We all knew Penn State was a different team at home

Heaven, Iowa
In PSU's last 4 home games they are 3-1:

* They beat Indiana by 3, 61-58

* They lost to Purdue by 7, 74-67

* They beat Rutgers by 17, 66-49

* They beat Iowa by 4, 90-86, in 2OT

We all knew (or should have known) that PSU plays better at home so we should not be outraged that the game was close and went to 2 OTs.

Nevertheless, the melt down after a loss, once again, has begun.

There are at least 3 NIT threads.

There are a couple "fire Fran" threads. Indiana and Rutgers lost at PSU. Should their coaches be fired, too? Or just Iowa's?

Purdue should have blown Penn State out! Should Painter be fired, too?

We all knew coming into this season that this team was going to be average. We were picked either 9th or 10th in the B1G. We should not be surprised that we lost a B1G road game.

Iowa fans, man. If you are going to be a fan of a sport, you should expect that there's a chance your team might lose, especially on the road. If you cannot accept that, you should channel your outrage elsewhere and perhaps take up a new hobby, like knitting.

Bud, did you watch the game? Iowa, for the most part, played uninspired. They looked like they didn't expect to win the game. Add to that the crazy sub patterns that make no sense(JT disappearing, JBo playing regardless), and the overall softness of the team, things are not looking good for Iowa.

I’ve been calling this team the softest I’ve ever seen under Fran (if that’s possible) since November.

Look up my posts.

They are terrible this loss is on us, period. Polished a turd with that

My opinion hasn’t changed since last season and wouldn’t be any different had Iowa won.

You’re seriously going to suggest you don’t “support Fran”????

sorry, “defend Fran”???

The thing is though, the toughest on the team-JT, Perkins, Ulis to a smaller extent-don't get to see the floor in crunch time. Instead we get JBo and his huge ego chucking impossible 3s at the buzzer.

I thought it was clear that Fran was rotating defense for offense late in the game; he would take JBo out and put Tony in, and vice versa

And if you are going to talk about poor shooting, you should look at the entire team, not just JBo.

But, of course, you are only outraged about JBo.

0-4 Joe
0-7 Ulis
0-7 JBo

2-4 Tony

Sorry but Penn St is not good and didn’t play well today either. They did however out coach Iowa. Yes, I know Iowa didn’t shoot well and Fran can’t control that. He does control however how minutes are dispersed and designed plays at end of games.

Look, we all know that you think of yourself as the Iowa basketball guru, but you're wrong here.

JBo sucked tonight. Ulis at least got to the free throw line. However, I'd STILL like to see JT in for either of those two. Or how about Sandfort? At least he can get a shot off over a guy, and his d can't be worse.

And I think my comment about "uninspired" covers the entire team. Reading comprehension, jabroni.

Agree with all this but our upcoming schedule is routh so I ask your current thoughts?

After tonight's loss, we are probably a projected 9 or 10 seed.

This is how I look at this year's team:

Preseason:

* We knew (or should have known) we were going to be an average team. We lost Luka, Nunge, Weezy, and CJ and added just Filip, Payton and Mulvey

* Many publications predicted us 9th or 10th in the B1G.

* The preseason ESPN Bracketology had us as a NCAA Tournament bubble team, on the outside looking in.

Now:

* The latest Bracketologists had us as a 7 or 8 seed.

* As I said above, after tonight's loss, we are probably a projected 9 or 10 seed.

* Of our 14 wins, 10 are from one of the weakest nonconference schedules in the country. So, that's gonna factor in.

* Historically, all B1G road games are tough. We know that (or should know that). Nobody wants to hear this but Maryland, Nebraska and Michigan will all be tough road games. Michigan will be fighting for an NCAA bid. Nebraska is not rolling over for anyone at home. Illinois, and Ohio State won't be easy road games, either.

I think for our NCAA Tournament hopes we might need to go 5-0 in our remaining home games. I think we will need that quality home win over Michigan State. What do you think @TheTruthTheWholeTruth ?

The 5 road games that are left:

--at #16 OSU
--at Maryland
--at Nebraska
--at Michigan
--at #18 Illinois

The 5 Home games left:

--Minny
--Nebraska
--Michigan
--#13 Michigan State
--Northwestern

Teams are not selected on Jan 31.

We just had our 1st bad loss of the year.

The NCAA Tournament bubble is weak. @TheTruthTheWholeTruth can tell you that.

There's 10 games left in the regular season; our season did not end tonight.
I really like your positive spin on Iowa's remaining season, but there's little hope that Iowa is going to "turn things around". Teams abuse us because we play small in the middle and Fran has played Josh Ogundele with mixed results and won't play Riley Mulvey at all. I applaud Rebraca for the work he's putting in, but the lack of rebounding is killing this team and I just don't see that improving any time soon.
Fran is the coach and it appears his staff has no say is game decisions, you can say they are just as useless on the bench as JBO is on the court.
Joe Toussaint, I know isn't exactly a gifted scorer, but he needs to be on the floor for more minutes then JBO for his defense if nothing else.
Connor had a out of body experience tonight but is was 20 games too late. I hope his injury isn't too severe but he too is playing more minutes then Payton Sanfort needs to be.
Kris Murray should be starting instead of Rebraca but that's neither here or there if he gets starter minutes.
@PHawkKenyon has indicated that Keengan is gone after this season and there's a really good chance that Kris is outa here also. If you had son's playing for this crap show would you have any belief that things would get better if they stayed another year? Doesn't bode well for next season either.
Fran had the best player in the nation last year and a 2nd round NBA drafted player in Joe Wieskamp along with a shooting guard that was wanted by none other then Kentucky and a 7 ft player that with another year of eligibly left and is going great things at Xavier and Fran still screwed the pooch and did nothing with that team that he hadn't done in the previous 10 years which is nothing special.
All I'm saying is you have more faith in this team then I do because, In the 12 years that Fran has been here, other then the 2 years they played in the NIT tournament, Fran has been, well uninspiring to say the least....but you are a true fan that despite all the negativity surrounding this team you won't give up. I applaud you sir!

Yes win out at home most likely needed.

I think we can still get to 10 wins in the regular season but we lost our margin for error at Rutgers and tonight.

Nebraska 2x
Minnesota
@ Maryland
Michigan @ Home
Northwestern @ Home.

Sorry, but I don't think of myself as a guru, so you are wrong there.

I think it's pretty obviously that not one poster on here would be considered a basketball guru.

And I fully understood your "Iowa, for the most part, played uninspired" comment. And you were wrong on that observation, too.

Seriously how long has it been since we saw a legitimate scoring PG that can break down a defense and create a shot ? I’ll wait……

Would you call their shooting "uninspiring?"

My question to Fran is why not foul up 3 with 15 seconds to go? Why is the media not taking Fran to task for his idiotic line ups? Why no twins, Perkins, Ulis, and Joe T to end the games? They are the most athletic five you can put on the floor and yet we have to see a 6th year player that can’t create his own shot and is a defensive liability game after game after game. His time was Year one through five, not Year six. He he is taking away from the guards and Peyton Sandafort getting experience this year.

I’ll root for the players but I’m over Fran and his 12 years of inconsistent coaching and rotations. You hope for the W but expect the L. Would love to see John Beilein as Iowa’s coach or Bruce Pearl. Tired of terrible defense and bad rebounding.
