making improve much during the season. She was still dribbling into trouble too often and taking too many ill-advised shots at the end of the year.

Assists and turnovers aren't a be all, end all, but I think they help illustrate the issue. Here are assist and turnover numbers from recent Iowa guards during their freshman seasons:

Guyton: 1.1 apg---1.7 topg

Clark: 7.1 apg---4.8 topg
Marshall: 1.2 apg---0.6 topg
Martin: 0.8 apg---0.7 topg (redshirt freshman season)
Affolter: 0.4 apg---0.6 topg (limited playing time)
McCabe: 0.4 apg---0.3 topg (limited playing time)
Sevillian: 2.4 apg---2.5 topg (redshirt freshman season)
Taiwo: 0.6 apg---0.4 topg (limited playing time)
Makenzie Meyer: 1.9 apg---1.8 topg
Doyle: 4.4 apg---2.4 topg

Guyton had significantly more turnovers than assists. That's not true of most of Iowa's recent guards.

Didn't see this one coming...

You must be talking about @cmhawks99......& I completely agree!

Call him out all you want, because he's too chickensh!t to respond......plus cucks prefer to stay quiet in their dark corner.
Sometimes people don't respond because they ignored your posts because people freely choosing certain buzz words primarily used by very specific contemporary social/political circles generally don't have much in the way of meaningful contributions to the discourse. Hint hint don't waste your time responding to this one

It's as I was always told " Be careful of what you wish for".
Guard rails are coming... eventually? Well, at the latest, when the next iteration of the NCAA or enforcement body is realized. I hope it's one of those things that's the hot topic behind closed doors, and so it will materialize quickly once the wheels start. The universities are most incentivized to come together on this vs not. Any perceived competitive advantages are outweighed by establishing a transparent market and decreasing the money being siphoned to anyone other than the athlete and the universities. I would think after the first year of revenue sharing, progress should start moving along again, right? Does it have to wait until the next round of conference realignment?

I haven't read/heard anything worthwhile on that topic in a bit, to be fair.

What the f^ck are you even saying........is that english?!

Personally I'm happy Latson gets this opportunity to transfer and cash in on her talent. She is one of the best players in college, but I don't think she's one of the sport's most marketable stars. She probably isn't getting a ton of business-NIL deals like some players do. WNBA salaries also aren't very good for rookies.

Just by transferring, she will probably get several WNBA rookie seasons worth of added income for her basketball talent.
