WBB Transfer Portal Targets 2025-2026

I really hate what this era is becoming. Open free agency will be the end for all college athletics.
I actually disagree with this. It is certainly the end of an era and damned shame for most of us old farts, but I think it will ignite an era of major stardom for collegiate athletes and renewed excitement for power five fanbases who have not been traditional blue bloods. Anything can happen now.

I'm fine with players getting paid, but they should be under contract.
And I'm happy for a team winning, but if it's just mercs doing the winning, I find it pretty hollow.

The main reason I've gravitated to watching the women play over the men's game, is that money hasn't completely taken over.
Coaching up a player for three years only to have that player move sideways for a bag is a slap to the game with long term repercussions.
Hopefully this particular era of team hopping is over soon, and some rules are put in place, including a salary cap, or it just becomes quickly uninteresting. If a player wants to sign a 2-year contract as an incoming freshman, the team will know that player will be a free agent going into her junior year, or that they can cut the player, and they can plan accordingly. (Etc.) Right now, though, things aren't really tenable.

I agree. The school provides the opportunity and venue to advance both their educational and athletic careers. Short of abuse, dismissed , or a coaching change a player should be on contract for 2 to 3 years. He can then choose portal or Pros. Other wise schools are investing with no obligations by the player

Fully agree and it is absurd on many levels IMO.

Some of you need to chill out defending Guyton. Maybe she'll become a good PG, but she's not there yet.
I know my eyes are bad but give me a break. You give her the ball and that’s last you’ll
see it. Drives towards the basket and then just flings it up hoping to get a foul. She’s too short to do this and is a turnover machine. Hopefully she will learn to slow down and play TEAM ball!🏀

Over-penetration by PGs should be easily coachable. And increased upper body strength will help her out as well. Guyton has a decent shot and she is a good defender. I'm hoping for big improvement over the offseason.

“The best thing about freshmen is that they become sophomores.” I’ve seen it attributed to both Al McGuire and former Iowa men’s BBall coach Lute Olsen. No matter who said it, I believe that next year, our five current freshies have the opportunity to step up their game and have major impact. Which one will it be? I think Guyton could realize that she has the skillset to succeed at the college level without stranding herself under the basket.

From the SB Nation list:

Latson is pretty clearly the top player in the portal. She would help Iowa a ton, but most big programs will be after her. I doubt Iowa has much of a shot.

To me, Rose seems like a Molly Davis type option. Dominant at lower levels. 1 year of eligibility left (no Covid year like Davis). Assuming her film matches her numbers, she'd probably be my top target if I were Iowa. Bring in some experience and scoring, and if Deal or Guyton really impress at PG, you can move her to a different role to finish the year. She wouldn't impact the decisions of the 2026 class.

Raviv is also interesting, though she has 3 years of eligibility so there might be more competition for her.

For the record, haven't seen any of these two play. However, there is an indicator I use to help me quickly eyeball a player to see if I'd look further into them. I first use the GmSr column and sort it into descending order so I can see who they played their best games against and go to the bottom to see their worst games.

If you look at Rose, she has several good games against good, pretty good and elite competition. I try to disregard Mid-major games.

In 23-24 season she had good games against Georgia, Virginia, Tennessee, Wake Forest, In truth, she really didn't have one bad game that season.
In 24-25 season she had pretty good games against South Carolina and Duke before getting hurt.

Would go after Rose in a heartbeat with what we have on the board probably as the less expensive rental if we can't get an overly expensive PG.

You may need to scroll the bar all the way to the right to see the GmSr (last) column.

On Raviv, think we have to be pretty desperate situation to take her.

If you look at her GmSr she only has one P6 conference game against Seton Hall and it's in the negative at the end of the season during the WBIT. Think Princeton and Vermont are the best teams she played against and she did well. I'm afraid she might be eaten alive in the B1G. It looks like only games against mid-majors so I can't really judge her as well as I can Rose who has played against P5 teams. So only a frosh, but man I'd think she be backup material this season.
EDIT: I did see a P5 in Miami that she did very well. Although Miami ended up 16th in the ACC.

That's my 2 cents. Maybe you have a better way to eval them quickly without knowing much about them.

All we need is a combo forward who can shoot.

You'd have to believe kennise would of came in when we couldn't break the press this year. Her ball handling and speed is next level.

Get a combo forward. That can start at the 3 or 4 depending on hannah. I honestly don't think hannah develops a shot in 1 offseason. Hope she proves me wrong

When Syd first started playing, she dribbled too much and drove into bad spots often. They coached that out of her. It can happen with Guytan.

I didn't wish for any of this.

Coaches may have slowed those bad traits but they sure never coached it out of her. She was still dribbling too much. slow to pass inbounds, and still driving into bad spots even in her last game. It was tough to watch at times. She could rebound and play some good defense though. Syd is a really good person but a role playing basketball player.

Yeah, I have to agree, and I loved Syd's floor game, but with the ball she made some really questionable decisions/turnovers. But JMO.

Re: Raviv she wasn't great against Seton Hall or Harvard (a tourney team) but was very good against Princeton (another tourney team) and had a good game against Miami.

I haven't seen her play, but overall there seems to be some buzz around her. Plus she was a freshman, so like Guyton we should expect some growth.

To me Rose is a better fit based on where the roster is.

Thoughts on Wooolston, Ziegler, Sofilkaanich and Jacobs? The last 3 have 6'2" size and have one or 2 years eligibility so as not to complicate recruiting?
I had a longer post typed out, then most of it got deleted, so I'll quickly summarize.

Ziegler- will be one of the more desirable portal options. She looks like a 4 to me, so it would be hard to get her, Stuelke, and Heiden all starter minutes. I don't think it makes sense to commit the resources Iowa would need to get her since a 4 isn't Iowa's biggest need.

Jacobs- interesting in that she could maybe play some limited minutes at the 3 along with backup up Stuelke at the 4. Had some of her worst games of the season against Fresno's best opposition (USC, UCLA, and UNLV) so that's a little concerning. She's from Australia so I don't believe she can get NIL.

Woolston- great shooter. Made more sense before Feuerbach decided to come back. I'd worry bringing her in would cause someone else to transfer. It could also impact Lewis or Kussow's decision since she has 3 years left.

Sofikaanich- Doesn't really shoot the 3. Doesn't shoot particularly well from 2. She seems redundant with Stuelke and Heiden already on roster.

From her HS rankings standpoint, she was up there in 4-5 star territory.

Jada rated #21 in Class of 2023 on ESPN.

Jada Williams

Jada rated #14 in Class of 2023 on ProspectNation.

Has many NIL deals already.

5-star 2023 point guard Jada Williams flips from UCLA to Arizona women's basketball

However from her stats, needs some work. Maybe they played her wrong. That coach in AZ is a A1 dipshit. So maybe a diamond in the rough for us? Was 1st a UCLA commit so there's that.

EDIT:
Ah-ha! Thinking this is the smoking gun on her. Her defense is pretty good!
Her DRtg is 89.7. Kylie got better on defense every year and is at 93.2 this year. Jada's defense rates better than Kylie.
Now it makes sense why Jan wants her. Looks like another potential lock-down defender as well!

Yeah, we cannot add another player to the roster that can't get their own shot.

Haven't watched tape yet but 5-star means she is an athlete and surely Iowa's system will help. Is the idea that Iowa again needs a known quantity at PG this season? If so I'm all for it.

  • Deal - Could be Iowa's go-to star but will she be primary ball handler/ play more off ball?
  • Guyton - Showed flashes early this season, had unsurprising rookie inconsistencies, also played off ball a bunch.
  • Johnson - Injured this year, unknown quantity.

A top 25 recruit coming out of high school. Iowa is working on her.

▪️Gianna Kneepkens - out of Utah
▫️6’0 guard
▫️19.3 PPG | 5.0 RPG | 3.0 APG | 44.8% 3PT
▫️1 year of eligibility remaining
▫️2024-25 All-Big 12 First Team

She plays pretty good defense as well.
Her offensive and defensive ratings tell me she going to get a hefty bag.
